  • Etta has given me so much entertainment in my lifetime i want to sing, laugh, cry, dance, have sex and go wow all at the same time, thank.you for posting

  • I detest Guns & Wankers & the whole glam metal Motley shitfest. I believe Axl Rose to be a pointless, talentless & flaccid little penis. It is a really sad day for bad boy glam rockers when one considers that Etta James has cranked more smack & tossed off more booze than Rose could even dream of & she could also sing with stunningly beautiful passion, completely unlike Rosey, who can't. Ms James has done an amazing job of polishing this particular turd of his. Shame she's gone & he's still here.

  • @arachnoblaster you cant say axl rose is not talented.this is one thing you cannot say.okay i am gnr fan and axl is an asshole but he is talented.and its hard to compare axl and etta because their versions are different.and theyre both amazing.

  • @SidChildOMine Well, I can. Although, it's only my opinion - not necessarily the truth & I'll concede that it's a highly subjective opinion but one based on a fair degree of knowledge of that which is filler & that which is killer. Axl Rose is not the best singer in the world. He's probably not even the best singer in Guns & Roses! They came in to our pub once... I was quite surprised at how short they were...

  • Like it a bit better than the GNR version. Axl's voice is awful.

  • YOU'RE ALL WRONG! GNR WAS A "BOY BAND". AXEL AND SLASH WERE PRIVATE SCHOOL RICH KIDS THAT MARKETED THEMSELVES AS "BAD BOYS FROM THE STREET". OVER COMMERCIALIZED AND MASS MARKETED SHIT IS WHAT THEY GAVE US.

  • Saving some of her best till last....bless you Etta. RIP xx

  • this is awesome!

  • Incredibly powerful to the end...somehoe rip doesnt say enough for spritis like Ms, Etta will never stop soaring ...she lives !

  • I was looking up the lyrics, came up "Welcome To The Jungle Etta James" and thought to myself "The woman who sings At Last?!"

  • xtina and etta are both fighters! =D

  • JUST BRILLANT

  • wow this was unexpected. :)

  • EROTIC :P...........

  • Now, even though I've been one of the people commenting on Guns N' Roses on here, I have to say that this woman did a fantastic job with this song. Changed the style, but did it justice.

It really is a shame that the world lost her.

  • Let's gooooooo sweety ! Rest in peace wonderful queen <3

This song is very lively !

  • She is so....wondeful

  • My all time favorite special guest touring with the Grateful Dead was this soulful woman who i adore! Icon of music in my opinion!

  • Only my opinion: this is a damn good version, and I honestly would expect nothing less from this legend. She probably could've sang my shopping list!

  • Awesome! Etta James...bad 2 the bone!

    Horns Up!

    \m/ ( > J < ) \m/

I love GN´R, pure hard rock! but Etta is the MOTHER of Rock And Roll attitude!

  • As a massive GNR fan back in the day when they were a band and not a solo project, this is a great tribute. A cover or remix can often make you appreciate how good a song really is such as Johnny Cash's NIN cover of Hurt. You moaners/haters need to get a grips with covers and do your rock history. Rock comes from RnB just ask Steven Tyler (who GNR covered). This is of course not modern RnB which should be banned for blasphemy to taste. RIP Etta and thank you for the music

  • Nice<33333333

  • Like it :)

  • This is cool!

  • As a total GNR purist, I have to say, this version is spectacular. And this isn't just some post-mortem props...this is just plain, GREAT.

  • Very good, but gets better with Axl singing

  • Too bad she didn't call Slash to do a blues album with.

  • @TheGuns1985 Nah she called a real blues guitarist.

  • Awesome cover

  • What a voice !! RIP

  • 'Fascinating to hear a woman (especially stature of the late, great Etta) do this song. I am sure G&R were chuffed about this!

  • DaChamP4984 get a better computer or ISP because there is no skip, just great music by a great lady.

  • what a shame u cant even listen to a ledg. and all they do is skip and skip why put this on aouto stream or buffer im sick of this shit

  • Guns N' Roses moved the world and changed musical perceptions in their days, and I'm a die-hard fan and hate when someone's covering their songs...

Except this one... Etta. She kind of has the spirit, she made it her own, gave her own seal to this song and truly can stand side-by-side to the original.

    Much love !

  • Fuckin awesome from a great singer! RIP Etta!

  • Anyway................ getting back to ETTA JAMES! Great lady, large loss! RIP Ma'am! This should be an interesting CD to purchase.

