These are the standard attack for the Ju Nana Hon Kata that our style of Tomiki Aikido uses. We also utilize overhead strikes, side strike to head, punch to stomach, one hand grabs, two hand grabs, etc., etc., in various other katas. Our school also teaches self defense techniques against different attacks and weapons.
Was the threat intentionally the hand walking forward or is this usually how the attack comes? If it isn't then a preface to explain why would stop a lot of criticism of aikido's martial aspect being unworthy, as seen in many forums.
