I wait here, dead, at the Finish Line. I always knew it would be here, but I never thought about it. I want to close my eyes but my body is long gone. My eyelids shrivelled long ago and the flakes dissolved into mud and water. My hair could have been black, could have been gold, but it fell from my scalp in clumps and snarled on the shards of glass that litter the ground.
And my face… the eyes turned to liquid and trickled down paper cheeks, which tore, little by little, along each contour. And the bones melted into sand and scattered with the slightest gust of air. The sky is ink black and the ground is ash. Flesh sways like wind around me. The air is moist with relief. The trees float and curl. It doesn’t matter. All that matters is this: I was a man once.
I was once hot, cold, hungry, scared, happy, broken; everything a man could be. Now I am waiting, alone. I am dead, ready to fade like the white of a wedding dress. I will be forgotten. But before you forget me, hear my voice, be it a whistle that soars over cliffs or a hum that spreads through water. I have little blood left, but what remains I shall shed onto you.
@Carsonapolis I knew that there were others. I do not believe Radiohead just invents art for the purpose of creating art. I think this is what the feel. I think they have found this place, somewhere in their minds, like some unconscious existence that we are all overlooking. They are just showing us the way.
This song sort of feels like waking up to sunset. you feel groggy and your mind is cloudy and you don't quite know when and where you are, but everything is wonderful. waking up to a world where everything is wonderful. without thinking without needing to think. but to just be. and be happy.
@Sxvites thank you. i hate when people DEMAND thumbs up because they stumbled across a song watching tele. It's like, what do you want? A cookie? Get a grip
I just uploaded the earliest version of this song on my channel from 1995. I think i'm the only one to upload this version on youtube. It has the extra verse and some minor lyrical changes. Check it out! :D
If you like this song, check out The Moviegoer by Walker Percy (it's a book). This song could practically be about the book, but I'm pretty sure there is no direct connection.
My friend heard this song... says it wasn't even slightly sad... Didn't make him even slightly emotional... Lolwut? I almost cry every time I hear this song.
@mrsmorrisseyrio hahaha, great fucking song, use to love it. But yeah. Cant listen to it anymore. Kind of regret even coming here. Listening to this song now definitely makes me want to Blow my fucking face off.
how could anyone hate on this song??? this is one of their most beautiful, well thought-out songs.. Radiohead is and has been one of the best bands out there for the last 15 years
@CaptainPengu I know I know, everyone loves it, It just never did anyithing for me. I'm probably just ignorant, I don't dislike the song, it just never did much for me
@GeoMcEvan Doubt you're ignorant man, I think Thom himself (and possibly Jonny) said that they meant for the harps to be obnoxiously trilly and overdone (like a Disney film, I think they said.) Not sure if that's right though.
this is a example of genius, if you want to study something to increase your intelligence study readiohead, they say that mozart is supposed to make you more apt but try radiohead, they are finely and regally orchestrated with beautiful music..
i'm enojoying my life which including playing soccer, studying for the natural resources and english, and listening Radiohead. My friends asked me why I would like to listen depressing music? I asked them why you would not like to enjoy your depressing time too? And listening them is not only for depressing. their music is just beautiful for me too. thanks Radiohead
Radiohead to me, usually consists of a constant beat (usually drums) with different melodies layered on top...some melodies go on for a while, some drop out quickly, and some cover up other layers...but they're always amazing melodies.
This might make me unpopular but i wish he had done the whole track like the first verse with only vocals and the organ. I felt the effects and additional choir sound detracted from one of the most beautiful songs ever composed/performed. Still great though.
@vivisect86 Subscriptions - LadyGagaVEVO, shows a lot about you. If only more people could appreciate Radiohead instead of getting sucked into the absent-minded mainstream bullshit that exists today.
I listened to this song a lot after I got dumped. It just made me feel better. I don't know why. It also helps me sleep. Great tune. Thanks Radiohead.
To me, this is lyrically the most powerful radiohead song. I interpret it as a song about soulmates who for some tragic reason can never be together because something in this lifetime prevents true love from happening. The lovers hope to get another chance in their next life and promise to see each other then. But everytime there's alway something that prevents them from being together. It's the soundtrack to the most tragic motion picture ever,
Red wine and sleeping pills Help me get back to your arms Cheap sex and sad films Help me get where I belong I think you're crazy, maybe Stop sending letters Letters always get burnt It's not like the movies They fed us on little white lies I think you're crazy, maybe I will see you in the next life
This is one of the most powerful songs ever written. It instantly connects you with the deepest experience of pain and sorrow. Radiohead - nobody does it better, indeed...
I am having , bulletproof..I Wish I was, Motion picture soundtrack, the national anthem , planet telex, true love waits and house of cards at my funeral. After listening to that lot I can seriously rest in peace.
(Although Queen's- another one bites the dust might be a good idea!)