  • I'm sorry but I never knew that she could turn the heaviest metal song into a very powerful soul song...amazing. I love both of these songs now

  • Just a little info for all the haters. This album was just released in Nov. 2011, she knew it was her last. She was 72 years old and battling leukemia. I would love to have only half of her fortitude. She fought battles in her lifetime to be able to perform her music that 90% of the people alive today could never even begin to understand. Most of the dislikers on this page will never accomplish anything near what she did.

  • @bohandd well people do have the right to their opinions. It's dumb to just say that anyone who dislikes it, needs to be on the same level of achievement(s) in music as the performer they're critiquing. No shit they're nowhere near her status in the music wolrd. So no one can critique now, even professional critics? How about in sports and just about everything else in life?

  • Of course they have a right to their opinions I never said they didn't.

  • @bohandd well you presented a condition against their opinions by saying that they were nowhere near the level of achievement as Etta James was....therefore, trying to invalidate their opinions of her.

  • @098firechicken Lol, I thought I was just stating a fact in an attempt to put their trolling (and it was mostly directed at the trolls) into perspective and make them think a little bit. Sorry you took it so personally, I guess I must have hit a nerve, I take it you didn't care for her rendition..

  • @bohandd so you're inability to maintain an argument due to your lack of intelligence would deem that the other person is taking it personally? Welcome to that age old exercise called debating, moron. Maybe you shouldn't have dropped out of high school.

  • @098firechicken So.. you really didn't like her version of the song?

  • @bohandd i thought her version of the song was SPECTACULAR. i love raspy jazzy/bluesy female voices. GNR is no doubt, honored by her version. she's a legend. RIP Etta James.

  • @bohandd Say that!....you are telling it like it is!

  • @bohandd Well said..and thank you. Etta James...rest in peace my sweet soul sister. I love you.

  • Great cover.... Blues artist covering a blues-based rock band.....

  • Anybody that doesn't like this needs to learn how to appreciate music.

  • @gaddallmighty You are so correct. Etta had the best voice ever. I love this!!!

  • etta james rest in peace and may your music live forever.

    much love

    Danny

  • R.I.P

  • @GunsRoses make i come here!

  • This is great! Was directed here by G n' R post about her passing and am surprised to say I think it is a very intreresting cover. Not a blues fan, but she really does a nice job finding those roots in this. RIP Etta

  • @cubbyblues I wrote a paper on G n R, and you are correct. Saul Hudson aka Slash is quoted that he is a Blues guitarist.

  • game recognizing game!

  • coooooool!

  • shhiiiiitty cover

  • Nice. Why do fans insist on taking remakes of their idols' songs personally. It's a compliment to GNR that a great jazz singer like Etta James redid their song. I'm sure GNR is pleased.

I'm not a jazz fan or an Etta fan, but I know she was great and that this has its place. Grow up a little or stop sharing your negative opinions so unintelligently.

  • @g8postgrrl this remake is freakin' awesome.....her voice is SPECTACULAR.

  • I love this version... this is great.. RIP Etta...

  • Jeeezus, you guys kill me. The term "hair metal" wasn't even around when GNR formed, or even when Appetite was released. It wasn't until the late 80's/early '90s, when the super horrible bands like Trixter, Enuff Z'nuff, etc. came along offering very little musical substance that the term was coined. Unfortunately dumb-asses the world over lump all the 80's bands, sometimes unfairly, into that category. I've even read where people said that Slayer was a hair metal band.

  • Continued: It's stupid as fuck, but I guess I'd rather be hair metal than little-girl-pants-wearing, cut yourself "metal".

  • @jambo383 WRONG. So are you trying to say that POISON was not a hair-metal/glam-band? Poison was formed in '83. GNR formed in '85. This disproves your "late 80's/early '90s" theory. What do you think HOLLYWOOD ROSE & L.A. GUNS were? Where do you think GNR came from? watch?v=I1nzLuXctC4 Look at the hair. As the Grunge scene in Seattle started taking over, hair-bands started to stop wearing makeup & female lingerie, that's all...even Motley Crue ('81) & Twisted Sister ('72/'76).

  • @098firechicken If you read the post... Again, the term hair metal wasn't being used in '87. That's not a theory. I said that the term was assigned to bands & they were lumped into that category. That's why I added that I've heard Slayer referred to as hair-metal. Now for my opinion: To me, a hair metal band is one that focused more on image than musical substance. GNR's sound was more gutteral and less poppy/bubblegum. This is a stupid argument anyway. It's why I hate labels.

