Convenience store Onigiri? Interesting. I've only ever made them at home. Onigiri are supposed to have the nori on them be moist. Well, if you like that, then try noriben.
I haven't tried Ice Cucumber Pepsi but I did have the Azuki flavored one (which I found pleasant enough, despite not really liking soda in the first place).
I also love nattou, funny I had just eaten some before watching this video. Usually I just go the non-fancy route and eat it plain as well... although sometimes I like to put it on things. I had it on a slice of bread a couple days ago and thought the combination wasn't too bad.
Not sure I would like the Ice Cucumber Pepsi, but I'd try it for argument's sake. The natto... umm.. I've tried it by itself. It didn't kill me, but I wasn't very fond of it. I thought it was horrible, but I have 2 other containers, so I'll give it another shot over rice. The Onigiri looks delicious! I want one!
I tried natto once. Just plain natto in a bowl. I didn't hate it, but I didn't care much for it either. I'd be willing to try it again, as part of a dish (with rice, as part of an onigiri, with egg, etc.).
I don't care for mayonnaise much myself, except with tuna. I always keep some mayo around for tuna. Thus, I'm sure I'd like tuna/mayo onigiri. My local Asian market might have onigiri; I'll have to check.
you should also add the fact that onigiri has such special packaging is to keep the moisture from the rice off of the seaweed so it would give you that "crunch"
Are you just studying abroad in Japan? I'd love to do that, it's my life's dream to go to Japan. I'm planning on taking Japanese in college next year.
my mom is half japanese and she used to make onigiris for me almost everyday when i was a kid XP i like the onigiris with packaging better cause the nori doesnt get soggy,i tried making onigiri today.... i failed XD
Natto is very nutritious and yes, its gross looking and hated by most foreigners but the nutrition value is high. You just drop it over rice, add some scallions, and a teaspoon or drops of soy sauce. :D
If you know how to use the subways, it is very easy to get around. Restaurants are excellent, but you should always look around before choosing; often the easiest to find are the most expensive, and the harder, cheaper places are often much better. Uh, the toys? They seem cool, I guess. Lots of people like them; I don't pay much attention to them. And no, there's not a lot of crime. It isn't non-existent, but for such a big city there is a very low amount.
Tokyo is great. It can be difficult as a foreigner, but if it were too bad we wouldn't stay! The people are generally friendly, though you do meet the occasional person who hates all foreigners. I do make friends, and many Japanese really want to meet more foreign people. Yes, quite a few are racist, but that's how it is in any country. The girls are very beautiful, though I'm not too interested in them. I get along pretty well, though would like to find a job other than teaching English!!
That's true ... sometimes I mix the natto with just a little bit of the mustard that comes with it. It tastes really good compared to the plain original taste.
i live in japan...i only saw that once at family mart....it was the nastiest shit ever!!!!!!! it tasted like u were drinking gum or something...i havent sene ever since
Other than someone living in Japan, are there any other ways of getting to try the new Pepsi Ice Cucumber? I am really interested in trying the new Pepsi.
Oh! I didn't know it was last year that this new Pepsi was being offered. I'm going to cry. :'( I guess it's no longer around now. I thought that Pepsi was still new. Oh well, thx for answering.
Yeah, they have onigiri in any convenience store (or conbini, as they call them). Conbinis are very nice, and contain a nice variety of food and goods.
The reason why you get the crunch is because of how they packaged it. which is a great innovation in my book to speak. The tuna and mayo is also my fav. I'm not sure abour the new Pepsi, though.
ROFL when you said "except one girl" I began laughing because I know I would have liked that pepsi (and I'm a girl)...I tend to like anything that tastes weird. Never tried natto...looks gross...I WOULD SO TOTALLY TRY IT!! I have yet to try nori...how does it taste? My sister hates it. Most likely I would love it. Is it your camera that makes everything look backwards? You're very cute....and your voice is soothing....I know that all sounds weird. Well take care and much love.
Nori, nori...hmmm...I don't know how to describe the taste. There are also so many different ways to prepare it. I love it, but I know a few people who can't stand it. Yeah, my camera is on mirror rather than, um...not mirror?? Don't worry about comments; many people tell me I have a good voice, and everyone here tells me I'm cute...Ah well.
Aw, where is your school? Our's is a bit expensive, but because of that it is pretty good. I love the mix of countries. It's interesting, for I'm the only native English speaker in my class!!
lol nice video that was awsome i too also hope to go to japan one day and try there food and culture and stuff ( and i love there technology) hope youll have some more cool stuff on the things over there for me to check out. P.S. i founda oriental store that sells the supplies so i hope to make my own onigiri soon!
Ooo, good luck with making onigiri! I've never been brave enough to try. I also don't have a rice cooker...I'll eventually get more info videos rather than 'blabber about nothing' videos!
Cool plan. It's great over here for a lot of people. If you haven't visited, I would suggest you make a little trip to see it first-hand. That will either show you how much you love it, or show you that perhaps you don't want to move here. I love it, personally!
Hope you are able to sometime. If you are open minded about natto, there's a good chance you will like it. Most people are just so put off by the look and the smell (there is a bit of an odor, but I don't find it overpowering) that they don't even try it!
Yeah, seaweed does have a taste, though I'm not sure how to describe it. I usually think it is pretty good (there are different types), but some people really don't like it.
I don't even think it's available anymore. I've talked to a few friends here in Tokyo about it, and many here have never even heard of it, so it was quite short-lived.
whahah yeah then i probably saw you that day in the ueno park looking at the dude with the knives and the apple .. only i wasnt really sure it was you XD whaha .. btw i tried some of the onigiri but the packages where so confusing and i ended up with some pretty nasty stuff whahha
Wow, that's so funny! Yes, I was with two friends watching the guy with the knives; it made me a little nervous! And sorry to hear about your bad onigiri experience!! If you get a good one, they are the best snack.
i put a fried egg on top of the rice and top that with natto. you might like it even better that way. the flavor might grow on you too. so glad you like Japanese food and don't have a lot of prejudices. many americans come to japan with their minds made up about what they WON'T eat. that's their loss! do the convenience stores still sell oden all year long? used to be we could get it only in winter. cheers!
I believe I would like that natto dish; a friend and I both really like natto omelettes! Yes, the conbinis still sell oden all year long, though it often depends on the conbini. They are selling it right now in some, when it is unbearably hot!
I think I did, actaully; I was there with two other guys a couple Saturdays ago, though I can't recall the exact date...Are you thinking you saw me there?
i found your vid after reading an article about cucumber pepsi from businessweek. guess that pepsi became really popular since all 4.8 million bottles have sold out. probably due to the japanese fad mentality. doubt anyone would buy this in the states.
1. Yes, I do live in Japan. I'm in Tokyo, so all food is very fresh.
2. I can't be exactly sure from your description, but I'm going to guess that you are asking about gyudon. Gyudon (or any of the other donburi dishes) is served in a bowl of rice, with the beef and onions on top. Very good; one of my favorite dishes. Is that what you're thinking about?
