  • can you put a video up of you playing it slower? It sounds awesome I just can't really get it from this video

  • Finally someone who plays it right! Can you tell me how you figured it out? And also do you lead with your left or right foot?

  • @MrMickScott Thank you. First of course I listened to it a lot, then I watched the video clip from the Pantera DVDs all over again until I got it. My dominant foot is the right foot.

  • @rTuomikanto Anyway you could break it down? I also lead with my right. seems like a triplet R and a constant L

  • @MrMickScott Sure, here you go: R LRRL R LRRL R LRRL

  • taidat olla suomalainen vai? :DD mut joo hei tosi hyvä video opetti tosi hyvin ku oon suunnittelemassa et teen täst coverin jossain vaiheessa. onko toi pearl demon drive pedaali?

  • @Ayriainen Kyllä, suomalainen olen. Ja kiitos! Tuo on Pearl Demon Drive tuplapedaali.

  • vinny uses two bass pedals on two different drums. ive seen how he does it, im not a drummer so dont kill me please :)

  • @gunraykilla You are absolutely right! :)

  • Those beaters kick ass man!!!

  • @yuckota Pearl makes optional wooden beaters for Demon Drives, you should check them out!

  • @rTuomikanto of course i will!!! =)

  • just a bit more precision and you're great! good work.

  • @SDJrekoff Sure. This is merely an 'illustration' on how Vinnie plays it. I had to learn it to the Dimebag tribute tour.

  • @rTuomikanto just keep it up and don't lose hope, you're on a way too good way to master the drums. wish ya all the best mate.

  • @SDJrekoff Thx dude. Although drumming is not a personal challenge or a competition for me, so I don't think about hope too much. I just play for the enjoyment of playing.

  • You make it look so fuckin easy! hahaha, kick ass man.. You have a new fan :) lol

  • AWESOME MAN!! i love your pedals!!

  • Thanks for the break down on that.

  • the way you play it is right, except that vinnie starts with the left foot instead of the right

    L L RR L R L RR L R L RR L R

    pd: nice kicks sound

  • @Blitzlash Vinnie starts it with the right foot. You can see this on the vid where he's tracking the song. PS. Thanks! Wooden beaters + coins do the trick! :) This is also learned from Vinnie.

  • @rTuomikanto what kind of coins do you use and how/where do you tape them please respond i have the wooden beaters already

  • @rTuomikanto you were right, i've checked the vid again, and the audio has a little lag, that's why i thought that vinnie starts with the left foot but he doesn't.

that "click" sound is just because of the coins? where did you exactly placed them because in the video it's not possible to see the coins

  • @rTuomikanto What settings do you use on your demon drive? just got min and could do with some advice :) thanks :D

  • @rTuomikanto dudes, it doesn't matter which foot vinnie starts the pattern with. when you listen to the song on the record you can't see his feet and don't really care what he did, as long as you do the part and get it to sound right - that's what music is about. if you wanna practice it with the other foot to improve your technique that's fine, if you wanna know what he did to help yourself play it that's fine too. but if you nailed it already it doesn't really matter which foot u use.. my .02

  • @ZrowBD It sounds and feels different with a different execution. I'm all about learning new ways of expressing myself musically, so I'm very curious about how people create the sound they have behind the kit.

Kautta Panteran historian on levyillä kuultavissa, miten Vinnie (kuten monet muutkin esim. Hahto, Lombardo) aloittaa basaritykityksensä vasurilla.

  • thats the way i figuered.... by ear. all these people play it pretty different. R RLRL R LRLR L RLRL

  • @SteRhythm That's how I figured it out too, before I saw the video of him playing the beat. This is actually a very popular method in Vinnie's playing through the Pantera albums; dropping two 16th note triplets with the right foot, while pounding 16th note singles leading with the left foot as Vinnie does.

  • Respectfully, I don't believe this is correct. The song Becoming involves two six stroke rolls, then one five-stroke roll with the feet, and it appears that the technique displayed in this video is not playing each note.

The correct sticking for each verse is

    R RLRLR L RLRLR L RLRLR (repeat)

The end of the song repeats the six stroke rolls without adding the last five-stroke roll.

