A Ki is used to scare as pointed out but is first and foremost a breathing technique used to release Chi through your strike the yell is not required just the exhalation of breath upon striking. As a kickboxer you will be familiar with breathing out as you strike the Ki is the same just taught in a different way expelling your entire lung full of air allows a full fresh lung full of air upon every strike you may be aware that the harder you hit the more you grunt or expel air
mate slow it down i relise for empi it relise you are going way to fast it is fast and slow in the techniques if it is a movemnt that is slow you do it slow like the jump you go fast
A little question. When I'm in my kickboxing club, they sometimes make noises while practising kicks and stuff. I didn't really notice it. But here, they say stuff like "hie"... Why?
Called a Kiai or 気合. Literally translated means "air combination" or "combination of air". Essentially a battle cry, when used in kata (forms) marks the climax of action or a critical technique and when used in kumite (sparring) used to call your shots. That meaning you show that a valid strike was executed with conviction and intention instead of random movements.
it took me months to get that jump in empi but now that i got it............it still looks like shit compared to that...

that's a KI. the point of a KI is to scare the opponent......and to bring out spirit. Each kata has 2 specific points where a KI is made

In kickboxing ther is no "kata" or forms, and while practcing kickboxers make noice which is exhaling in order to get the belly tight .
