STOP THE POLITICAL RAPE OF MARIAN PRICE - Marian Price Is currently Politically Interned by the British in Occupied Ireland without trial. She has previously been force fed 400 times on 200 days of Hunger strike. The word rape like a lot of English words originates from Latin. In this instance the Latin verb rapere which means, seize or take by force. The word rape originally had no sexual overones and is still used generically in the English language. This is Political Rape. FREE MARIAN PRICE
Just watched this beginning of my school yr in history. U.S History. i loved it♥ i cried in some parts, but this makes me proud that they went through all this to give me the rights i have now♥
I saw this in my history class (US from 1865-present) this past spring semester of college. This was my favorite subject to learn about, The Suffrage Movement. We watched this segment during the discussion portion of the class and I quickly turned away and kept saying, "I can't watch this, I can't watch this". Now I watch it and it makes me realize what these women went through in order to fight for women's rights, they had a lot of courage. I love this movie.
Marian Price who is currently politically interned in solitary confinement in British Occupied Ireland without trial was force fed 400 times in 200 days of hunger strike, she said, "The force-feeding takes 15 minutes but it feels like forever. You're in control of nothing. You're terrified the food will go down the wrong way and you won't be able to let them know because you can't speak or move. You're frightened you'll choke to death." CAUSE is; STOP THE RAPE OF MARIAN PRICE in CAUSES Facebook
Great movie & a good version of this classic song. However, the lyrics they are singing were not written until 1935 by AP Carter. The version from this period is a Christian hymn written in 1907 by Habershon & Gabriel. While the version the filmmakers chose is not historically accurate it is more fitting, yet the final verse from the orginal would have been very powerful also: "One by one their seats were emptied. One by one they went away. Now the family is parted. Will it be complete one day?"
@jeffdillon1972 can anyone find michael O'brien? as himself man in crowd. please find him in iron jawed angels.ok type the time limit video which was found him.
I am a black women and I consider this fight just as important as the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Anyone who has anything negative to say about this clip is ignorant and just doesn't get it. I am happy that I had people who stood up for me before I was even born so that I could sit at my computer and type my thoughts freely. This movie was great and I am glad that history was brought to life by these actresses.
To all women: we must not take for granted our right to vote! We must remember what it took for us to be able to vote! Be politically informed! Be politically active!
this movie had such a huge impact on me. in high school, I used it in my project on the 19th amendment, and I drafted a stage version of the movie & pitched it to the drama club as a play--they said no, that it was too complex and boring--I had everything, including the parade scenes, simplified. oh well.
thanks for posting, this is one of the most beautiful & haunting moments.
In a country like Philippines where the Catholic Church is strongly against to the rights of women to access to Reproductive Health services and informed choice which includes decisions on spacing and number of children, 11 mothers die everyday due to pregnancy complications that can otherwise be prevented. How many women the Church and Philippine government wants to die? How many abortions, HIV/AIDS and other STDs before they stand, take actions and see the importance of RH Bill?
I watched this movie last night. It makes me proud to know that there were strong women in our past that stood up for their and future generations rights of women. I know that if I had been back in that time...I definitely would have been standing at those or in a rally somewhere. I do that today.
These people are kind of stupid. Doing this, "In order to keep them alive" they could have killed them. Shoving a tube down someone's throat like that and shoving things down it can be dangerous. If it had went down wrong, the food could of went into her lungs and killed her. Gawd!
I know. I, at some point, had one as well. However, they weren't careful with it. They did it without caution, hence she could've been hurt or killed.
We watched this part of the movie in Women's Studies today and my teacher began singing along. One male voice alone with all those women's...it was funny to watch him do it (he was dancing a little) but at the same time he was completly serious. He actually added to the unity factor that the song gave this part of the movie. It was really touching.

