I was too young, but I remember my parents being absolutely devastated even though I couldn't possibly imagine something to the extent of 9/11 happening. I watched a man jump out of the Towers an t.v. and that's the most prominent part of the live footage to me. It scared me to see tht.
I was getting ready for school and just skipped through channels to see the temp outside and when I saw the tower in smoke and burning I actually thought it was a movie on and I just skipped it and then turned off the TV. Then at school they had a huge tv in the lunchroom and everyone gathered there to watch live coverage.
At work, everyone was gathered around a radio listening to what was going on.Then the Pentagon was hit. Then the United 93. As the day progressed, everyone in their cubicles had different radio stations on, and yelled out the latest speculation as to what would be hit next. Even though I was not in NYC, the sheer terror of not knowing what was next was just horrifying...was the world coming to an end? Which was EXACTLY what those bastards wanted...to shake everyone to the core.
I was watching the Early Show while I got ready for work. I heard them break from whatever they were talking about to let everyone know that a plane had crashed into the 1st tower. I recall being saddened about how many lives were probably lost as a result of a horrible accident. Then, as I was driving to work the radio intrupted to say that they OTHER tower just was hit with another plane....and remember chills going down my spine, as that sinking feeling hit that this was not an accident....

For those of us in Manhattan that day, we saw the best of humanity. Everyone seemed to be searching for a way to help others. It was amazing. In Manhattan, the effect lasted for quite a while.
Your sentiment about enjoying life reminds me that, as a nation, we have yet to create a tradition commemorating 9/11, and that saddens me. I didn't lose anyone. I was in my 7th grade social studies class when it happened. We turned on the TV and watched the 2nd plane hit the 2nd tower. I was too young to realize the impact the attacks would have on the US.

On 9/11 I was working in Cologne. The only remarkable i could mention, is that at this time I normally worked in Frankfurt, the (i think only) German town with many skyscrapers. (Because of that some call Frankfurt Mainhattan, because the river near Frankfurt is called Main.)
We were all shocked, and back in Frankfurt, in the Skyscraper we developed a dark humor. On cloudy weather we used to say something like this: "Bad flight weather."

I was 7, my birthday was on September 9th, we were about to celebrate it on the day it happened (11/9). Weirdly, I didn't remember anything of that day.
i was in 4th grade, and i remember my teach glued to her hand-held radio with her headphones on. she told us to try to get all of our homework done at school because our parents are going to have something very important to tell us when we get home. & i remember watching the footage on tv that night..i understood, yet i didn't. you know? i definately understand and feel more about it now that i have grown up. it is insane that i was alive when one of the biggest attacks on our country was made.

I remember the feeling of gratitude towards those everyday citizens turned heroes on the plane in PA. I long for the feeling of unity we in America experienced in the immediate aftermath. The reason for that unity and knowing, even in those moments, it wouldn't last made it bittersweet.

However when I got home I learned that a very good friend's of mines father, who had dropped us off at school just that morning, hadn't been found. A week later we learned he was found crushed beneath the rubble, but they said he had died from the smoke. To this day I can't stand thinking about how he had promised to take us for ice cream that evening when he got home from work.
I was only 11 back then. But a friend of mine was standing on the Brooklyn bridge and saw everything happen. She changed so much that day, never really turned back to the person she used to be before. It is still so extremely weird and horrifying every time she tells about it. I’m really sorry for all of those who lost someone. And I thank the ones who were trying to safe others.
I was seven years old, and they didn't say anything at school, since Philadelphia is close enough to New York that someone might have had a relative in the towers. My mom told me when I got home, and I didn't understand any of it, I didn't understand the magnitude of the situation, that thousands of people had died, or what a terrorist was. But now I do understand, and I can barely bring myself to watch the old footage, especially what you said, about the people jumping. It gives me chills.

i was still young-ish on 9/11 so i was playing with my sister in the living room when my mum and dad ran down stairs and turned on the TV, we were in montreal and they watched it live. all i remember was i thought it was a movie, watching the towers fall. i knew a man who died that day, in the restaurant. his children were devastated.

i was 11 years old, in the sixth grade. i was in class when my principal came on the intercom to tell us that the wtc went down so they cancelled school for the day. Later that night, i remember president bush made an emergency state of the union address and i broke down crying LOL! at first i had no idea what was going on until i saw him on tv. so yea that's my recollection of 9/11. and i hope you have a good day as well as everyday should be a good day :)

On 9/11 I was working in Cologne. The only remarkable i could mention, is that at this time I normally worked in Frankfurt, the (i think only) German town with many skyscrapers. (Because of that some call Frankfurt Mainhattan, because the river near Frankfurt is called Main.)
We were all shocked, and back in Frankfurt, in the Skyscraper we developed a dark humor. On cloudy weather we used to say something like this: "Bad flight weather."

The Pentagon being hit was just as shocking for me as the WTC. I live in VA, and it's something closer to home. I remember the feeling of gratitude towards those everyday citizens turned heroes on the plane in PA. I long for the feeling of unity we in America experienced in the immediate aftermath. The reason for that unity and knowing, even in those moments, it wouldn't last made it bittersweet.

I Was 6 When It Happened. My Mom Had Picked Me Up From School Early And Had The News Playing On The Radio. When I Had Found Out What Was Happening I Started Crying Because My Uncle Who Was Like A Dad To Me Was Working In There. I Remember My Mom Getting A Call From My Uncle And It Was Full Of Static But We Clearly Heard Him Say He Loves Us And Hes Going To Miss Us Then The Call Was Dropped. Minutes Later The Tower Fell. It Was Such A Horrid Day, There Was Dust Everywhere And Ill Never Forget It.

i was 6. and i dont know where i was that day. but maybe it was that day or a few years later i remember watching what happened on tv, and even tho i was very young (still am) all i could think was "what if it were me on that plane or in one of the towers? or what if i lost someone i love in the attack?" so i cant imagine how those people feel. i know what its like to lose a loved one, just not in that way.

But I have a friend who lost her Dad there he was buried in rubble, they had moved here to get away from the grief it was their way of dealing with it, they ave moved back now and every day at some point my thoughts go out to her and everyone else who either died there or lost somebody there, all of them are hero's in their on ways I totally agree with you and someday I hope to be as strong as all of them. <3 <3 <3

I was in second grade, we watched the towers fall but I didn't understand what was happening. However when I got home I learned that a very good friend's of mines father, who had dropped us off at school just that morning, hadn't been found. A week later we learned he was found crushed beneath the rubble, but they said he had died from the smoke. To this day I can't stand thinking about how he had promised to take us for ice cream that evening when he got home from work.

I was only 11 back then. But a friend of mine was standing on the Brooklyn bridge and saw everything happen. She changed so much that day, never really turned back to the person she used to be before. It is still so extremely weird and horrifying every time she tells about it. I’m really sorry for all of those who lost someone. And I thank the ones who were trying to safe others.

I was seven years old, and they didn't say anything at school, since Philadelphia is close enough to New York that someone might have had a relative in the towers. My mom told me when I got home, and I didn't understand any of it, I didn't understand the magnitude of the situation, that thousands of people had died, or what a terrorist was. But now I do understand, and I can barely bring myself to watch the old footage, especially what you said, about the people jumping. It gives me chills.
