@misticspear, Though I know your comment was left like 25yrs ago let me revise that. The Neo Geo is/was one of the most UNRECOGNIZED systems of all time due to it's hefty price tag of both it's home system and games.....the word "underrated" is used for something that is well known but overlooked, in this case the Neo Geo was not well known but was overlooked because of it's pricing. I lived the era, TurboGrafx was underrated.
Ahh, the memories of watching kids play this on Nick Arcade. & always thinkin' I could outperform their asses in gettin' a better score with the 30 seconds or so given.
How many continues does the home console version have? I have Fatal Fury on my Wii's Virtual Console, and that version is the home console one, with only three continues.
this old school, hack and slash type of game is highly suitable for arcade platform because the gameplay is very intuitive and need not extensive practice to beat.
I do love the current generation games, but something always takes me back to the golden years!I remember goin' to 7-eleven,buying a slurpee and playing this game. This game, along with MANY others, let you live out your boyhood fightin'thugs and destroyin'stuff fantasies
A lot of the graphics and sound comes from having massive game cartriges. Snes and Megadrive had to scale back their games to fit on tiny 7-20 MB cartiges Neo Geo had its early games at 45MB and later ones over 300MB. its 6800 CPU was a faster version of the megadrive CPU and had an 8bit CPU to give it more computing power on top of that it had power full sprite animation chips to animate lots of characters and bullets at huge sizes.
Yeah look up the neo geo specs on the cpu. 8 bit and 16 bit. I think one of the processor is on the genesis. google it. I havent owned this system in so long.
Neo Geo had a 16-bit main processor and an additional 8-bit coprocessor. So yes it was 24 bit, but not really. Kind of like the Turbografx 16. A '16-bit' system with two seperate 8-bit processors.
WCWite, I meant 16-bit era in that it was released during the Sega Genesis, SNES, and Turbographx16 timeline. Compared to those consoles, the NeoGeo was the cream of the crop during that time period.
But, still this is an awesome beat-'em-up, and really, EXTREMELY badass, too. It was probably the same way back in the day. Too bad it was so undermarketed to the point of obscurity...
In response to an earlier comment (yes, the insulting one), you have to remember that the SNK NeoGeo had only been used for about a year up until this game was made (1989-1990, to be exact), and it would be a long time before SNK finally realized how much potential power the NeoGeo had for them to exploit. That power was been shown in its best form, IMHO, in KoF 2003, which weighed in at a massive 716 megs! Damn!
My girlfriend just bought me a neo geo system for our anniversary, complete with cabinet. Best gift I,ve ever recieved

@ApacheMan2K :There's three continues here too, but you can "cheat" a bit by using the 2nd player when you're about to die for good.

This game is really badass, and if I think about the 3-D games today, it just don't match the same feeling as when the Neo was popular.
