dude help me!, my laptop overheats very quickly, i have same as urs, with 1.5 gb graphics, whenever i turn on crysis 2 , my temperatures raise to 95-100 instantly,it used to run cool before, but now even at lowest crysis 2 lags like hell, plz suggest something?
@hunterhearsthelmsy Crysis is a demanding game, but temps like that may be from the crappy thermal paste that Dell puts on the chips. Also, with the newer BIOS, in order to reduce fan noise they are making the system run hotter before the fan kicks in. That is problematic. If you've got the new BIOS, such as A08. Better to flash back to A05 or something. Now if your game lags there is a real issue. make sure you are running it with the gpu (Right click and run with nvidia processor) then tell me
@asulikit11 Runs battlefield with textures on Ultra, and everything else on medium, About 30-40 Fps. I have not run Max payne 3, or GTA. But I have confidence it can run Max Payne without issue. And GTA 5 I have no idea. The game has not been released yet.
@blackhawk438 here's the whole story, when i got my m14x it was great, i could play crysis on very high and max resolution, and most of game ran cool and with almost max settings, but after a few months my laptop started showing some overheating problems, it wasnt a big issue then, but then every game started to lag, my temperatures were about 90-100 on average, since then it is all messed up, i will try BIOS A05 and tell u,and dude did u got alienware respawn or command centre disc with ur m14x?
@hunterhearsthelmsy Alienware Respawn I get with the Command Center, and it is not on the disk. But you can download it from their website. Go to dell and enter your service number at the support section. Then it should give you a list of drivers, and applications you get with your Alienware when it was shipped. The problem with the heat is something new to me, you can ask for help in the Alienware M14x forums. I'll send you a link. They solved my driver problems.
@blackhawk438 thx a lot bro, i will try the link, and this heating problem is becoming common among long term users, its common on internet, hope ur lappy works good , best of luck with it.
hi mate i would like to know if this laptop is gettin hot after playing games for a long period of time (1,2 hours of Call of duty,Battlefield 3 ...etc).How the FANS are ??? at the moment i have an XPS which is fantastic but the problem it is gettin hot after i play 30 min of FIFA 12 for example.Thank's
@popkaheretosaveyou No, it does not. I have played 5-4 hours of Battlefield and Skyrim. I get no overheat, and no hot temps. I run on a notebook cooling pad, and my room usually has a decent AC on. But it stays on low temps. Outside the AC and in the heat of summer it can go up to an estimated 90, but when your out and gaming like that. Its usually to hot to play. (My hands sweat a decent amount) And I will not touch the laptop if I get really sweaty.
i realy found this review helpful man, i`m going to buy a m14x & i have a few questions... i know u kinda talked about the temp of the laptop but again, did you have any over heating problems? & how is the average temp, and noise ? I`ve also heard there might be keyboard problems of some kind.. is that true? & do you think i would have any disadvantage/problems using it for college?
@akil430 I do get heating problems sometimes, once actually when I brought it to a friends house. But he had no AC and it was the end of summer. The laptop got really hot and I had no crashes or anything but I closed all my games down anyway because it was really distracting. The avg temperature's are about 50 when idle and then go up to 95 when gaming. At least at my friends house where I recorded temps. Only keyboard problem is the Shift key is squeaky, I think this a good laptop so far.
How does it run when linked to a full hd acl TV? I want to get this one because I find the m17x too big, and i'd move with it 4-5 times a week. I'd really appreciate if you could enlight me a little on if it runs well on a bigger (37"+) full HD display!!
@bababaloona Never hooked it up to a big tv before. I have one in my living room I suppose I could try on. But as I have the 3Gb GT555m, it may be a bit easier to run it on a bigger screen. I don't think they sell the 3Gb anymore
@ImRyozanpaku Like I've told people before. It completely depends what you want to do with yours. Want a laptop that can play minecraft and perform great? Well, then get a Macbook. Want a laptop that can play games far more demanding then minecraft? (And still performs great) Get an Alienware. But any Windows running laptop needs care.So if your going to be too busy to clean and maintain your system I would not advise Windows. Windows is more advanced I'd say than OS-Lion in that certain way.
@bassax7045 Looked up the Simulator and it looks neat. I used to fly FSX so I'm interested. Not sure how my M14x would handle it. I'm surprised your Laptop can run Crysis 2 at ultra settings though. Is it 14 inches? Or a little bigger?
