I remember listening to these AFI tracks when I was around 12. I heard Miss Murder the other week and honestly thought it was a different band with the same name or that this AFI wasn't called AFI but well... what the fuck happened?
Well, I prefer their stuff with current band (with Jade and Hunter, that is), though I don't really like (I would say "hate", but.. well, it's AFI) Crash Love - the only songs I can stand are Medicate and...er.. yaeh, Medicate. And maybe Beautiful Thieves and Torch Song.. no. But I love their stuff from Sing The Sorrow. <3
@KnodoffFan if you had the original release of answer that and stay fashionable on wingnut records you would see that it was actually anthems for insubordinates but it seems they said years later that a.f.i stood for a fire inside which is easier to remember and buy for the main sheeple crowd...i miss those days
dear everyone who is saying they never should've changed and all this shit, can you imagine if a 36 year old man was still writing songs like this!?! come on, people would ridecule the band, Crash Love, even if it's not your style, it's still brilliant, there's no denying that, same with Decemberunderground, but whatev's :/, you have an oppinion, so do i
@ZacsRiotClan He's not a hipster you dumbass, he likes the hardcore punk stuff, like I do. The new stuff is overproduced, mainstream music. I don't hate all mainstream music, but the stuff that they play is completely what punk is not. Its too bad their music isn't like this anymore
selling out is bullshit....seriously who fuckin cares, if they make great music they deserve to make great money, afi chose to become shitty music and thats fine because that is the music they wanted to make and there are people who want to listen to it...
answer that...isnt even close to anything they have acheived imo
black sails, AOD, and STS is the freakin shit
the first three are fun, and really cool, but when it comes to actual artistic, cathardic music, and lyrics, then what they are doing now is way better
I'm 12 year old girl and I want a mohawk. But guess? :D My mom wont let me get one xD Pretty much same situation right here, kinda :P Though my mom is a old punker xD I love AFI anyways ^^
@JustCore9 it originaly stood for anthems for insubordinance, and they thought about making it "all fucking idiots" but decided to changed it to a fire inside
@MISSsuperstarrr Eh, I suppose. But, I just don't hold it against them because I'm not passionate about their music. I appreciate them, but I could live without them.
either way sell out or not, these guys wud NOT be making PUNK music at the moment, atleast they are still around and make half decent radio music and still do shows where they play a couple oldies for u guys.. if they didnt sell out they wud NOT be around right now no band, lets see what other amazing 90's bands are still around right now? samshing pumpkins, NOPE, OFFSPRING? naaaaaaaah, the only one ic an think of is greenday and they sold out too lawls
@iloveroxasaxeldemyx So do I, I much prefer this, although I went to see AFI last month and I really enjoyed the Crash Love album. There just amazing. ahaaha :)
@iloveroxasaxeldemyx Your right, plus he matured a bit since 18 years ago. 18 years ago these vocals were what he was aiming, on Crash Love he is actually singing as to this it's more shouting. But I have to say this is my favourite song off of the album, a right good tune :)
@charlotteb56621: I agree completely. This is also one of my favorites.
I saw AFI twice in the fall of the CL tour, and I'm gonna see them again on the GD tour. I was sooo enthralled. They were great live. They have such an energetic aura, and are able to captivate the audience, or so it seemed.
They actually played "Don't Make Me Ill" at one of the concerts I went to. :D They ranged from their first to their last, which is just... eargasmic. XD
@iloveroxasaxeldemyx this is a million times better than crash love, and 10000000000000000 times better than that awful winter album. i miss this band :(
i love them! just cuz they changed doesnt mean everyone should all of a sudden hate them. everyone changes so get over it and love them for what they were, are, and will be.(:
I love old AFI and their stuff Davey is awesome still and I don't care what anyone says, I still listen to them Davey Havoc has an excellent understanding of music. I'm the same way about The Used...why they chose to do the stuff they do now I will never know. lol
What happened to AFI? They used to be clever and witty. Now they're just another pop rock band with too much make up writing gothic love songs at an attempt to be horror punk. I bought this album and it was 7 bucks. I bought December Underground to see if I liked it,it was 20 bucks. What can I say? Sellout.
What happened was they changed, just like every band does. They developed, and became mature with their work. So some people don't like it, totally understandable, but what you should be doing instead of criticizing their new stuff is just accepting the fact that they changed, like they always said they would. Sure it'd be amazing if they were still punk rock, though.
actually the sex pistols just did that to fuck with the major record companies.. They technically did sell out, but they did it out of humor, they didn't give any regard to becoming famous and rich at all.
And yes, this is the best afi album by far, great PUNK BAND.
Gothic love songs and Horror punk ? They have matured alot. Davey is the same bastard (in a positive sense ^^ ) as he used to be , and he still puts hidden messages in lyrics. He never goes right to the point on his new material. Sure , the sound is not as tight and hardcore as it used to be ( :( ) but give him a break he is 40 years old...
the price of albums does not in anyway dictate the band being a sellout. It depends on the place you bought it and the average album sale price of the times. You rarely see an album for 7 bucks anymore. Prices change with time. Simple as that.
@WIll40592 okay. usually i wouldn't do this, but they did sell out. i don't want to start an arguement, but if you look at them today, they hae totally sold out to the goth/emo/scene croud. back when their sound started to shift, the whole goth scene was really popular. do the math.
@StupidChicagoPunk your an idiot they arent sell outs just because they become successful and are getting free publicity and free promotions without those big corporations you would probably have never even heard of the current bands you listen to
@jdmchoes92 listen to the diferences in their music now and the music when they started. if you pay attention, you will notice that their musical style arcs around the time they start getting money. they sold out their soun to become emo (at that time better known as goth).

