  • Dude! What is this a music video or a tutorial?

  • This video went viral on Rabat

  • any tips for a young artist/game developer

  • Not another retarded video with some crap music. When are peeps going to start making something useful?

  • That sucks!

  • Dylan Cole tutorial, nicely done :)

  • good drawing but ¬¬ try to record it

  • que barbaro, que feo ,,,,,,,,,,,haslo en photoshop y despues lo sasas a speed paiting no te cuesta nada ,,,,,,,,mai

  • @3:01 i swear thats the guy who teache's the singers to dane on the x-factor!? o_O

  • u don't actually need so many layers to paint, but it's just individual preferences anyway, nowadays, we tend to mix 3d elements into matte painting as well, not just photo references. =)

  • WHY WOULD YOU DO SUCH A THING? WHY DID YOU USE A CRAPPY COVER OF A BEATLES SONG????

  • @PickleProds yea its garbage cover of the beatles lol

  • @eddythelol I personally liked the cover :)

  • @TheKiriru its the kind of song white people like

  • wow well done.

  • cool, but...

That person is way too big considering perspective. and this is the worst version of this song I've ever heard.

  • c'est des photos ce que tu rajoutes enculé, il est ou le vrai matte painting ?!!

  • I need some help with the foliage (just the bushes and shrubs) I can do grass and trees alittle

  • So, this is not the original tut from the dvd right?

  • @dexigner01 and awesome song choice btw :)

  • beauttiful...

  • I don't like matte... To me, it's like cheating.. And the result is imho rarely that good.. But that's MY opinion so don't mock me for telling

  • @PendoxSwespin i think the same way man

  • @Chibirubiks 3d is also cheating. but it has to be super clean and unoticeable to look and feel natural. I don't do the painterly look that's what is fake.

both transformers used many matte painting plates .

  • Ditto, man. Its like saying you painted that but you didnt. you kind of like B.Sed you're way into painting it. In a way its like copyright infringement.

  • @venge329 yea just like people who make collages or people that take photographs of buildings, they're totally stealing someone elses work...oh, and when those painters use things they've seen in the past for inspiration or use models to make their painting, yea, they should totally get sued for that...i hope you can tell that this is complete sarcasm....

  • No, but when I was reading that I pretended to read it in a slow retarded voice. Assuming thats what you actually sound like.

He started to actually paint it. Ill give him that much. but about half way through he just copied and pasted a bunch of mountains and the the shore. More than half of the time photographers copyright thier photos. I could almost bet that he didnt even ask for permission to use them. Pisses me off when other people steal your work and use it without your knowlage.

  • @venge329 It's one thing to use it to make money it's another to use it for non-profit, using things for educational reasons and using parts of something (not the whole) is covered under fair use. The people that took that picture in the first place stole it from nature, they didn't make that mountain.

  • lol you have so many points. im on your side. no one really gives a fuck if you're using a picture that someone took of the same cloned, endless galleries of palm trees from google or whatever, just to paint yourself a magical beech/fortress of your imagination, especially if it's for fun. so just leave them to it and stop moaning. i bet you copied your mates work in school to cheat on tests or something.

  • if you dont have tight perspective and lighting knowledge, you can paste all kinds of shit and end up with shit lol probably where i would be.making everything hyperrealistic is just time consuming and manial most of time, (of course it requires skill but for the bigger picture/concept don't think it's the utmost priority, besides its a matte painting, not like we give them total credit for painstaking photorealistic detail works but many have fking briliant design and funamental art skills

  • Ever thought that he took those photos himself?

  • Ever thought of shutting the hell up?

Your remark had nothing to do with anything.

  • Apparently it did if you had to comment back with an insult. Fucking Moron

  • @rofldan

No douche, it didn't. Replying doesn't imply anything. It just simply means that I'm taking the time to respond to your previous remark. I'm sorry that I have to point that out to you. :( Plz die.

  • @PendoxSwespin lol everyone uses it!

