Sorry people, but the top rated comment by TheAdmiral is wrong, the female looks nothing like the male, so there is no confusion whether he is seeing a male or female image in the mirror. It's a threat posture he is giving to the image in the mirror, not a mating dance.
2 years ago I found a half-inch black jumper doing the same thing in the mirror! He kept scuttling left and right, waving his front legs. It was amazing. I don't think he would confuse his reflection for a female. It's probably an aggressive stance.
if the bold jumping spider the one that is black with white polka dots then i see those all the time.... but the one at my grandmas house was huge!!!!! he was about an inch and a half long and really wide id never seen one get so big but then again im a pretty big wussy when it comes to spiders =/
@7998998997 I didn't mean the song, I was saying nice edit in how you put the clips of the jumping spiders where they matched with the song in the video. I already knew the song wasn't edited.
Today I had a little jerky spider on my monitor! I used my mouse cursor near him and he started to dance wherever I put the cursor at one point he was spinning around in circles I was laughing my ass off. Just like a cat this spider. He was a domestic spider not a banana spider or daddy long legs. His legs were short and tight to his body, dark in color and jerky movement.
Ha - great video. I'm assuming you are in the United States...if so, the spider from the still in the beginning appears to be a male Phidippus audax and the orange-legged mirror-loving beastie looks like he may be an adult male Phidippus arizonensis.
...as for the little "dub a dub a duba a" leg scratching one - I have no idea maybe a female Habronattus species?
In response to the "more info" on this video, the spider in the beginning of the video is the "bold" or "daring" jumping spider (phidippus audux) and jumping spiders typically only get to about a half an inch long so im doubting the two inch long spider you saw was actually a jumping spider at all.
The huge one I saw was about 2 or 3 inches (from pedipalps to spinneret) and it was a bold jumper with blue chelicerae like the one in the beginning of the video. It was the fastest, biggest spider I've ever seen! He was extremely nervous too.
The one with orange legs was about an inch (same way of measure), I know this because I kept it for a few weeks and measured it ^-^
that's insane then! the bold is definately considered one of the largest types of jumping spiders in america (and also one of the most common) but i've never heard of one getting that large! that's quite a find!
I was living in a newly developed housing area at the time, maybe I found something new! I should have took a picture of it. Usually I like to catch jumpers and keep them for a while (and take some pictures) instead of taking a picture first.
The mirror spider is actually Portia labiata, the only spider in the world that is consciously aware of itself. It was declared one of the worlds smartest animals by national geographic.
I thought seperating the moth and spider between the glass so you could see how he hunts was marvelous. The way he was threatening his own reflection was hysterical, too. Boys... JK.
name of song please.

@Evil0o0700 Spiders and crabs are family, spiders are in fact evolved crabs.
Spiders are not insects, but they do love to eat them ^^

0:57: The spider intentionally lets its leg go limp.
Is it making a comparison between itself and its reflection to check for copied behavior?
Even dogs aren't smart enough to do that.