@beensandfranks IS ANYONE READING THESE BEFORE THEY POST? I KNOW THEY DIDN"T SELL OUT! it jus so happens that green day moved in a shity direction with their music for a good cause!
woah i knew AFI for their song Miss Murder and this is wayyyy different. i guess bands' older music is usually always better. \: at least in my opinion.
dude od afi was the shit..they selled out and turn fucking emo..maybe for the money???because they give a rats ass about the music ..since they dont care anymore and they go with the trend.
they deffinatly did NOT sell out. i just think their own tastes in music changed. like it was progessional in the art of drowing, and sunk a little more in in sing the sorrow. then december underground was their changing point. i know he still loves hardcore though. just type in "ceremony davey havok" its an awesome video (especially is your straight edge ;D)
Right on! I dont think theyre sellouts but their new style of music just isnt me. I was brought on the first 5 AFI cds, but its a shame the band doesnt even acknowledge them on their website! Whats that about?
Yeah, I didn't mean they sold out, I think a lot of people see bands trying to get their message out further, and think that they are selling out.
I think selling out, is doing things just for the money, that you're going to use for personal things, selling lunchboxes, watches, action figures, clocks, christmas special, that's pushing it a little far, not to point any fingers (*cough* KISS *cough*)
old AFI sounds better and is punk which is sweet but the lyrics just have way less meaning. Newer stuff is way more creative and influential, but it is way too emo and mainstream
fucking sellouts... they where really badass and now its a shame seeing them on dumb hipster T-shirts

woah i knew AFI for their song Miss Murder and this is wayyyy different. i guess bands' older music is usually always better. \: at least in my opinion.

Not to be disrespectful at all, but what happened to them?
like, anyone can obviously see the huge difference in their style from then, and now.

they deffinatly did NOT sell out. i just think their own tastes in music changed. like it was progessional in the art of drowing, and sunk a little more in in sing the sorrow. then december underground was their changing point. i know he still loves hardcore though. just type in "ceremony davey havok" its an awesome video (especially is your straight edge ;D)

Right on! I dont think theyre sellouts but their new style of music just isnt me. I was brought on the first 5 AFI cds, but its a shame the band doesnt even acknowledge them on their website! Whats that about?
OnionChang 2 years ago
Yeah, I didn't mean they sold out, I think a lot of people see bands trying to get their message out further, and think that they are selling out.
I think selling out, is doing things just for the money, that you're going to use for personal things, selling lunchboxes, watches, action figures, clocks, christmas special, that's pushing it a little far, not to point any fingers (*cough* KISS *cough*)
martinibockinstile 2 years ago
Hey, KISS made good music and they made a shit load of money.
Dont be a jealous prick.
mreman239 2 years ago
Lol, I never said they didn't make good music, but come on, look at all the merchandise they had, and now Gene Simmons with that reality show, ugh.

old AFI sounds better and is punk which is sweet but the lyrics just have way less meaning. Newer stuff is way more creative and influential, but it is way too emo and mainstream