  • @jambo383 the term was coined later to describe the Hollywood scene of glam-metal-hair bands of which GNR and Motley Crue were certainly a part of. GNR & Motley Crue just happened to be the much more successful hair-bands. Notice how you try to avoid Motley Crue, because you like their music but don't want to admit that they wear women's makeup & lingerie just like Poison, etc...and looked gayer than Boy George of Culture Club.

  • @098firechicken OK, now we're getting somewhere. All I said, again, is that the term, "hair metal", didn't exist back then. It was a derogatory term invented to describe bands' focus on image rather than music. Unfortunately, a lot of bands in the GLAM movement, and other genres as well, got lumped into that category. This comes from Sam Dunn, anthropologist who has studied hard rock/metal extensively. .

  • @jambo383 Glam and Hair bands are synonymous. Are you trying to tell me that Motley Crue wasn't trying to focus on image with all of that makeup, big girly hair, women's tights, lingerie, etc? Image was all apart of the LA scene back then.

  • @098firechicken Oh... BTW, I never mentioned Motley Crue. Period. Nor did I "try to avoid". To draw the conclusion that it is because I like them and don't want to admit whatever nonsense you stated is like me saying that you must hide an affinity for anal sex since you mentioned Boy George but didn't include details of his lifestyle. Not much a stickler for facts and rationale, huh?

  • @jambo383 you don't want to mention Motley Crue because they ruin your theory that Hair-Band was a derogatory term used to describe bands that "focus(ed) on image rather than music". Motley Crue was a perfect example of a Hair-Band that did make IMAGE their focus to go along with their HS power chord music. Look at their first album, it sounded like crap but people flocked to it due to the girlie makeup b/c that was in back then. Then they 3x the amount of lipstick for their 2nd LP.

  • @jambo383

That Sir is incorrect. MOtley CRUE was the first band that got signed to a record deal as being a straight UP HAIR METAL band....so the term was used way b4 1987! Not to mentioned bands like Quiet Riot years b4 Motley even existed

  • @265308 "Hair metal is a derogatory, derisive umbrella term encompassing the whole 1980s glam metal scene; use of the term started in the early 1990s, as grunge took over the popularity at the expense of 1980s metal."- Sam Dunn (anthropologist/ rock/metal expert). Read my posts again. If you still have the same argument, there's no hope. Either way, I'm done. Have a good day.

  • @jambo383

That not true Hair Metal term was around ever since Quiet RIOT when they had Randy RHoads n Rudy Sarzo on bass...b4 Ozzy stole em that was way in the early 80s.

Axl had hair spray n was all glammed out in welcome to jungle vid...that not Glam I dunno waht it....

  • @jambo383 the main problem here is that you think the term Hair-Band is derogatory yet you don't think the same about the term Glam-Band. Man, they're the same thing. I just think it's a neutral term that's coined to describe the Glam/Hair Heavy Metal scene originating out of LA during that time. Def Leppard doesn't like being labeled such, which makes sense b/c they don't look anything like nor from this scene. But GNR certainly was from this LA lipstick & lingerie hair metal scene.

  • @098firechicken Did you just call Guns N' Roses a hair metal band? They were from LA, but that doesn't mean they were glam metal. They were one of the greatest hard rock bands. Far above the ranks of Poison and Motley Crue.

  • @PanderflyLUV true

  • @PanderflyLUV you're ignorant then. What did you think Hollywood Rose and LA Guns were? watch?v=b8qI-GyAfIw Even the names perfectly describes the Glam/Hair Metal movement that emerged from there.

  • @098firechicken No. GNR were NOT a hair metal band. Yes, ther were from the AREA and the name sounds like it. But that's like looking at a black man named Tyrone and automatically assuming he's a thug.

If you listen to their music, then listen to Poison or whatever, you will notice a dramatic difference. Poison is glam. GNR is rock.

So stop trying to sound superior by calling me ignorant and actually listen to the music before making stupid remarks.

  • @PanderflyLUV you don't know WTF your'e talking about. Glam/Hair Metal band is the term used to describe the movement coming out of LA during the 80's where rock bands started wearing full makeup, big hair, etc...of which Hollywood Rose & LA Guns were apart of. You're a stupid fuck who can't seem to understand that GNR was made up of these 2 bands, which were Glam/Hair bands.

  • @098firechicken They also have a completely different sound. And did you seriously just call me a "stupid fuck?" Look, I'm done with this. If you are going to be a stupid troll, so be it. I don't want to associate with the likes of you any more. Have a nice day, asshole.

