Jammmmeeeddd!!!!!!!!!! I dont like how it mounts to the side of the scope- so it actually might mess with the main scope by jarring it might be fine for a little 22 but bigger guns might jarr it horrible.
You're right! The thin TNV scope mount is (or was) not nearly as sturdy. I purchased one and mounted it; only to have it break. I never got to use it. However, I called the company and they sent another one after I sent mine back. They said that they wanted it back for testing to make improvements. I'm happy with the replacement ring. BTW - there was a long wait as a result of a large military order, which took precedence over civilian sales, which is fine with me.
Interesting, but I think I'd rather use the hash marks on a scope, they give you distances, if you can count and or understand the ballistics of your caliber. No need to keep spending the bucks. Besides, someone who understands hash marks for varying distances will never see this as an issue, but if they do, take their rifle from them...lolo!
@1LonePuma I will say that the side mounted red dot makes it very quick to acquire the target at very close range (e.g. 10-50ft.). All of the open class 3 gun shooters use them. I shoot tacital optics class, so for that set-up I use just a 1-4 scope.
Well I went ahead and got this "set up" on my M4 and I must say it' pretty epic. Went and sighted in both scopes and had too much fun. Now I just need to find an event nearby and go shooting. Thanks again.
Obviously you were shooting left handed with the Bushnell scope setup on the left side, and as you mention if you were righthanded it would be on the right hand side of your firearm. With it so low on the left, do you think it would interfer with the casing ejetions setup on the rightside of the firearm for a right handed shoother? Is that a valid concern? I really like that setup. Great job!
@CUatTheEnd Unfortunately I haven't tried putting the red dot on the other side but I think you'd have to play with the placement to figure out just how to avoid the ejected casings. Placed far enough back the red dot would be in the clear. Likewise, leaving it at a shallow angle could work-- but all this depends upon just where your scope is mounted too. Mine is pretty far forward. Wish I had a better answer for you.
@DiligentPursuit Since the Bushnell has no eye relief (1x magnification) you could simply mount the sight to the front of the Leupold rather than the rear or install a brass collector/deflector to avoid the sight being damaged by ejecting rounds. Your design seems very intuitive otherwise.
@cchanderson Agree. When running .223 I've never had a problem. However, I was running a CMMG 22LR conversion in the rifle during this shoot, and I've not been happy with the number of jams I get from it. I think I'd need to go with a dedicated upper for 22LR to get good reliability. (I also have a Sig 522, and that rifle has been very reliable shooting 22LR.)
@DiligentPursuit at first i didn't clean my ruger 10/22 because my cleaning kit took forever to come in. so i took it out the way it was, it jammed quite a bit even with CCI mini mags, especially with the TI-25 mags, i didn't adjust it properly. a week later i cleaned it, got the mag to fit right 400 rounds of fed bulk pack. not even one single jam, even with heavy rapid fire.
@blaziankhmer Don't have a 10/22 myself, but know that they have a great (and long) reputation for being solid. Glad yours is living up to that reputation.
@DiligentPursuit and it looks fantastic with the ATI strikeforce stock, but the sig 522 you have is a beaut itself. i've heard they are the best of the best when it comes to 22lr
@lapezeus Everybody I've seen who has two optics, or who uses iron sights set on an angle along side their scope, has the second optic/sight on the strong side of the rifle. Just feels better to rotate the gun away from the strong side, though I can't think of any practical reason why you'd have to.
@rigariga7171 Just finished making changes to the rifle, among which are a full set of ambidextrous controls. I recently posted a video detailing it all on my YouTube channel.
Very nice! I'm thinking of doing the same with my Aimpoint micro and a Leatherwood CMR. Nice set up you have there, though dialing in the red dot could be confusing. Thanks for sharing.
Nice video. I like the idea of having a dual optics setup but im not sure im sold. It seems to me that you lose a lot of visibility if you mount the optic on your outermost strong side, but you seemed to hit what you were aiming at!
Thanks for your reply. Thinking about what I proposed, really, unless you had all the parts in your hands and positioned them together would you know it would "fit". Hence the reason for all the quick release mounts. It's too bad the Bushnell can't be rotated in it's own mount.
Hoping you'll see this; I have a few questions. In your mounting of the TRS-25, it looks like you are a bit offset(not true vertical). Did that affect how you zeroed it? Also, I'm wondering if you could have achieved the same thing with a Weaver Tactical Adapter Black Offset 99671(way cheaper, mounting on the top rail also)? You can Google that and find it on Amazon.
Can you tell me what ranges you zeroed both optics? Thanks
@SerpentLord666 The Bushnell does hang at an unorthodox angle, and that makes zeroing a bit clumsey- a little like using an etch-a-sketch. But you get the hang of it. I looked at the Weaver and others like it. I think it could work, but you don't get as much flexibility in positioning the optic right where it's most comfortable. RE: the range, right now the scope is zeroed at 100yards, and the red dot at about 20. Have fun with your new AR.
Nice optics setup and great informative video. Just bought my 1st AR(SR-556) and looking for optics now. I actually think I'll try the Bushnell alone though first. It's a shame the adaptive mount is so expensive. Thanks!
@dylbyl1234 This is a Rock River Arms Coyote. It has a 20in heavy barrel with a Wylde chamber, Smith Vortex flash hider, ERGO tactical pistol grip, the Ace ARFX full length skeletonized stock, and a Hogue free float tube. I'm also running the CMMG 22LR conversion in the rifle during this shoot.

@DiligentPursuit daniel defense has an offset rail you can mount to your flat top for your red dot for about 40 bucks..

@cchanderson I concur, and if you have the money to buy the failzero coated upper or bolt carrier group, you can make your AR nigh unjammable.

How much for the optics and the mounts?
chonbeau 1 year ago
@chonbeau The PEPR mount is about $80 or 90$ if I recall. The SAR-1 was $79. The Bushnell was $90 and the Leopold about $300. So about $550 total.
