  • Funny till the shooting bit. odd dark humor these days.

  • Too funny..

  • SHAG HER TELL!

  • "You're such a prick"

  • Simon Pegg is too funny!

  • Peter Serafinowicz's Wogan impression is amazing. If you just listen to the audio, you'd swear it was him.

  • what year was this does anyone know?

  • @MiszP2010 1981 :)

  • @ksbnr1 1981?! Are you sure? Do you mean 1991? It's just that Martin Freeman would have been 10 years old if it was 1981 lol! Either way this has to be the oldest video I've seen of him, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg!

  • @MiszP2010 Lol yeh, just realised that xD - this vid was posted on my facebook and the actual video description seemed to show a different video description or something :/ dunno, confused me though but this vid is from 2003 Comic Relief :)

  • @ksbnr1 lol 2003 makes a lot more sense haha :)

  • Fantastic!

  • This is eczemament

  • I always though the second series of Look Around You was terribly underappreciated. The early eighties in the UK were deeply, deeply weird....the country was coming apart at the seams and the mainstream media always gave you this numbingly normative. The bit I love here is the Freddie Starr character saying "Mr Grimsdale". Yup....Freddie Starr was THAT subversive.

  • I love Freeman's Rotten performance. "this is so shit" hahahaha "No-one sings like that"

  • now, that's just silly

  • The accidental insincerity of "I hope so too" still does it for me, I think everyone should watch this, a masterclass in comedy. I suspect our American friends below are judging the performances on the "audience" reaction; it's deliberately mute at times to aid the progression... I love the way that everyone perfectly understands Rushton's contributions. Encore!

  • Oh mate. Some of Britain's best contemporary comedians and that just didn't cut it.

  • best thing on youtube

  • oh lord the hair

  • Willie Rushton - Nick Frost

    Sue Pollard - Matt Lucas

    Jonny Rotten - Martin Freeman

    Ruth Maddoc - David Walliams

    Freddie Starr - Simon Pegg

    Liza Tarbuck - Sarah Alexander

And Sir Terry Wogan is played by Peter Serefinowicz, who is either married or engaged to Sarah Alexander.

Only Rory Bremner does a better Wogan impression...

  • @coastlinersmithy Kevin Eldon is also playing the male contestant (not sure who's playing the woman who reveals herself to be a Greenham lesbian). And you meant Liza Goddard, not Tarbuck.

  • Pretty good impressions of Rotten and Freddie Starr's acts by Martin Freeman (the new Arthur Dent) and Simon Pegg. Peter Serafinowicz does a great Wogan and the little reminder of those Greenham Common Wimmin makes me glad to be out of the stifling political climate that was 1980s showbiz.

  • This is embarrassingly unfunny. The only interesting part came courtesy of Simon Pegg.

  • I love the mockery! LOL!

  • Greta Wogan impression!

  • This is the sketch that just keeps on giving - on rewatching for the 0000th time I just love the sublime "I hope so too" from Terry and the delivery of Terry's "Reggae" when it's revealed as if - "of course! We all forgot that" - eczamallent stuff!

  • Goodness me, still after all these years, doesn't this remain the funniest thing in the world?

  • Eczemallent

  • Yellow Reggae??!!!

I love the way Eldon says that. He's saying what we're all thinking.

  • lol!!! all blanks except for lisa goddard- she's still dead at the end when the others have got back up

  • Achingly funny depiction of the Beeb's shoestring budget days. They dont make 'em like that anymore. The real show was as cringe making as its prizes! Can anyone tell me who's playing Mr Lydon?

  • It's Martin Freeman. Tim from the office.

  • dunno why I didn't spot that - cheers mate!

  • That wogan impersonation is smack on!!!

and matt lucas as su pollard is just uncanny

  • genuis :) yeah I know :)

  • Oh yeah, and Paul Putner from 'Little Britain' as the chauffeur.

  • when simon pegg wasnt a film star and had to stoop 'lowly comedy'. = sarcasm by the way

  • This isn't very funny, which is a shame cus it almost could be hillarious!!! Good cast and the dude impersonating terry is perfect!

  • Absolutely love this! Funniest thing I've seen in ages. Thanks for uploading!

  • kevin eldon looks weirdly like David Morrissey's character in Red Riding.

  • 100 Golf Balls!! LMFAO!