  • @PanderflyLUV STFU you little bitch. How they sound is subjective. You still can't answer where GNR came from can you dumbfuck? Hollywood Rose + LA Guns = GNR you stupid ass. Hollywood Rose & LA Guns are hair/glam bands disphit.

  • @PanderflyLUV That's like saying Minor Threat isn't punk because they don't sound like the Ramones. GnR was hair metal, maybe the quintessential hair metal band. Did they sound exactly like Poison or Warrant? No, but they certainly toured with all those bands and were very much willing to be grouped in with them.

  • @GotNextVideo

Guns was not hair metal simply because that wasn't their image or their music. You can lump them in if you like (many do), but you'd be ignorant to do say. GnR was blues-based rock with a bit of punk. They NEVER considered their stuff and Poison or Bon Jovi (for example) the same thing...mostly because they weren't. Dio started in doo-wop; that doesn't make Black Sabbath doo wop. Seems Panderfly was the only one here who knew his sh*t.

  • @JohnnyKrypton Thank you. :)

  • Would have been great to hear her sing this with Guns

  • know who the fuck your ass here you can kick it as easy as rape you ax

  • Nice version! :)

  • both versions are great :)

  • @RealMusic1977 Your opinion sucks.

  • @orsenn Can't say much for yours either.

  • @RealMusic1977 Ok, you showed that you have internet connection, now GTFO

  • she died yesterday assholes!! a little respect!!

  • lol the official Guns n Roses FB page used this video on their page nice

  • love forever...

  • Very cool cover

  • If you haven't played out in front of people, well you have not lived.

  • Slaughter was a rock n' roll band. Guns n' Roses was a super charged rock n' roll band. Guns had punk/metal rock/blues influences.... Motley Crue? Metal-Rock N' Roll.... Well Poison was a hair band, and yeah I still thought they were cool, and this is coming from someone who likes Slayer/Iron Maiden/Mayhem/DIO/Megadeth/Metallica/Anthrax/ etc....

  • First off, this is a real cool version, and its so original in its version, it stand by itself. Now Guns N' Roses was never a hair band, and never ever followed that philosophy. A hair band was poison, no doubt about that. Cinderella was a rock n' roll band.

  • @TheAvailable43 bullshit. Hair-band just meant that they usually came out of the Hollywood heavy metal scene with big hair, makeup & girl's lingerie. Motley Crue & Cinderella were both guilty of dressing up like transvestites. Motley Crue had caked on makeup, bright red lipstick, pink stockings & 5 cans of hairspray on their head. Haha, and you're trying to say Cinderella wasn't a hair-band? Even the fucking name, CINDERELLA, is female & aiming for maximum androgyny.

  • @TheAvailable43

SO HOllywood rose N La GUNNS the bands that were formed as a supergroup GUNS N ROSES were not a hair band either right? I guesse Axl never had hair spray in makeup in the Music Video of Welcome to the jungle right?

I guesse drummer Steven Adler did not spend all his money on his hair after all right?

  • I know Etta James better win a grammy for this CD....covers or not...she ETTAFIED every single song...

  • I do like the blues version of this song :)

  • Going to miss her :(

  • RIP etta :(

  • Etta, you were the single most influential female vocalist ever to touch my life. My grandmother loved you, my mother loves you and I adore you. You could do anything! You will be missed. RIP Jamesetta Rogers. <3 <3 <3

  • @RockMamaTJD Couldn't have said it better myself! She was awesome, and I think Slash in particular would be proud of this!:)

  • guns and roses was not a hair band....them and acts like pearl jam and nirvana did in the age of hairbands..iliked hairbands but gnr is notone.. if ya want hairbands..ciderella poison slaughter

  • @78Hotmom no, Nirvana did in the hairbands, but GNR started as a glamband like 265308 says. watch?v=I1nzLuXctC4 & watch?v=sLQXClhT3Bg&feature=related & watch?v=ec7eYnGcoW8 ......and tell me these are not a hairband look.

  • wow i wasnt expecting this to sound so GOOD!

  • Me gusta!. Nueva melodía a la canción que hizo hito en Gun's N'roses

  • whoa

  • How cool is this! Wow.

  • R.I.P

  • RIP Etta James

  • @unskinnyboba - welcome to the jungle sums up sleazy rock. Poison are much more ''hair metal' than guns n roses. Or steel panther...all good though. This however has not tickled my fancy

  • @markbarkable , sorry you are so wrong, poison is crap and guns n roses is one of the best rock bands in the past 20 years.Slash is a guitar god and axl is a genius

  • Rock your 70 yr old self etta! this is like what placebo did with kate bush's music; this version is so much better!

