I forget his name but a savate (french kickboxing) fighter went to korea and fought a tkd fighter. he was used to blocking kicks instead of dodging because savate has alot of quick kicks but not many powerful ones. Long story short he got both his arms broken before the fight was over. Although he did end up winning i bet he wishes he dodged instead of blocked.

This is good tkd but lets be under no illusions it is a high velocity SPORT and nothing else. I reached 2nd dan in a tkd when belts meant something and i can honestly say this stuff wont save your arse in a crowded place when it kicks off.For those who practice it please dont fall into the trap of thinking this is for selfdefence because it isnt.Take away the competition rules and everything you have learned will go out of the window. in a real fight.

Tae Kwon doe involve mostly kick strikes but is great I havve been n it for quite a long time now!!! I must have 2 say that there is little balance from each 1 jus throwing strikes not watching their balance not only do they throw themselves off but make it easier 4 their opponent.

I'm new to TKD but wtf is with WTF? i know you can't punch in the head but half of these guys dont even keep their hands up and end up looking like irish riverdancers. i didnt see a single hand technique that was worth anything in at least the first half of the video. I joined because it is a beautiful sport and i want to learn discipline and self defence, but if you go into a street fight and fight like this, someone who doesn't know how to kick could sweep you off your feet.

@chrisrocks2010 As black belts they dont need their hands up because if you had color belts that's different. Black belts already know how to block the kicks quickly so they dont need to put their hands up anyway, when you're a white, yellow, orange, etc. You have to put the hands up. It all part of the rules in WTF, the thing is I dont know if it's optional to put your hands up. But the thing im trying to tell you is black belts dont need their hands up for the specific reasons I just told you.

I love the look of this sport and appreciate the skill/art, but I think even with very modest Aikido skills I could simply stepp in and slightly off line and take them off their feet. However, that being said this is sport with rules....my Uncle studied Tae Keon many years ago (brown belt), and when sparring up close...shit...he kicks my ass without any issues...lol...with punches! Very hard to use Aikido! He said they never taught kicks at all in the old days until you mastered how to punch?

@supermanvalle I don't know man...I have sparred with a girl who learned off an australian tkd champion and olympic competitor...if I try to attack her she woops me, if she tries to attack me I woop her...she is better at TKD than I am in aikido...I don't have a belt and she is brown belt...and it doesn't make any difference...just my moves don't usually hurt her...where some of hers are very painfull...they both work well in self defence...when I fight close with my uncle I can't match speed!

@supermanvalle I trained in buck hawk pai style. In edmonton in the late 70's we challenged tkd in full contact. we just killed them. they won 1 second place at that time. In a real fight with a tkd fighter. I took his legs first knocked him off his rythum. He was also a boxer and cranked me a good one on the shnoz, I gave him a wicked black eye. we had a lot of mutual respect after that. A lot depends on the guy you are fighting not just the style.

Tae Kwan Do is so pretty. I could never get into it cuz I have seen white belt karate students beat Black belt Tae Kwon Do experts but I still think it is pretty, just the philosophy for most practitioners seems limited in someway.

@gkb6 Yeah I kinda have to go back on my word a bit. There was one guy at my Dojo who was a 3rd degree black in TKD. He could smoke anyone who walked through the door. I have seen Black belts in TKD get beat by our white belts over and over though. I can't speak for all TKD but I think most people who receive the title master take it a little too literal. Not all black belts are really black belts if you know what I mean. I see most of these people in TKD. I think it is a great style though.
