  • Not everybody has a "lab scope" ya know. Especially ur average do-it-yourselfers like me. I had a misfire on my Expedition with COPs. Check engine light was one. The codes read misfire cylinder 2. So i cleared the codes and simply switch the coil that was on cylinder2 with the coil on cylinder 1, just switched them around. Didnt cost me anything. Then i drove just to make aengine light come back on. Light came on, and NOW the codes read misfire Cylinder1. Bingo! Replaced the coil. Runs great now.

  • For the cost of those diagnostic tools it would be cheaper to just buy a complete set of new COPs.

  • You are looking at voltage waveforms, therefore you are using a capacitive and not an inductive pick up.

  • you would test the secondary not the primary with an inductive pickup you dip shit.

  • @HunterCO1 if u know how to do it so much better why dont u post a video on how its done mr know it all...

  • @jdubb408 Robby go drive your truck and shut the fuck up already.

  • @HunterCO1 so in other words u dont have a video showing how its supposed to be done but yet u criticize a master technician on a way hes showing u how its done to to way u think its supposed to be done but dont have a video showing your supposedly correct way and u comment back to me with a retarded comment that doesnt make sense on what i said to u the 1st time for someone whos supposed to be such an expert in automotive diagnosis your vocabulary makes u sound like a dumbass

  • @jdubb408 I simply pointed out he said to test the primary and he is looking at the secondary you dumbfuck. I said nothing about his method of testing the coil just that he seems to not understand the difference between the primary and secondary portion of the ignition system.

ASE master tech don't mean shit I am one and have fired one from my own shop as he was a fucking moron. Now robby go drive your truck and shut the fuck up already.

  • @HunterCO1 ok mr master tech like i said why dont u show how its done then instead of bashing another master tech u call yourself a master tech so does that mean it doesnt mean shit either that your supposed to be one? u act like your god in the automotive diagnosis but in reality your more like a dumb shit moron who needs to criticize other people with your poor vocabulary that just doesnt make sense just to make himself feel like hes superior..

  • @jdubb408 Dumbfuck learn to read once again I never said there was anything wrong with his method just that he was testing the secondary circuit that is why you drive a truck robby your too fucking stupid to do anything else.

He showed how I test the secondary of a coil so why repeat it you fucking moron.

  • @HunterCO1 yea i know what u said but they way u said it u seem as if ur so much smarter than anyone u insult him for something u say hes doing wrong so instead of doing that why dont u post a video on how its done ya dumb shit instead of blabling your stupid ass mouth to a master tech who goes out of his way to show you something. your just an ignorant lil fuck who thinks hes better than anyone so go fuck yourself harold and drive your bettle cuz thats all your known to be good at

  • @jdubb408 why would I post a video of the same thing he just did you dumbfuck for the forth time its not what he did its the fact he is checking the secondary not the primary. Now little boy get back to driving a truck you fucking moron.

  • @HunterCO1 YA THINK YOU DUMB FUCK! LOL

  • Could you tell me what your Lab/Ignition scope settings are for this? I'm tryin to do this procedure using a Vantage Pro and I can't get the pattern to display.

  • @dmorley100 this will not work on all coils. I too tried it with my MODIS and could not get it to work on a ford 4.6 COP in a f150, how ever was able to "watch" patterns on set ups in the next bay. The low amp probe method he shows works well, but still is not 100% fool proof.

  • @wlpupo Actually I eventually figured out on my own how to get this to work. I think the reason I never got a reply as to the settings is because each coil is different as to which settings to use and can be very tricky to find the right settings. Even the angle at which you hold the pick-up in relation to the coil makes a huge difference as to whether it displays a pattern or not.

  • @dmorley100 Hmm, maybe holding it on the side of the coil might work? I will run more test in my free time...lol free time! Yeah right...Well next time I have a ford cop giving me issues I will try that. TTYL!

  • @wlpupo It's possible. Seems like I remember running into a GM product one time that I had to do that to get it to display the pattern. I don't remember what it was on though.

  • GREAT INFO but is this not the secondary your are testing and not the primary signal the primary signal can be tested by hooking the lab scope to the ground controled (computer side ) of the coil this will also show you the primary inductive kick and IF the computer is taking the coil to FULL ground or if you have a week driver or bad ground in or to the computer rember powers and grounds can be a big problem again THANKS for the great info on the COP use