  • R.I.P. Etta. A true legend

  • 80's Crappy? Dear god... just for Etta recorded the music its already a sing that there was no Crappy... so give your opinion but dont underestimate the work of other genius too...

    Poor of Soul...

  • RIP

  • Such an alluring, talented lady she was.

  • This is the sound of an angel !

    Thanks for the post.

  • Only Etta could turn crappy 80's hair metal into a great blues song.

  • @unskinnyboba You're completely ignorant. Guns N' Roses aren't "hair metal," and Appetite for Destruction is one of the greatest American rock records.Gn'R were a blues-enthused rock act. Get a clue.

  • @cubbyblues

Guns N' Roses was a hair band at first...they were a supergroup of Axl ROSE Glam band Hollywood Rose and Traci GUNNS "L.A. Guns" thus the name Guns N Roses..

Look at Welcome to Jungle video Axl is all glammed out with makeup n hair spray..N who can forget drummer Steven Adler's perfect GLAM Hair..

Sorry mate UR dead wrong they were a Hair band....at first the diff they were betta n progressed n evolved...

  • @265308 No, I'm not wrong. Their look had elements of the glam bands because they were influenced largely by Hanoi Rocks, who Izzy was a huge fan of. But Michael Monroe wasn't a hair metal cliche, he was the PROTOTYPE. Gn'R were never like Poison and all the other pop acts on the strip. They were edgier and more aggressive. People lump them into the hair band thing because they came out of the Sunset strip. So what?

  • @265308 Today, calling "GnR" a hair band is used as an insult. That's mostly what I was responding to. They weren't just a crappy hair band. As I said, Guns N' Roses may have had the look of Hanoi Rocks, but they were a band cut from the same cloth as The Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

  • @cubbyblues He's right, GNR was a big-hair-glam band...just the hair wasn't that big. Sure they were bluesy and heavily influenced by Zeppelin, but still started out in the same circle as Motley Crue, etc.

  • @KidJitsu Who cares if GNR was a big - hair -glam - band it's the music that counts not what they look like!

  • @1963GaryKnight well we're just having a discussion here old timer...just move along if it doesn't suit you.

  • @cubbyblues They are listen...they don't "HEAR" the music! LOL, most don't care to know the history of music and where bands start out, etc!

  • @unskinnyboba lol

  • I never would have thought a classic rock song would have worked...Shame on me...Etta James pulls it off and then some !

  • @mnw1989 ok rock comes from blues do some homework

  • @JJBLUES1975 be less of a windbag and learn manners and respect ! do some homework...

  • R.I.P. Etta. hell of a woman, hell of a singer!

  • RIP ETTA JAMES A TRUE DIVA

  • I have only heard this song done by Guns N' Roses, this version is not bad either.

  • RIP

  • RIP :[

  • R.I.P my dear. =(

  • @priestlayfan imma die hard gnr fan and i like this!

  • i like this version.this is very different than gnr so its difficult to compare these two versions.but imma gunner soo.. :D i like gnr better :)

  • Etta was harder in every way than Guns 'n Roses

  • @budlatanville you're dumb

  • @kobeisapunkrapist my God, you're right! How have I not seen it before?!

thanks for clearing that up for me!

  • R.I.P :(

  • RIP

  • Guns and Roses are balls.

this is the best they've ever sounded. :3

    Rip etta.

  • I am a die hard Guns fan, and I love this haha. RIP.

  • Siempre se van los mejores

  • "My mother always wanted me to be a jazz singer, but I always wanted to be raunchy," LOL. Awesome.

    RIP Ms James.

  • Wow! She was so classic, I love this.

  • R.I.P Etta :/

  • RIP Ms. James - January 20, 2012

  • Te cuida Axel Rose!

  • Every song as good as this can be done stripped down to 6 string. She breaks it down with a full band and gives the song the credit. I love G n R original but I can hear the lyrics on this. She is respectful of the song and meaning! Did she just pass?

  • Love Etta James. Not keen on this though. Sorry.

  • @TheNeilbraham She didn't "loose" it as she might have on another take. But she does the song justice, in my book. Takes courage to cover this song, as she's from a much older generation. I have NEVER heard an artist who could bridge the gaps of time so well. What a gem among women and artists! RIP

  • just awesome !! yeah! smooth.!

  • Go girl. Sounds great! yb xx

  • Ficou muito melhor do que a versão do autor!!

Maravilhoso, agora dar pra sentir o potencial da canção!!

Pq antes era muito barulhenta, e o tal de Axl não canta mais essa música.

    Fato!!
