This is great, but listen to his later stuff, the way his vocals evolved to a very bluesy growl. He was getting better with age right up to his death. If he were still alive, he would be acclaimed as one of the great bluesmen of our generation. What I miss most about John Campbell is what we never got to hear.
Thanks for these. I just found them here after checking for info on John. Used to go see him at Monsoon in NYC, after having seen him play while he worked at Matt Umanov's selling guitars.
I knew John when he started out at the Crossroads in NYC...I just 'Knew' he would be famous...when I told him that..he just humbly 'aw shucked' me off in that sweet way he had. :) He was amazing then and became more awesome over time.I saw him backstage at a concert in NYC b4 he was to go on tour in Europe..not knowing I wld never see him again. He was scheduled to open for BB King upon his return...and all I remember was walking home thru the park crying.I will never forget u, JC..:)
Well I liked the place itself as well I'd go there or the Kettle of Fish a lot and hang with Paul Butterfield who I knew a long time, that's when I met John there even played some harp with him on guitar just goofin around as I always had a harp with me or even 2...But also I was after that cut little blond bartender from New Zealand that worked there to be honest..LOL..!
ye i unno if u play guitar but i do nd no soul lmao the guyz playin some of the most amazing blues guitar i have ever heard hes brilliant nd u can see all the emotion in his face nd enjoyment nd has is eyes closed for parts just feelin it soo i unno wut ur tlkin bout bud
Thank you Louisiana for posting this footage, this is really great and will keep the memory of the brilliant John Campbell alive for many people all over the world.
