  • Two pianos is hard. But a thing that would've been really hard. Playing 2 pianos using both hands and feet..

  • This only hinders your ability to play the piece to your potential. Nor does this add any extra set of notes. They are the same on both the pianos. You are you not too proficient at doing this, nor is this the hardest piece ever written! I have seen your educational videos, and you look a humble pianist, but very unfortunately this video looks nothing else but show off.

  • Josh Wright, u are awesome.. keep going !

  • Well he's good but I would never call it one of the hardest pieces. I've seen Lang Lang do much better with just one...

  • Well, this vid is not exactly like I thought it would be. I was expecting two pianos placed so they oppose each other....like that other 'two piano' video (at the music school, or wherever). Placing one piano merely diagonal to the other puts both pianos still on the same basic linear plane. Two pianos opposing each other makes them opposite...MUCH harder.

Here's what I'd like to see: Two pianos opposing each other, playing either two totally different complex songs. THAT would be difficult.

  • It's like taking a shower in one house, then going to neighbour's house to shave, return to the first house to dress up, and go back to neighbour's house to comb your hair. Just adds unnecesary difficulty which contributes nothing to the task itself

  • Wow I almost fell of my chair ,I cant even play on one piano wow and ur playing two omg u could be the next Beethoven

  • aaawesooome!!! Even kooler cuz ur still young.lol. unless they were in two other keys, then i do not see the point. but daum very talented. i could prolly not use all 4 limbs coordinately. nooiice

  • Nice. But why?

  • When the bells hat to complete the performance? <_<

  • And now to play the RH part with the LH and the LH part with the RH

  • Jealousy has nothing to do with it. I just don't see the point in doing this, it adds or removes nothing from the piece, except for moving the body a lot. Sorry.

  • @lovemypiano111 It makes it more creative, who else did this?

  • Ever watched Victor Borge's Piano Tuning skit?

  • It sounds... clearer? I don't really know how to describe it, and I'm probably just imagining it. But perhaps the left and right hand being separated allow the strings to vibrate without the mixed harmonics of the higher and lower hands interfering? Either way, awesome. Looks cool.

  • He plays nice but... these is completely absurd. Next time someone will learn it with crossed arms...

  • Next mission... 2 pianos... 1 hand...

  • because this song is based on the idea of a DANCE, i think it was a beauitful interpretation to play on two pianos, just like two people would be dancing.

great job. one of my favorite pieces.

  • Amazing!!!! Can't wait to see him live!!(:

  • He is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He essentially plays the same thing but with a lot more bodily discomfort ;-) He is cute though. Credit for trying something new, although it makes no sense.

  • Great! Only pity is, that its not a stereo recording; it would have been interesting to hear the 2 pinos at their different locations.

What i found especially interesting with the idea of playing 2 pianos is that the overtones should be different, it should make a difference in resonance

  • um........... whats the point???

  • Seriously in the beginning when it said One of the Hardest pieces ever written... Just got twice as harder I expected like some fake-out thing but this work is amazing!

  • And this is supposed to impress? Keith Emerson did this type of dual keyboard playing in the '70s [actually much more difficult] as did many other multi-keyboardists of that era. But...What's the point anyway in playing this piece with two pianos?-- Could have been done on a single piano and sound / results the exact same. Nice visual effect but, so would have smoke coming out of the harp or dry-ice oosing out from the bottom. Good playing though.

  • Sense?

  • @Tastenshakespeare No(n)sense.

  • impressive but i don't really like his interpretation.

    just my opinion though.

  • What is the point of this?

  • Wait, can't he just play the same song but on one piano?

  • how does he manage to play with both of the pedals ? :O

  • The music biz is curious indeed. Artists have to have a niche to promote themselves, especially in a sea of pianists who can play this work on one piano. Concert organists play multiple keyboards simultaneously and pedals with their feet, so this particular effort of playing two pianos, while yes it does take some serious multitasking abilities, is really nothing new. Is it really about the music, or is it just about showing off? No offense to Mr. Wright intended. Good luck with your career.

  • it sounds incredibly clear!

  • La Campanella is one of the hardest pieces written. Too bad everyone can play it lol. Liszt should of stepped it up on his composing!

  • wow this is just.. crazy

  • It's an interesting idea to play it on two pianos. I don't think it adds that much, but give him credit for doing something new and different. My only real beef is that he has to drop notes in the left hand at the end.

  • @JazzAce340 Thanks 4 that; I noticed just after I hit enter.

  • so this is a song he wrote? excuse my ignorance please

  • ok, so who built the Pianos ??

  • the fact he can play this difficult piece might be amazing, but what does he need an extra piano for, i don't get it . . .? showing off? o:

  • @Myrskism I agree, it seems like much of the piece could be done on a single piano. The only thing I could think of is using different pedaling on each piano.

  • @Myrskism lol Great!!!

  • Beautiful

  • I can't pedal the damper pedal with my left foot.

  • At least there's no finger interlocking problems.

  • Congrats on hitting #1 on the Billboard charts Josh! Keep being awesome!

  • I'm a big fan of Josh Wright I would love to have the CD because I love the music he plays and I love Piano I been playing since I was 6 but It would be awesome if I got a CD he's my inspiration and I would love to be like him someday thanks!!! :)

  • I heard Josh Play at womens conference it was soo awesome I really enjoyed it and would love to be able to listen to him at night before I go to sleep every night, I love to listen to instrumentals and improve my 11 childrens music listening abilities :)

    Kila

  • Amazing job! Such a fun performer too! It is wonderful to watch him in person! I want to win his CD because it would be a GREAT addition to my music collection.

  • I loved hearing Josh play at Women's Conference! Would love to give this CD to my amazing daughter who loves to play the piano! Thanks!

