@gholstein80 Its not ok to exploit children but its ok for the coal industry to poison them? Madison has very little direct impact from MTR and is on city water. What about the children of Prenter who only recently got city water. Before that they only had wells. Most of the people who live south of Madison have well water and its that water is being posioned along with the streams. But as long as you get that paycheck i dont expect you to understand.

dont think coal mining caused the flooding in all the places and as far as the baby it was probably a victim of the oxy craze going on in this part of the state at this time by the people who dont want to work or productive in any way and please in the future when fighting current matters use current pictures looks like your illiterate drone family has been saving them for years

All that vegitation theyve destroyed, yeah all that "overburden", is what use to soak up the rain water before it reaches the waterways. Now there is no vegitation and just dirt and rock and it runs down the mountains into the valleys swelling the streams. This video is so uninformed, I don't even know when to start. Coal is not robbing it's workers anymore. Coal mining is the only decent living around a lot of West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and others. Coal is not robbing us of jobs...treehuggers are trying to do that. Coal is not robbing us of education. If the author of this video would have actually been educated in coal mining, they would see that MTR actually helps the land to be usefull, instead of a bunch of mountains too steep to walk

In truth, MTR reduces the number of miners needed, therefore replacing a lot of good-paying union jobs with heavy machinery. And how dare you degrade the Appalachians by calling them "a bunch of mountains". They're my homeland, and I've found that they're only too steep for those that do not respect them.

There are mountains upon mountains, upon mountains that nobody will ever live on, or no business will touch...except coal mining. As for MTR replacing jobs...there will never be enough underground miners to get all the coal this country needs. It's too dangerous...Check statistics for deaths per year underground, and on surface mines. Dont hate progress.

@WV24985 the reason MTR sites have less statistics is because they are lazy "miners" who sit in the seat of heavy equipment and pyrotechnics experts. They barely get their hands dirty. The Appalachians are the 2nd most biodiverse forests aside from the Amazon itself and theyre just blowing it up at will. You may have lived in WV all your life, but how many generations. My family lived in the area since before the US was even formed. True Appalachians care about these mountains not the coal.

Showalter Micropower wants to run natural gas gen-sets in WV. SMP wants to use the off gases from the gen-sets to fast grow trees to be replanted on old mine sites. The trees would be Free to any coal mine that would replant them on the old mines. Trees work better than grass at cleaning run off from mines.

Speaking from respect to Appalachian history, you would disappoint the many who fought for their own well beings against the very coal industry that you defend. Why do you think miners began unionizing? I don't think it was because they decided to defend the coal industry. No, it was to defend themSELVES from IT. I feel your story is one sided, and the baby on their is a low blow. These miners that have to strip mine has got kids to, if they didn't have a job, their kids would be homeless, no food, no clothes, they would have nothing. In eastern ky, these mining jobs is all we have for our families to make a living, I love the mountains to, but my family has to eat, and a roof. So, think about the other side of the story.

Why do you think that is? Mountaintop removal is the cheapest way to get at coal and puts people out of work. It only takes a handful of men to blow up a mountain while it takes 100s to get the coal out of underground mines. Talk about your kids?... what are you leaving behind for them? Don't be a willing participant in selling out their future so some out-of-state millionaires can get richer. What are your kids going to do when king coal is done turning E KY into a toxic waste dump? Wake up.