Nicely shot, but a clear plastic tube for feeding in those days? Nope. I understand that they used it in the film to heighten the drama of the eggs sliding down it, but sorry, transparent plastic simply did not exist then.
I am watching this in history classnow and we stopped we saw this scene I was so mad and I want to cry they went throuh a lot back in the day and I am so graceful to be a woman well an girl and I am prod to be a gitl and African american girl.
AH! I want this song on my Itouch! Alice Paul, you were truly a grace of God. I don't vote but I'm thankful that a lot of women can today. We watched this during history class and I have to pat Hillary Swank and Alice Paul on the back for their corageousness and tackiling one of the most unthinkable, yet, vital topics back in the early 1900's.
I really don't understand why they never make movies about how men were forced into the army....anyways,the real suffragettes were really great people.
It kills me how corrupt the gov. was back then and still is in ways....... all the suffering for women to be able to vote? i thank the sister sufferagists!!
@funyonrun07 Women need to go back where they belong, Kitchen, raising the kids and the bedroom. Thank God Muslim women still have some class and cover their bodies. Todays women are ho's and are more spreaders of disease then breeders like they should be.!!
this isn't about class. it's about how the women are treated. they have been treated like property. that is not what we are. we are human beings just like you men. and you know what you men don't have any class either! you guys cheat on woman like the scums you are! we are tired of it! we women want respect!
@TheMarukio Who said I'm a man? Have you not read the most recent studies? Women are more likely to cheat on men. Women want all this equal rights and piss standing up, but with that chivalry dies. How many times do you see a women pumping gas in the cold while some loser sits in the car?
@AxisSalley You are right women don't behave like they used to, now they stand up for themselves, and people like you are the ones we have to stand up against. We will continue to stand up for our rights no matter what the cost. For centuries women have been abused by horrible husbands with no recourse. Now women everywhere in the United States have the same rights as men .. Go women's movement.
@xomandaa26xo What facts are you talking about? My local newspaper recently had a front page article talking about how women get off on anal sex. This is what our society has become. Kids read the paper and is this what you guys want?
@AxisSalley that's a stereotype...just like people say all men are sexist and all they want is sex now. seeing the male rappers in society rapping about sex and drugs and women. but not all men are like that...be careful with stereotypes. you mention muslims in your other posts...there are plenty of stereotypes about muslims that i won't mention, because they're extremely disrespectful.
i saw this movie because im a big fan of paul alice;she's my idol and everytime i watch this part,i start crying, the music ,the events:it all fits like magic; such a beautiful movie about an amazing woman who we own a lot to,i just wish i was born in her time, too bad i'm only 15 now,but steel i hope that she will always be remembered,i dont think that she died in 1977,i dont think that she died at all , a legend never dies as long as her legacy is alive, and ALICE PAUL left one hell of a legacy.
This scene always makes me cry! When I watched this for my History Project, I cried my eyes out! For the History Fair, I did a play on this, and one of the male judges called it bioist. (Probably because I answered the questions a bit too strongly! *Sweat drop*) I just thought, back then men were bioist! >:C
I saw this movie a couple years back. In History class (Then later in Math class for some strange reason), and I loved this movie. I've been obsessed with this scene ever since because this song gives me the chills. See, I'm not a girl that cries a lot, especially in front of others. But when this song started, I was crying so hard that I had an asthma attack, and I ran out of the class room and punched the lockers. (I'm a very angry girl, and that's how I deal with things)