  • I love the last ending part that was really fast

  • That was ridiculously awesome, cool, & amazing! Thanks Josh, that truly made my day! I loved it! Keep it up bro!

  • Yeah, it's really impressive, but it's gimmicky. What's the point other than to show off chops? If each piano were offering something different, maybe this would work better.

  • @josephcenter

It's a way to make a good performance of La Campanella (good but not mind-blowing) interesting. It is very gimmicky.

  • That is amazing!! I can't play one at one time much less two. You have definitely been blessed with a wonderful talent!!!

  • My little bro is your fan .... already with his 8 months : ')

  • I don't get it. This whole thing seems redundant and gimmicky. He is still using "ONLY" two hands. Isn't that how you are supposed to use a normal SINGLE piano? I supposed the extra foot pedals might make a little difference but is it enough of one to justify an ENTIRE extra piano? (He did an excellent job with the piece, BTW)

  • @stehedman Because one hand is always in the blind, let alone having to jump spaces at the same time. Very Difficult piece combined with having to do it like this is unbelievable.

  • Why play it on just one $180,000 dollar piano when you can play it on two $180,000 pianos!!! Great Performance.

  • That was tidally awesome. Wow!!!!

  • that is fricken BEAST! you are awesome. And for all you haters out there, commenting on this video, save you're hate for something dumb.

  • @EnosEugenius Oh, he's just a showy guy.... gotta let him have his moment :)

  • Incredible Josh. Keep it up.

  • Why .. ehm does he play it on two pianos? Is it because of some eh.. incompatibilities with sustaining certain notes or something?

  • @slackdave It just looks cool. That's why lol.

  • Super Duper♪

  • wow ... beautiful ...

  • @jre58591- I'm not normally one to say much, but your comment was so rude. I checked your channel out and I couldn't find ONE of your own recordings. I suggest that you start showing others that you can actually play before bashing on someone else. Maybe you do play well, but until you are considered a pianist like Zimmerman, Perahia, or Argerich, please keep it to yourself. Mr. Wright is a fabulous pianist and an amazing person. Sad to see a fellow "pianist" put down to make himself look good..

  • So this guy thinks that because he is probably the ten thousandth person to record the repertoire he has recorded that he should throw in this STUPID gimmick of him playing two pianos at once? The only way someone can impress on two pianos at once is if they do both parts Steve Reich's Piano Phase (youtube it). Sorry, Josh Wright, you are only impressing those who are stupid enough to know how pointless this gimmick is.

  • look, you would be fascinated to learn exactly how hard this piece is. and, it seems to me, that while it is somewhat pointless to play it on two pianos, it is entertaining and that is what it is for. and on top of that the actual recording sounds great. you should just relax and accept it.

  • @1jwhiz I actually know how difficult this piece is, as a concert pianist myself (and as my channel would verify). I guess it is good for purely entertainment value, but there is no artistic value.

  • you are right. there is little artistic value. it just seems a little harsh to call it stupid gimmick.

  • @Vesivian it's obviously an advertisement. No time for the full version. I am sure he plays it all live. I have heard other videos by him

  • Dudes, what is this... a bash session? I don't understand why some people have to find SOMETHING wrong and to put someone down. Jealous much?

@TwitchellW- I agree. It's so hard to play this piece even with one piano. The coda is ridiculous. Yes, he may be playing on one piano in the opening, but the ending is ridiculously hard to keep accurate because of the leaps in the LH. Of course you would have to look at your hands! Some of these comments must come from some do not actually play the piano

  • @lovemesomepiano Actually i would prefer if he played it on ONE piano, but don't reduce notes on the last leaps (the G#-D#-G#-D# octaves, where he only plays G#-D#-D#).

  • playing on 2 pianos doesnt make it any harder. also, he plays at one piano for half of the time, and he turns his head from one piano to the other - pro piano players shouldnt have to look at the hands to know wat their playing. but its pretty cool to play on 2 grand pianos at once though.....

  • I guess the fact he can play La Campanella at all is impressive... But this is just a gimmick. Looks cool though.

  • Methinks that I do not like this version of the song. He is just showing off the fact that he can play two pianos at the same time.

  • and when it gets just a bit harder, he changes to one piano... man... just practice!

  • well, it's cool that he's playing on 2 pianos, but it's absolutely useless. Its exactly the same piece as 1 piano. I guess i can admire 2 steinway pianos instead of one.

  • @araujo1- This is definitely an advertisement and an awesome one!! I also think it's "cool"- might get a little more publicity from people who don't actually play because it is very different

@flagella1337- Two pianos + Hard Piece = Twice as Hard- It is already extremely hard to play this piece well on ONE piano let alone two

  • absolutely amazing!

  • @flagella1337

    You should try it then...

  • Show michael angelo batio

  • wow how wonderful he is, uses grand piano and concert grand piano of steinway and sons, it's so quite awesome!

  • Absolutely stunning performance and the song itself is beautiful. I can't stop listening to this!

  • Josh, you are amazing. nuff said!

  • Thank you so much for the info! I look forward to buying the album! In which stores will it be sold?

  • Go Josh!

  • how am I supposed to say, oh God you're amazing Josh!

keep going and I'm so proud have a friend like you, Jesus loves and bless you!

  • amazing ... really i cant even handle one piano ... lolz... well this kind of talent is God gifted...

  • This is epic. Wow.

  • Awesome.

  • Standing ovation !!!

  • This is amazing! I can't believe how cool this is. The performance is awesome, and so is the camera work! Is this on your new CD?

  • @TwitchellW,

This song, as well as many other impressive songs are available on Josh's new album coming out on April 5. You can preorder it at the link found in the description of the video.

  • WOW! Amazing talent and focus! This ought to inspire every piano student to keep practicing :)
