Superb! I can only imagine how it would roll out into the church, in all its glory, if one were there. Thank you for this and your other YouTube videos. First-rate in every way.
Along with Philippe Delacour's gorgeous rendition (no longer here, boo hoo), this is my all-time favorite. This piece has to be exciting, and - man - is this exciting...and dramatic! Spectacular. Thank you, Jean-Baptiste and tuyauxdorgue!
You can remove 2 of the 'dislikes' (maybe 3) I was trying to get rid of the 'dislike' I accidentally pressed when I was trying to press 'like' and my mouse jumped. I finally got the 'like' to work, but I don't know how many of the 'dislikes' remained. Sorry about that! I definitely don't dislike it! It is a wonderful performance, or I wouldn't have put it on my playlist.
This blew me away, honestly. If it's this epic listening to it on cheap headphones, I think actually being there would be too much for me to handle and I'd get sucked into the realm of pure awesome and happily implode to death.
I love the posts by you nitwits who know so little about the organ and its music that you try to be critical, and all you do is show your lack of depth, as you obviously don't even know who this is . .
Well, I understand what you mean, but considering all the gorgeous symphonic organs in France, built by Cavaillé-Coll, Merklin, Debierre, Puget, Haerpfer, etc., this doesn't sound that great. No offense to the great interpretation.
This is certainly a superbly articulated performance of this piece. The organ is by no means plain in it ability to create the immense ringing sound necessary for this work to sound genuine. A work with carillon in the title should sound like bells people. I find this one very convincing.
I agree that currently on Youtube J/R plays this the best and the organ allows the listener a better articulated performance...but Virgil Fox is amazing on the Wanamaker organ. I would love to hear it.
@robertgift - Look through my Youtube site and it is there with lots of comments. Virgil's COME SWEET DEATH is my most watched video, over 28.000 views at the moment...I think...
I agree with willowthebored's comment on this being the best performance of this piece on Youtube! J/R does a great job with the gift that God has provided him with! :)
The best recording of this on YouTube, I feel. I like it more than Latry's available recording (though it's on par with the Notre Dame de Paris recording on Latry's album). Beautifully preserved tempo, and I really like the chorus reeds-not too oppressive like with a straight up Trompette en Chamade.
Ritengo sia la migliore interpretazione ad oggi presente in Youtube. L'organista è stato allievo di Latry, ma qui lo supera alla grande. Esaltante il rumore di meccanica delle leve Barker.
I think this is the best interpretation of this music in Youtube. The organist was a student of Latry, but in this interpretation he is better than his teacher. I like very much the noise of the Barker action.

Always a treat to listen to J-B perform this piece.
Such talent! Blessings from Wisc :)

Very good interpretation. Such a shame the organ is so plain...

Such clarity and, above all, TASTE!!! All too often sadly lacking in musical performances nowadays. Bravo, Bravissimo!

Only Virgil Fox plays it better on the Wanamaker organ. I have the Audio and may put it on my site.

I have a Audio recording of Virgil Fox playing this piece on the Wanamaker organ. On a good sound system (That I have) the sound is awesome.

Love Virgil but he is disappointing in many things.
Speed is not the "all".