this is an incredibly amazing film, in so many ways. the actors are brilliant, the chemistry of the cast is so good and it is directed very well aswell. Inspiring story about women. Probably my favourite scene in the film.
I'm 15, a guy and when I saw this awhile back my hands were over my mouth when they dragged her out, and I was like "Oh shit what are they gonna do..." And is it just me, or does anybody else think the view of that chair is kind of disturbing??
my class watched this for ss and when i heard at first it sounded cool but wen we watched her throw up and get fed i passed out... up side was i got lots of hugs from my friends that are girls... but that was terrable
ugh i freaking hate this part watchd it in my civics class.....HECK NO!! man wtf! you dont do this idk why im sensitive to this... but its just the way it looks... and then i just had this done in a surgery except i wasn't being fed i was being examined.... i and my throat hurt like hell!!!.... but she is awake and getting this done and they fill her up thats horrible atleast i was sleep... :( makes me wanna cry. i wonder if they really had to do this in the movie... or was it fake... ???
I just saw this movie in history class, and I couldn't believe all the things those women went through to be able to get the right to vote. I'm so thankful to them, and will never miss an election when I can vote!
@1969JohnLennon1969 back then, most men were extreme sexists. that's what the women were fighting against, and why it took so long for women to gain their right to vote
Makes me cry, it's such a strong scene. And it actually happened to them... We, as women, should thank them every single day for the rights we have - if it weren't for their suffering, we wouldn't have anything.
Proud to be a woman, proud to be a female in this world!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There is no doubt that the status of women has changed dramatically in the last ninety years, since the passage of the 19th Amendment. I feel that most of this "advancement" has come at the expense of men and that my quality of life as a male has been significantly diminished as a result of the women's movement. Why? Because men have more responsibilities than women. Feminism addresses only the drawbacks of being a woman, but keeps the advantages. It is a grave threat.
Ouch. That must have hurt loads. Watch this whilst listening to "love is war" by miku hatsune- i think it really fits. God... I could kill those men who thought women were so weak back then...
See, they were real women right there! It's such a shame that there aren't many people left like that in general. If we had enough people like that these days we could change the world all over again.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
and its funny how girls have changed form being good house wives and good people to little spoiled bitches, that use there mans money for everything, threes only a few left that really appreciate a man, and that she should be appreciated, but you not one of them
society has not changed my views, education has taught me to be a good citizen and to treat everyone equally and i stick by the women here, you deserve the vote
But really please do not use that stereotype of men, i treat people in the right way no matter their race colour etc. It in a way hurts me that you can say that Note: i am not trying to start an argument, just simply getting my point across
im also a guy but i know that the world is full of scum , i would say about half of the guys at my school would do this is they got to do anything they wanted with a woman

Nicely shot, but a clear plastic tube for feeding in those days? Nope. I understand that they used it in the film to heighten the drama of the eggs sliding down it, but sorry, transparent plastic simply did not exist then.

so sad :( but thank you so much for all you went through to get women the right to vote
blackrose99izokai 1 year ago

@funyonrun07 Women need to go back where they belong, Kitchen, raising the kids and the bedroom. Thank God Muslim women still have some class and cover their bodies. Todays women are ho's and are more spreaders of disease then breeders like they should be.!!

@TheMarukio See what I mean no class. Women just don't behave like they use to and they should!
AxisSalley 1 year ago
@AxisSalley
this isn't about class. it's about how the women are treated. they have been treated like property. that is not what we are. we are human beings just like you men. and you know what you men don't have any class either! you guys cheat on woman like the scums you are! we are tired of it! we women want respect!
TheMarukio 1 year ago
@TheMarukio Who said I'm a man? Have you not read the most recent studies? Women are more likely to cheat on men. Women want all this equal rights and piss standing up, but with that chivalry dies. How many times do you see a women pumping gas in the cold while some loser sits in the car?
AxisSalley 1 year ago
@AxisSalley i suspected that you where.
to tell you the truth i actaully agree with you
TheMarukio 1 year ago
@AxisSalley You are right women don't behave like they used to, now they stand up for themselves, and people like you are the ones we have to stand up against. We will continue to stand up for our rights no matter what the cost. For centuries women have been abused by horrible husbands with no recourse. Now women everywhere in the United States have the same rights as men .. Go women's movement.
littlesnowcreek 1 year ago 4
@AxisSalley Yes because you would rather be told what to do by a man.... Good for you, but see most women today actually have a mind of their own.
lolaboox3 1 year ago 3
@AxisSalley you lousy excuse for a human being. learn your facts before you berate and degrade women.
xomandaa26xo 1 year ago
@xomandaa26xo What facts are you talking about? My local newspaper recently had a front page article talking about how women get off on anal sex. This is what our society has become. Kids read the paper and is this what you guys want?
AxisSalley 1 year ago

In this movie they portray all men as sexists. Which i think is very much sexist against men because that's not how all men were.
1969JohnLennon1969 1 year ago
@1969JohnLennon1969 back then, most men were extreme sexists. that's what the women were fighting against, and why it took so long for women to gain their right to vote

Horrible. Just horrible.
Makes me cry, it's such a strong scene. And it actually happened to them... We, as women, should thank them every single day for the rights we have - if it weren't for their suffering, we wouldn't have anything.

20th century history
society has not changed my views, education has taught me to be a good citizen and to treat everyone equally and i stick by the women here, you deserve the vote
But really please do not use that stereotype of men, i treat people in the right way no matter their race colour etc. It in a way hurts me that you can say that Note: i am not trying to start an argument, just simply getting my point across
