  • I have a feeling that only the guy on lead is doing his own singing. It sounds like the rest of the vocals are by Burt Bacharach's studio vocalists, who backed up many of the artists he wrote for.

it actually sounds like the same people who sang on Burt's own recording of I'll Never Fall in Love Again. Beautiful song, no matter whose really singing.

  • If only we strive to live as community where greed, jealousy and hatred will have no place. If this be quite impossible, striving and trying to may be enough.

  • Families come in different sizes, shapes and colors.

  • Im John Barry through and through, but i was brought up on all the great artists.

    And Bacharach/David.....such great songs

  • i also watched this movie when the invasion of cyprus happened in 1974 by turkey and have loved this movie since then i was a ten year old girl who was inspired by there music at a time when there was a lot of sadness

  • James Hilton :) :) I'm going to have to read his works before I die.

  • this is our path, the path of love!

  • GOOD NEWS. Sony is FINALLY releasing this film on DVD with extras. Project is finished. Release date is around Christmas, if not sooner.

  • Ross Hunter, the producer; later said that when he first hired Burt Bacharach and Hal David to write the score that he didn't realize they were in the process of breaking up. He said that, when the score was delivered "we knew it was a dog" but, since they had a schedule to keep, they had no choice but to proceed and hope for the best.

The lyrics of this song are a perfect case in point: so simplistic they seem to have been written by a ten year old.

  • Never mind what the critics said back then - I love this movie, loved all the songs, including this one... Feel good movie and songs....

  • This is the theme song for The Double Holer Outhouse -- "pooping together, wiping together... just being together...."

huh huh heh huh yeah yeah ButtHead , huh heh huhhh...

  • People need to hear the words of this song.

  • Terrible lyrics! Used to play this song with my mates mates before going out. so bad its good! Actually thought the film was creepier than the wicker man. I would definately live in the 1937 shangri-la much classier. Not the 70's one, seems like a tacky swingers club!

  • God help us all!

  • Mais uma Linda Música do Filme - Horizonte Perdido, Letra maravilhosa!

  • This was a perfect musical. It's a mistake to look at a musical without the music. This type of action would be ridiculous without the music. but the music makes the action make sense. A musical turns life into a dance.

    ----

Last observation: The music in this movie stands on it's own perfectly. I often listen and enjoy very much. I just wish I had a quality DVD recording of the movie.

  • @storm11001001 I wish I could find a good quality recording of the movie as well. Perhaps if enough of us show forth that demand then perhaps Columbia may make it available.

  • São lembranças que fazem parte de nossa vida. I love it. That's part of my life.

  • this movie has me vomiting in stanzas

  • horrible

  • where did you get the digital copy from?

  • Anyone who watches this and likes and who has not heard the Fifth Dimension sing this need to find that version of this song as you should not die without hearing it.

  • I like the song, especially the Fifth Dimension version, but this is beyond bizarre... I need to be debriefed after watching this.

  • i wonder at times-if we have more musical movies-would the world's crime lessen? this planet cannot go back to family values anymore, it will, just to some..to some.let us kill & be more powerful..so sad.

  • Beautiful message. Hope the world will be like that picture.

  • well, you must like your bollocks stapled to a table then if you keep watching it,,,which makes your judgment seem a little questionable.

however, i do agree, for its awfulness it does make it watchable.

one og hollywoods major misfires they should have known better of before production, this should have been made in 1967,,,a year this type of thing worked ok, the world had changed by 1973.

  • had this been made in the sixties it may have worked, but the cheesy, cutsie musical numbers and the sugary plot seemed out of place in 1973 with films like the exorcist, godfather, caberet and sensation popular themes of then.

its an oddity, which harks back to simpler times with a seventies feel, a misfire curio with odd casting.

bobby van was a total mistake, non the singing stars seemed ill at ease, but the music on a whole is very high standard, but i can see why it failed.

  • This story is based on a Book by James Hilton , and its been done on film before, back in 1937. It was directed by Frank Capra and starred Ronald Coleman and Jane Wyatt.

  • yes, i know it was, what im saying is the musical remake seem to belong in the era of dr dolittle, thoughly modern millie , star, hello dolly and its like,,,even then big bugit musicals were making loses so by 73 it was not really fashionable as the musicals then were cabaret, jesus christ superstar and the hugh box office stinkers at long last love, a little light music

  • @jackscal1 What about the modern musicals of today, e.g. the delicious eye candy, "Hairspray," as well as "Dream Girls" and "Mamma MIa." After viewing any of them I'm higher than a kite and practically bouncing. There was in the '90's, "Evita"...and still further back, but well after the "Hello Dolly" days, "Yentl." Can anyone doubt that these were legitimate musicals of their day? What we really miss is the illusion of permanence created in the movies of the 30's and 40's.

  • @prestush mamma mia, hairspray are based off stage musicals that are camp and trendy of today, the musical out put in hollywood is few and far between, succesful only from stage origins, they make a stage musical of everything these days, but to do it for the screen is a bigger gamble, unless an audience is already there, like phantom of the opera

  • A cheesy, tedious film, not even worthy of camp. The only redeeming moments are the musical compositions which are best just listened to rather than watched.

  • @kwijib0 maybe your should have written it! NOT!

  • A great, catchy song....I really like it a lot, abnd I feel better after watching it.

  • This is the one scene from these Horizon postings I'm especially torn about. On the one hand, ridiculous, on the other hand, quite pleasant. In any case, I'm glad the 5th Dimension called this song out of obscurity. Bacharach deserved it.

  • Muy buen filme !!!!!!!!!!

  • As a teenager at the time, I did not watch the movie but heard this music. Hearing it again in this video haunts me and vividly brings back those youthful and wonderful memories.

  • I call it "The Collectivist's Theme Song" ;-)

  • If you google, "Lost Horizon, musical, DVD" several retailers will pop that sell the DVD.

  • I believe this is an extremely underrated movie! Such a beautiful film, with wonderful music.

Burt Bacharach is at his best!

  • Thank you much for posting. I loved this movie!

  • so dreadfully bad it's painful

  • I can understand how critics panned this movie, especially considering the quality of the original. Having said that...I was a young boy and it was the first movie I saw in the theatre. I loved it and I still get nostalgic when I see clips like this. There are emotions you have at that age that slip away over the years. I can almost touch them when I watch this. The movie, the concept, the song, the little boy back then, the hope---all so innocent. Something lacking in the world today

  • So thank you from me, now and at age 10, for posting this.

  • Glad you liked it. I like yourself, saw this movie years ago and enjoyed all of the music. I took me so long to track down a digital copy of the movie just to get the music!! I have to admit that my favorite song is " the things I won't miss".

    Thanks again for the comment

  • I also watched this when I was a little boy and I was soo mesmerized watching it on TV, then a power shortage occured...AARRGGH!

one of my childhood frustrations :(

  • @landofsuchbeauty they wouldnt have a clue how to make a movie of this quality today. This was the last of the great movie musicals! Movies used to make you feel good and that is a lost art.

  • @ramblergarage That is so true. They also taught great lessons. This movie moved me so deeply when I saw it in the movie theatre as a child with my parents.

  • @landofsuchbeauty

I can feel you. It is a really good memory. I saw this with friends, I was peaceful and happy! I am still happy, inside. Oh, where does the innocents go?? Hope I find it again....

  • @landofsuchbeauty I could not have said it better.

  • @landofsuchbeauty Well said. This movie will always remind me of MOM.

  • @landofsuchbeauty I couldn't agree more.
