This is one of the clearest videos I have seen on how to make these models. I think that what would make this video so much better is if you removed the music and told use step by step on how to do it, or even text on the screen.
@caseyedds11 I may do that, but the thing is, I have a terrible voice... watch my tutorial on the origami crane and you will see... I think text is a much better idea and I have noticed the problem you have told me about already... I have a video with music but with added text. It is my latest video to date, (19/11/2010), and is called how to make an origami gyroscope. This has over 100 views and has been up for a couple of weeks! Thank you for your advice =)
If you have got 15cm x 15cm paper. Cut that into quarters so that you end up with 4 sheets of 7.5cm x 7.5cm paper per 1 ,15cm sheet. Origami paper is thinner than usual paper. I just took a sheet of a4 and cut that into a square, then 4 more squares from that. Origami paper is better
Then I would make the small, 30 piece model so that you don't waste too much paper if you get it wrong. If you still have any patience left in you, go make the big one. But be warned, it took me 2 weeks to make!
What do you mean fatter???? Do you more than 3 units per spike??? if you do then that is the problem, you need to use 3. if it is not the spikes then place another comment down. Good luck
when you surround the first 5 unit ring with 6 unit rings you keep doing the same thing;) 0639243 and nice video itsmeordadog if you want watch my videos and pos a commnet.
oh right what you do is you make six unit rings all the way around the five unit, if you have ever made a 120 unit bucky ball before it is the same concept but easier i think. Look at the finished model at the start and you will see how the siz units go around the five units.
However you may want to correct the names. It is not actually a truncated icosahedron, which would be the same shape as a soccer ball. This is actually an icosidodecahedron. The truncated icosahedron would actually take 270 tonillo units (the same as would be the Sonobe units).
Very nice, and I'm glad to see you have the patience :D
There's two types of truncation. There's vertex truncation and there's Rhombi truncation which is truncation of an edge.
To make a soccer ball, you take a smooth faced icosahedron and you truncate (Cut) off each vertex so that 1/3 of each triangle around the vertex is cut off. This will create a pentagon in its place and hexagons where the triangles used to be.
If you were to do a rhobmi to an icosahedron OR a dodecahedron, you'd get a rhobmicosidodecahedron. Look up wikipedia for this :)
it took me ages to make 30 units so i probably wont be making that lol, looks too complicated. I also hvnt done origami in a while and dont feel like starting again :) lol thanks for subing im subing back. :)
i made 60 of the kusudamas and 10 of the harder version kusudamas i also made the stellated easy star (60!!) all this im going to hang up on my brothers wedding =) thx very much for the tuts!

I think next time you should show it with colored paper, because then it'd be easier to tell the different sides apart.

hey that was great, I'm going to make one of the 120 pieces one
I just have one question, what do you do after you surround the first 5 unit ring with 6 unit rings?

Oh! The assembly looks really complicated!! You would be having a lot of patience!! Nice video.......definitely 5 stars!! :)

oh ok thanks for the details, how do u tell if something is truncated??? what does it mean, i cant find it in the dictionary