@MrGamerAsian Meh....hard to say. I used to have a 17' Toshiba. I liked the screen but it was nearly impossible to move with. I think it might be a tad on the small size. But you get used to it quickly and its real nice otherwise. For me, its maybe a little small. I carry it around every 3 days or so so I can't have it too big. But you can always hook it up to another monitor and get a keyboard. (Although that defeats the purpose). Its still easily good for gaming though. I forget about size the
I am doing a lot of research before i purchase and this laptop was my first choice. I am in college and I like to use adobe light room and edit videos. And some gaming. I just love the alien fx features on this laptop and I love power. Do you think this is the laptop I should go for? I think I have my mind set I just wanted some opinions
@loungo1567 Go for it, I use it to upload videos too, and its just as good as my desktop. Gaming is great as well. I would recommend it. Just be sure to get a good warranty. I've had it for 7 months and I've got no problems except for a couple blue screens by some software incompatibility. Otherwise Its awesome
i want a lighter laptop that can run minecraft easily and give me what i need fir basic web browsing and school work, i have a 1200 price range and im debating between this and a macbook pro but i just want the computer to easily run minecraft And be decently light, this seems to heavy to meet my needs, any suggestion between the two?
@27nlittleman If all your going to run is Minecraft And then only do school work. I might say that this laptop is a bit too overkill for that. A mac might be a better option for your needs. I play games, and do school work. But since I play high end games this laptop suits me fine. I also enjoy the firepower it wields. Its on heck of a powerhorse. But if your not going to need one. Don't buy one. I'm no Mac lover, I just want to give you the best recommendations I can
@blackhawk438 But their so cool! thanks for the response. So if your not a mac lover, and im not that much either, but i do have a lot of apple products, and im kind of looking to get more into windows, and i dont need all that power you were talking about, which i agree with. What windows running laptop do u suggest, cheaper than the alienware and mac?
@27nlittleman Well..their are lots of them. We're now talking about general laptops. I'm sure there are a lot of decent ones. I can't think of many, once I got this last summer, I stopped looking into laptops. I know Samsung has a good line, MSI (Makes gaming laptops) sells for a little cheaper than Alienware. But I can't really say. I'd like to warn you though that when you get a Windows running laptop. You have to take care of the OS, people complain its gets slow, cause they never clean it.
heyy, have u had the same problem with dust and crap getting stuck in the mesh thing that goes across the power button? do u know how to clean that? its starting to piss me off..
@PR0bro Yeah it leaves little dots of dust in the grill like surface. I usually take a semi damp cloth and sort of clean the area with it. Pressing a good bit too. It does an Ok job

Hey man! Planning to replace my Dell Inspiron 15R with the m14x. What about CPU, HDD and VGA chip temps? I live in Greece and summer really gets hot here. My 15R hit 52 degrees C in HDD during July.
@Kujokouklos Since I run it in an air conditioned environment. I can't exactly say what the temps are reliably. But I'll take it out and try it there. (It is summer here) and we'll find out!
@blackhawk438 Thanks man really appreciate your fast reply. Keep looking for this machine as I need a gaming laptop on the go. Keep hearing a lot about overheating issues.
@Kujokouklos About heat. Since I run this system in an Air conditioned environment I usually have no problem with heat. I've played in summer weather, games like minecraft for extended periods of time and very little with high performance games. I suppose I have not really noticed much of a heat increase. I'll be taking it out tomorrow and I'll do some tests. But I'll get a CPU temp reading program and state the results. When it comes to gaming laptops though, heat is always the issue
@blackhawk438 I've tested it in heat a bit, but for some reason GPU-Z, the software that tells you about your GPU keeps crashing. Ill give you results I gaurentee that. Just let me download another program and try it
thanks a lot for video, really great to know how the laptop is doing after 6 months.
Also I got a new gaming Lenovo Ideapad Y460, well iv had it a year now. I havent goton any critical errors for a few months, but in the year I had it I did have a few. Did you have any critical errors? It happens, I dont think it has anything to do specifically with alienware.
@notebookplayer By critical errors, do you mean BSOD's. Or stop errors? Yes. A Blue Screen of Death has NOTHING to do with Alienware. Any PC can have them. Improperly written drivers cause these errors. Because they write their data into memory that they do not own. So when the driver that owns that piece of memory tries to read its data. It makes no sense. This causes an exception, and when you try and access the device, a Non maskable interruption occurs. Like my mouse software. A good example
