  • He's just collecting the garmonbozia.

  • What's the name of the song in this scene ?

  • I thought that Donna was sooo dead when I first saw this.

  • I doubt that in this scene BOB is feeding on Leland's sorrow. BOB seems primarily in control during the whole of this scene and not Leland. Wise had a nice way of contrasting when BOB was in control from when it was just plain Leland. He did it by the change in his voice, by his breathing, by the way he would look at someone. I would more believe that BOB would be feeling his own sorrow for losing Laura as his next host, having just been reminded of her via Donna. Laura was BOB's obsession.

  • @selphiealmasy8 i prefer to see it as something more ambiguous (how much and exactly when Leyland was totally (or partially) possessed by Bob is unclear, especially in the film, which I love...And the Native American/Tibetan mysticism woven in and the whole surrealistic/otherworldly nature makes me think that the black lodge and its spirits are beyond good and evil, unfathomable perhaps...maybe Bob is just pure 'chaos', what I find a nicer, less Christian alternative to 'Evil'...

  • @SROCeallaigh

The inhabitants of the black lodge have what's called "blue and orange morality". That is to say, while WE might see them as good or evil, the typical human morality (black/white) really cannot be applied to them: They are alien beings. Utterly beyond our limited human ethics. Even B.O.B. is beyond our morality, though certainly more chaotic than the others.

  • Bet they had a Garmonbozia FEAST that night!

  • so... creepy!

  • Agreed. He actually wasn't even a trained professional actor. He was just a prop man and set decorator Lynch had hired to work on the series. The whole BOB thing came out of a complete accident when he was accidentally reflected in a mirror when they were shooting the scene in the pilot where Laura Palmer's mom is lying on the couch and sits up screaming.

Sadly, he died of a heart-attack at the age of 45 back in 1995, so you're right - he'll never have that chance.

  • @710yep he dies of AIDS I think

  • @jeridadams he was a prop guy, but he also had his sag card (i think they actually discuss it on the FWWM dvd bonus features, could be gold box [haven't watched either in a while]). anyone in proximity to "hollywood", regardless of the specific trade, will probably be a guild member. it's a good idea, just look at what happened for mr. silva :)

and anyway, even if he wasn't an actor going into the production, who could doubt that he was an effective actor coming out of it?

  • @jeridadams

No need to apologize for your English. I understood you just fine. They didn't re-shoot it because David Lynch loved it. He does get a lot of his ideas from accidents. There's a video link on Youtube where he explains it. I'll see if I can track it down and post it.

  • Damn! I don't know why, but it won't let me post the link. There's actually two videos where he explains it on two different occasions. One is for the box set and another is at a conference where he speaks to an audience.

  • @710yep

Thanks for answer but where is my comment ?I've been waiting very long time for your answer.I checked my email regularly but now I understand I didnt get email from youtube because you reply to jeridadams

  • @710yep Well you say that it was an accident, but the way an artist works is that he (or she) takes advantage of opportunities all the time. I am sure this wasn't the only "accident" from the movie. That's why it was in part so odd at times, because, aside from some type of a general direction of the plot, many of these ideas came up "on the go". It is just how an artist works.

  • @navesele I've often thought lynch's movies resembled francis bacon paintings.. who often threw paint on a canvas to paint a portrait

  • @000nuckinfuts000 One of my friends has said exactly the same thing; he was likely to be influenced by Bacon. Have you seen Lynch's paintings? They also resemble Bacon's work. Thanks for the comment.

  • @710yep :'( Poor Frank Silva...a hugely underrated and under-noticed TV actor, T.P. just would not be the same without him....hugely missed...Shame there is practically no info on him online, one source says he died of aids, another that he died of a heart attack, both cite wikipedia as a source and wikipedia cites one of them as sources so none of them are reliable really...

  • @SROCeallaigh Agreed on all counts.

  • @710yep Bob's such a fascinating enigma as well, would have loved to find out more about him...there are hints like this and when he supposedly heals Leland that he is not pure 'evil'...Lynch teases us as usual by introducing us to this nightmarish but fascinating spirit realm for only a relatively short part of the series...

  • @SROCeallaigh I don't believe that BOB healing Leland indicated that he wasn't pure evil. He healed Leland for one reason: So the wound would not be discovered, by the police, any doctor or by Leland himself. If he left that specific injury and it was discovered BOB's host would be revealed. It was as purely selfishly motivated as most of BOB's actions.

  • @SROCeallaigh

Bob took up residence in George Bush

  • A brilliant actor

That will never have a career playing a good guy.
