The Best of Times is for me one of DT:s greatest songs, its so emotional in a lot of ways but its also a very beautiful and sad song at the same time. The instrumental middle section and the long guitar solo at the end of the song is just totally amazing. Its so epic and beatiful and it represents a lot of DT:s musical power as well. It goes straight into my heart every single time I hear it.

Poor Mike. I'm surprised he didn't cry or at least come close to tears during this interview. I probably would have if I were as torn up as he appeared to be. This goes to show that the death of a parent can still really hurt a person even when they're a full-grown, fully mature adult. I'm glad he was at least able to say goodbye the way he wanted to.

On a lighter note, I like how he's grown his hair out. He had that mullet thing going for a while but it looks a lot better now.

Dear Mike: When I discovered Dream Theater, the first song I was ever drawn to was Octavarium. I heard its album all the way through, and within a few listens, I was convinced no song could ever top it, even a DT or Opeth song. The Best of Times, though, makes you forget those.