  • Yes, i'm aware of that. But i think people should rely less on it

  • @PendoxSwespin when you have a tight deadline and have to have futuristic environments due yesterday matte painting is the fast and effective way to go. and backgrounds in Lord of the Rings you see in the movie are almost all matte painted and if they were hand painted it wouldn't look as real as the real things that are going on around it. especially if it has to be painted under tight deadlines. it needs to be relied on. i like the look of done from scratch too. im just stating facts.

  • Of course. I don't mind that they use it to make money or if you don't have enough time to make it from scratch but if they do it for fun and then put it on youtube, i'd rather watch a vid that's painted from scratch.

  • go and watch one that's painted from scratch then O_o

you're not forced to watch this one.

  • I'm not complaining on the video, I'm just telling you that imo i prefer drawings/Illustrations that don't use textures. I watched it because i thought the result on the preview was pretty good (Though almost anything will look good on a thumbnail)

  • Wonderful scene!, I just wish I could see your brushstrokes and layers to get a better idea of how you work,

  • can we download that pic somewhere

  • shadows of the foreground objects are opposite direction to the scene's key light.

  • Amazing, its like Minas Tirith in the Future....

  • Flashingflash- Yes, you're right. Basically, matte painting is creating an environment/background from photographs. Photographs combined with photoshop painting to achieve a desired look is what its all about. Usually the company that you are working for would supply a hi-res photo called a plate and its up to the matte painter to add what is not there in reality. Its a very creative and complex method that takes many years of practice. All in all its about having fun.

  • Can you please explain me this, please?

Are you drawing everything from scratch or are you pasting pieces of mountains and then blending them into the desired environment?

Because I'm not fully aware of the concept of mattepainting.

  • Matte painting is painting an image from scratch--if you have the talent--with a paintbrush and real paints, this is just sticking pictures together

  • This is how most matte paintings are done today. It's only still called matte "painting" for traditional reasons. Some people do call themselves "matte artists" or "digital matte painters" instead and paint from scratch only when need be, whether it be a whole thing or certain parts of a shot.

  • salut mec, Je vois que tu maitrise assez bien le matt painting. Je réalise quelque court métrage. En ce moment je suis sur la réalisation d'un film de mort-vivant. Tu pense pouvoir faire des décros assez flippant dans ce thème là ?

  • as i said on my comment i followed a dylan cole tutorial

  • Yeah, why don't you read the damn description before making a stupid, misinformed comment.

  • This song sounds better with The Beatles:)

  • The song sound better with Fiona Apple ;)

and the paint was great! It´s all made by brushes? or includ pictures on it?

    Anyway is awesome

  • first i used brushes to draw the island. After that i included pictures and paint on the pictures to make them match together

    thxs for your comment :)

  • This is amazing. It was really like a kid's doodling at beggining and I didn't really expect much at first sight:) Good work!

  • What song is this?

  • a song call "across the univers" by rufus wainwright

  • Alright thanks dude!

  • Rufus Wainwright may sing but this is a Beeatles cover

  • I have seen that Dylan Cole tutorial before. I think you did a great job putting all of what he showed together into a great piece of work.

I am just starting my own Matte Painting, although I am going to go out and see if I can't find a cheap wacom tablet somewhere to make things a little easier on myself, if not I guess I will just do it with my trusty mouse.

  • Magnificent work! I've just discovered matte painting techniques and find this very motivating!

  • this is not a tutorial and how do we know that the author did it? it could have been cut and paste from other pics....anyhow good work but would have loved the tutorial on it.

  • thxs for comment.. it's thrue is not a tutorial.. when i did it i did'nt thaught to do a print screen during the making of... It was once i finished the job that i thought i might did it...

Anyway you can find the real tutoriel in the net googling dylan cole

Sorry for my poor and bad english

  • it is great work, just don't know how you did it or probably it was a copy and paste from other parts and just over imposed to the scene?

  • How is this a tutorial when you just show what you have done and not how? The title is very misleading for people that are actually looking for a tutorial, that said it is good work.

  • very well dun...

  • awesome work my friend!! - this is so hard to get right!!