    Kind regards

  • @failedcreation1 The correct sticking would be R LRR LR LRR LR LRR L. You can see this on the video where he's tracking the song, filmed behind the throne so yu can see his feet. Dropping 16th note triplets this way, when doing 16th note singles leading with your left is is very common for Vinnie. You can hear similiar patterns even back in the CFH album.

  • So, Vinnie tapes coins on bass-drum heads,interesting...

  • @Vujo357 or just use a plastic or wooden beater :P

  • Onkos nuo demon drivit todellakin sen hinnan arvoisia?

Aattelin pistää semmoset tilaukseen mutta enpä tiiä jos siinä olis mitää järkeä? :)

  • @pevettimies Suosittelen testaamaan ensiksi jos mahd. Suoravedoissa on aina oma tatsi, vaikkakin Demonit on 'normimman' tuntuset kun esim. Axikset.

  • Can someone tell me what foot he uses for every stroke? For example right-left-right-left ecc...

  • @drummerkard R LRRL R LRRL R LRRL Here you go bro, hope that clears it out.

  • @rTuomikanto Thanks!

  • duude nice feet work bu that just dont sound right

  • @234addict yeah it's badly played time wise, but nevertheless that's how vinnies does it.

  • @rTuomikanto You're the man. I figured it out a while ago just looking at Vin's feet and you got it perfectly right dude. And everyone who says it's wrong is wrong! I can't play it (yet) but it goes like that. Good man.

  • That doesn't sound right to me,.

  • @ZedMisfit yeah not soo fancy on the technical side, but this really is the way he plays it. he only plays it better. :)

  • is there anyway u could tab out the snare & bass drum pattern? or like do the snare & bass drums together slow? Awesome btw.

  • nice set

  • I've got the demon drive pedals too, but do you recommend the wooden beaters or the felt beaters ? Btw i love your drumming

  • @larswarlock I use wooden beaters myself, recommended.

  • nice. nice. nice! and that pedal is amazing! I've played it before.

  • yep, that's the way most of the drummers did that punchy slapping sound back in the -80's and early -90's....the other way was taping a piece of plastic (f.e. old credit card or such....) on to the bdhead and wooden beaters...and I do recommend using the falam over the tape because especially duct tape tends to "melt" on the beaters.......

  • Gracias, desde Colombia...tu video me ayudo mucho

  • so the foot work is...

  • Nice damm work dude, but in what part of the drumhead you put the coins!?

  • @gozzcore First put a Falam Slam to ur bdhead, then take another Falam pad and put a coin on the tape side to the spot where the beater hits it. Then put the Falam pad on top of the first one. Works for me. In this vid I use a different method though.

PS. U can use smaller pads for single pedals and larger pads w/ 2 coins for double pedals.

  • @rTuomikanto Thanks man, it really works, but this metod is used too by Vinie Paul Isn't?? well thanks for the help... great foot work

  • @gozzcore Yes. This is the signature sound heard on Pantera albums. Coins and wooden beaters, Vinnie definately knows his stuff! :)

  • @rTuomikanto and alot of EQ

  • Hey man, how did you get your bassdrum to sound like that? The clicking, I mean.

  • @tpp8 I used coins. :)

  • Ok, thanks man.

But... doesn't that damage the drumhead? Sounds awesome btw.

  • @tpp8 I suggest using a falam slam on the bottom before putting the coin...

  • @drumsrules1 thx bro!

  • Nätisti lähtee tuplaiskut!

  • sama vähä hitaammi ^^

  • @qytjsasskf soita vaan SINGLE TRIPLE DOUBLE TRIPLE DOUBLE TRIPLE ja alusta.

  • where do you tape the coins? Im big VP fan... thx for the vid anyway

  • on the bd head where the beater meets the head.

  • @rTuomikanto ok, kitti. Olisin varmaa voinu suomeksi kysästä :P

  • Hey bud thats a very well done job, would u mind telling me how that pattern is played? I'm hearing: single, triple, double, triple, double, is that how it goes?

  • yes that's correct. it's: r lrr lr lrr lr lrr l if that makes any sense.

  • R LRR LR LRR LRR L.... is corret this?

  • @arsenalef yes that's correct.

  • @rTuomikanto thenks

  • BASSSS!!

  • YEAAAH ROCK
