I have a theory that will make motogp more exciting and much more attractive. A 4 class series, consisting of;

125cc (as they are)

These 250 singles.

The current 600 hondas.

And the 1000cc motogp bikes, without as many electronics.

a 450 single and its sound fits quite well in some sort of vintage cafe racer or of course dirtbikes, for sure not GP-racing! i'd like it if they do strange, high reving engines again like back in the days... for example in the 50's: moto guzzi's 500cc V8, or in the 60's: honda "rc 166" 250cc straight-6 or suzuki's 2stroke "rp-68" 50cc V3 (!)

those were remarkable engines and i guess it made racing really interesting.

why don't they allow engine configurations like this again? it's sad...

love the torque of my szr660 single. all the power is right there. beats my mates zx9 up until about 140km/h. then he leaves me for dead, but the power is so accessible until about 180. perfect beast for corners.

@tpvalley dunno where your getting that info from. a single cylider 450 4stroke engine can easily produce over 70bhp. I have a yz450f supermotot running at 591bhp per tonne....go do the math...thats more than a veyron.

the 250's gonna be replaced in 2010 by.. honda cbrr 600cc roadbikes with moded frame,suspension and brakes..

the bikes will all be the same and if one team wants the others team bike..

they can buy it after each race..

Why should the 250class even be replaced? Well then put the 500cc 2-strokes back into their place, problem solved. Up the cc's for 4-strokes to 1300cc to be competitive against 500cc 2-strokes and mix them all up. Ahh that would be interesting. btw, 1cylinder 4-stroke=FART FART FAAAAAAART, 2-stroke=Win Win Wiiiiiiiiin ;)

Yes, its the development of tyres, 4-stroke knowledge and aerodynamics.

Imagine a 8cylinder 999cc 400hp 2-stroke :D

If they built all new 500cc 2-strokes it would be the end of the world with todays technology and knowledge :)

They also removed 4cylinders (v12 to v8)from F1 cars and got faster cornering speeds leading to faster crash and lap speeds.

@tpvalley i agree, small displacement engines make racing more interesting... they should be allowed to make strange multi-cyl. engines again like 40...50 years ago; for example the honda rc 166's 250cc straight 6, honda even made a 50cc 2-cyl. (also 4stroke), suzuki tried a 50cc V3 2stroke, but unfortunately it never raced because they changed the rules :(

I don't want to see the strokers replaced, but when they are, I'd like to see something like this. Maybe there could be different displacement rules for different engine layouts, maybe the strokers could still be retained. 500CC max for 4 stroke singles, 450CC for twins, 350CC for triples and four cylinder engines. Kind of like World Superbike.
