Pity! Fastforward to 2009 and France would never have failed to qualify. The Israeli side celebrated the goal for about 2 minutes added to the official overtime of about 5 minutes. They would have had not less than additional 7 minutes which would have been enough for them to equalize. Go and ask Manchester United.

He was out of position on a lot plays and he stupidly kicks the ball to the middle of the field in injury time in a 2-2 game giving Israel possession to counter. Fantastic match. France needed 1 point from two matches to qualify for USA 94 and they lost both of them. They lost from Bulgaria with a goal in 90 mins. WE (bulgarians) went to the finals and we played in the semi-final... Huge thanx for Israel :)
we was very weak then its was our first year in europe i think. but we had a good players. ronie rosental was very good player in liverpool in that time,berkovich was a good player in enlgand a couple of years after that. played in manc city,portsmoth,saouthempton and other english teams. boni ginzburg was a keeper in rangers i think. and revivo played in celta in spain a couple of years after that.

Pity! Fastforward to 2009 and France would never have failed to qualify. The Israeli side celebrated the goal for about 2 minutes added to the official overtime of about 5 minutes. They would have had not less than additional 7 minutes which would have been enough for them to equalize. Go and ask Manchester United.

Great for Israel but cruel for France. France was the best team in Europe, they had the best squad. Sad they couldnt qualify because of last minute goal against bulgaria...Else they would have surely won the Cup next year...

They didn't have the best squad - quite how a team can be the best in Europe despite losing at home to Israel (bear in mind that was the only match in the entire campaign Israel won) and then Bulgaria, to finish THIRD in their group, I have no idea.
Besides, I'm not Brazilian, but Brazil had far and away the best team in the world at that point.

You have to remember however that they are competing in Europe, where there is a lot of competition and is very hard to qualify through there. If they qualified through Asia, they'd qualify for a lot more world cups.

This has to one of the biggest choke jobs in football history. One fucking point. You're playing Israel, up a goal with minutes to go, and you fucking lose the game? This is worse than the loss to Bulgaria.

Sure: at least Bulgaria did show some record in a World Cup. Israel's only appearance had been 20 yrs before, and their chances to appear in that one were already long gone: I remember this match so well, I couldn't believe that France could lose to Israel, in fact I could hardly believe "anyone" could lose to Israel.

It's funny that you say they seem to prefer African players after 1994. Watching these highlights showed me how bad Desailly was in this game. He was out of position on a lot plays and he stupidly kicks the ball to the middle of the field in injury time in a 2-2 game giving Israel possession to counter. He also gets outhussled on the game winning goal when the Israeli player gets his game winning cross toward the box. Who knew??.. a short Jew could outrace a tall black guy to the end line...haha

It appears to me that the French Football Federation would agree with your stereotype. The team has turned it's back on all it's Latin roots. I find it embarrassing for a Western European country to be represented in football by so many ethnic players who are not of French ancestry. Judging by the performance of their black players at Euro 2008, they don't appear to be the future of French football. All the upcoming players are Algerian like Zidane was, ie Benzema and Nasri. No Giuly or Mexes???

Fantastic match. France needed 1 point from two matches to qualify for USA 94 and they lost both of them. They lost from Bulgaria with a goal in 90 mins. WE (bulgarians) went to the finals and we played in the semi-final... Huge thanx for Israel :)

we was very weak then its was our first year in europe i think. but we had a good players. ronie rosental was very good player in liverpool in that time,berkovich was a good player in enlgand a couple of years after that. played in manc city,portsmoth,saouthempton and other english teams. boni ginzburg was a keeper in rangers i think. and revivo played in celta in spain a couple of years after that.
