this does give me a slight rememberence of datsik, but i will say this is much better, cleaner changes, cleaner riff marks, all around a damn good song mate.
@PequenoPoqui The best tips I can give would be to focus on getting very clean and solid samples for drums. Secondly, learn every aspect of what Reason has to offer. Look up how each instance, whether it be a synth or effect, works and what it does. Understand mixing and master as well as the difference between the two. Also don't expect it to come overnight. Don't set extremely high expectations if you're fairly new to producing. Have patience and continue to learn as many techniques as you can
@cheefybeefy Really it depends on if you're a hardware or a software kinda guy. I personally have a simple M-Audio Oxygen 25 key with a few knobs and easy goto track/transpose buttons for octave and instance switching but everything else I use whatever software I'm creating in.
i really wanna know how to get that transforming wobble...i couldn't get it to work on the BIAB tut. i know it changes the modulation right? giving it that wavetable, type transformation.
hey man great song and great tutorials realy like your dub,,,but i have one question, im new to this and im trying to get the wah wah sound at for example 0:28 in your song but i cant find it,,,do you have a tutorial on it or do ypu have any tips thx mate
dude....so sick...i've been using reason for a couple weeks now, making some progress thx to ur excision tutorial, i was wondering if u knew a good place to get samples and sounds for reason? Preferably free but if not no problem.
Been following you a long time homie and I have to say this is your best track I've heard =], I'll definitely buy it once you put it up on beatport or wherever.
HOLY MOLY DUDE!!! WOW WEE!!! Very nice! Your pieces inspire me and give me hope! ESPECIALLY now knowing that I will NOT need to get tons more $ to purchase multiple programs to make the music I want. Your pieces are very nice! I mean it :-) PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE. QUESTION: Are you a professional? Or did you take classes? Do you sell your stuff?
@beefalie Thanks man. I appreciate the kind words. To answer your questions, no I'm not a professional and have never gone to school for audio engineering. Everything I've done is self taught, however I've been doing it for roughly 10 years so I've learned a lot in the time I've been producing. I do sell my stuff and as of right now a few of my tracks are having contracts drawn up but nothing's been released yet. Keep your eye out for this one though ;)
Question, all of the sounds in this song, you said you did it all with Reason on Soundcloud.. Did you make all of your sounds on your own (not talking about the wobbles)?
@MalleusDUB Okay cool, I have another question, I don't wanna sound like I'm trying to take your ideas on how you do things haha. But what do you use to do that? Do you get the audio files and plug them into the NN-XT because with the Re-Mix there are 14 different channels, not a lot of room.
@tylertange Of all the Rottun tracks you could have picked, Calypso is not one I would consider an influence on this track. The style is similar to Datsik on this tune but because he is an influence however I didn't rip off anything of his to make it so this in fact "my own." May I suggest checking out my soundcloud to see that I have a very wide array of styles and influences. I appreciate the kind words btw, but I push for originality and to be compared to a tune like Calypso is degrading.
@MalleusDUB alright ill check out your sound cloud. atleast you know how to take criticism good lol. im about to buy reason and make some stuff of my own soon, FL is not cutting it. your videos were helpful.
@tylertange I started with FL and used it for 8 years off and on...once I got Reason, things didn't seem so confusing. Now I can use both to their fullest capacity. Reason is so much more user friendly than FL in my opinion so hopefully you enjoy using it as much as I did.
Been watching tuts on you for a while. you've been inspiring me to get reason im really shitty with fl studio just type in aceofdubs epic dubstep and youll find me.your dubstep is the kind i like robotic sounds like excision.if you comment and tell me how im doing making dubstep it would make my day.
Hi, I'm 14 years old and a reason user, and I really admire your style. I've made a few dubstep songs, and I'd love it if you could check out my song 'Make My Day (Down The River VIP)'. I'm new to dubstep producing, but I have been listening to alot of your songs on Soundcloud and you are the person who has influenced me the most. If I could have anyone's opinion it would be yours.
@MalleusDUB the noises I want. I have these melodys/patterns in my head, I know what I want the end result to sound like, I just really REALLY need some help with a tutorial on how to make your synth make the specific noises you want it to do, for dubstep or any other techno type music. If you had the time, (OR could even post some links you've used or found on dubstep automation for reason it would be a great help
@MalleusDUB this track is FUCKING AWESOME! I was just wondering as well as every other reason noob out there, if you could post a tutorial on the step by step process you would use to automate knobs for a quick maybe 20 - 30 second dubstep "riff" (if you can call it that) say for example something similar (since I know you wouldnt give your own personal tricks away lol) to the chorus of your song "punisher" I have an extremely hard time making the automation knobs make the synth on my track do
I don't know if you have the time, or if you'll read this, but could I ask you for some help with mixing and mastering, with drums especially. I'm trying to get my drums to hit really fucking hard like what you have going on here, but it always kind of fucks up the rest of the mix. Some general tips would also help. I'm using Reason as well, I'm just not as good at you. :P
@PugOfDoom Well I personally use an extensive drum setup. I have a pre-mixer EQ, Stereo Imager, Reverb, Envelope Filter, and Maximizer for each drum kit piece. Then I run each kit piece to a separate mixer channel and have a post-mixer Compressor, Envelope Filter, and double EQs in the aux sends of the mixers. Then my mastering suite has a bit of Compression, EQ boost, Maximization, and Stereo Imaging. This gives you full control over the drums and pumps them to their peak without clipping. :)
@MalleusDUB Would you mind doing a little overview/tutorial on the specifics? I get what you're doing with all the parts there, but it's the little details that would stick with me well. :P
Like, I'm not very good on the technical side of things. I just kind of go by visual and audio without know how things REALLY affect other things. (I think I'm decent with mixing, and to be honest, I think I'm quite good. You on the other hand, are great, and I want to learn the science behind your sound)
@MalleusDUB man! hardcore dedicated reason users like you scare the shit out of me. i get intimdated by how good people like you and lucky date are with the program.
@AceTheIntrovertMusic All it takes is hard work, patience, and dedication to learning production. Once you understand production, the software and hardware are more of a toy that you get to play with to get the coolest sounding stuff you can think of. It's comparable to learning how to play guitar. It takes a while to learn how but once you know how you get to mess around with all the cool sounds, effects, and techniques available.
@WalkAwayVietnam I've automated a lot of knobs to get that sound. Pitch, cutoff freq, EQ etc. The best way to make sick basses is to experiment with all of the knobs in your processes to find out which ones make the biggest difference.
@MalleusDUB How much is a sound card? Idk what any of that is sooo, I just have a line from Mr. Nobody that would be perfect for a song. Could you perhaps message me the way to do it step by step? Or better yet, do a tutorial on it...I bet a lot of poeple would love it(:
@illtellyouasecret Thank you :) I however don't do tutorials on how to make sounds I personally use in my tracks. But just know that most of my synths start from that Excision/Datsik tutorial I put up. That's the basis of a lot of my sound. I just process them more. I can't hold everyone's hand.