  • ...don't commit suicide...' !

  • wankety wank

  • I think that's what everyone secretly said under their breath when the original show came on

  • I had no idea the Little Britain chaps were famous back then!

  • Why didn't they do Kenny Everett

  • Sarah Alexander....Mmmmmmm....

  • So we've got Nick Frost, Matt Lucas, Marton Freeman, David Waliams, Simon Pegg, Sarah Alexander, Peter Serfanowisz (spelling?) and Kevin Eldon as the male contestant, but who's the female contestant?

  • Sarah Alexander

  • Hard to tell, but I've got a feeling it's Morwena Banks!

  • It's the actress Sarah Alexander ;)

  • Just checked on Wiki, and apparently it's Stirling Gallacher from "Doctors" and The Office. A bit out of place amongst a bunch of fab comedians!

  • This sketch would never even aired if this it was for america. I cant believe such a dark comedy would be charity lol. It was hilarious in a sick way

  • I've actually come across an american who really thought this was a genuine clip from Blankety Blank!

  • goddamn, did they see the last minute of it, and come on did they not notice david walliams

  • It beggars belief doesn't it? But it's true

  • ive actually come across an american

  • I cant apologise for it! Seriously though the person blogged this as a genuine example of Blankety Blank

  • Genius!

  • Interesting fact... The guys who plays Terry Wogan here (great impression by the way!) was the voice of Darth Maul in Star Wars: Phantom Menace...

  • Interesting for those 1% of people who have been watching this who haven't ever watched S.P.A.C.E.D!

  • @Triumph1050cc now i didnt know that

  • That's an awesome Wogan impression...

  • Eldon's face when "reggae" is revealed is fucking priceless. And Nick Frost doing Willie Rushton made me laugh till I puked, so thanks for that, well worth it.

  • Who is Kevin Eldon playing?

  • a contestant

  • Bit more specific?

  • Unlucky there, Brian.

  • I love the fact that Terry and the audience can understand Willie Rushton perfectly ("you're skating on thin ice, Rushton") but the distracted insincerity of "I hope so too" does it for me. I presume "Yellow Reggae" is a Robert Popper (Robin Cooper) creation... A genuine cult classic!

  • Yes it's his lovely style! Have you heard the Timewaster Phonecalls yet?

    Hebbo!

  • I'll tell you all the people in this sketch.

    Peter Serafinowicz

    Simon Pegg

    Nick Frost

    David Walliams

    Matt Lucas

    Martin Freeman

    Sarah Alexander

    Kevin Eldon

    Stirling Gallacher

  • when was this broadcast?

  • 2003

It is a very funny sketch! I have never seen until now Nov 2008 - I have lived outside of UK for MANY years.

I agree that Peter's impersonation of Wogan is the best I have ever seen.

  • Classic

  • This is literally the funniest thing I've ever seen - it was back then and it still is (crying with laughter) xx

  • if you notice Liza Goddard is still dead on the set.

  • Best Terry Wogan impersonator ever.

  • Simon pegg's Freddie Starr is spot on, remember seeing him on Des O'conner yesteryear and finding his ''outareous behaviour'' sad and dated.

  • Johnny Rotten is played by Martin Freeman. He was from the Office and the movie version of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. The one i don;t recognise is Liza.

  • That's Sarah Alexander. Green Wing?

  • and Peter Serafinowicz's (Terry) partner.

  • @trydowave I know it's old now but Liza Goddard was Sarah Alexander from Smack The Pony and Peter Serafinowicz' wife.

  • @trydowave Liza is played by Sarah Alexander, better known for her roles in Coupling, Smack the Pony and Green Wing. She's also Peter Serafinowicz's (Wogan in this clip) wife.

  • @trydowave It's Sarah Alexander from Coupling/Smack The Pony

  • @trydowave Liza is played by Sarah Alexander, from Smack the Pony, Coupling and Green Wing!

  • @trydowave Liza is played by Sarah Alexander; she's in Coupling, Green Wing and Smack the Pony!

  • @trydowave Sarah Alexander plays Liza

  • @trydowave oh and bilbo baggins?

  • @trydowave Dont know if anyone answered, or if you're still interested..but that was Sarah Alexander, she was in smack the Pony.

  • @trydowave It's Sarah Alexander

  • i know them all apart from the guy who plays johnny. who is he
