I prefer the old Beck. I want to enjoy his playing but the whammy stuff gets on my nerves. He should play differently once in a while. My humble opinion.
love his early fusion playing, like on this video. his playing was at his peak here, to me atleast. so fast a fluent. he just doesnt sound like this anymore. still incredible though, i mean hey, its jeff beck.
Jeff Beck doesn't peak... he just gets better and better with age(unlike any of his counterparts Clapton or Page)... he is constantly re-inventing himself while the whole time sounding like himself... that is why he rules!
Always one of my favorite Beck songs. This is really a great surprise to see this on video. Much different than the version I'm used to on "Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer Live".
I miss this days - when I could actually figure out what he was doing. I can't play his new stuff at all. The only guitarist in the planet I can say that about.
Really; you can play like Debashish Bhattacharya, Paco DeLucia, John Stowell, Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin, Pat Martino, Guthrie Govan, Pat Metheny, etc? You must be unbelievably good, or full of shit; I wonder which.
For the record, the key words are "new stuff at all". I can pretty much figure out large chunks of what those people are doing. That's not much of a feat really. 6 string, 12 notes, 22 to 24 frets. How hard can it be? Playing something original is the real trick.
From "Blow By Blow." Way, way funkier than the Beatles' original. Phil Chenn (bass), Richard Bailey (drums). This great album is noted for Beck's endless phoning to producer George Martin requesting do-overs of every solo - including one two months after the original take - after the album was already in stores!
Nice talk box work from the world's angriest vegetarian/genius.
Blew Away Every other guitarist @ Claptons Crossroads Concert-Just Amazing!

The best of Jeff Beck is his good taste when playing, besides he is the standard british rock guitarrist.

Does anyone know what is this thing which he uses to sing?
barumbura 1 year ago
@barumbura - it's called a Talk Box. Google it - lots of info on the web.
Who's in the band? I'm guessing it's Max M on keys but the rhythm section doesn't sound like Phil Chen and Richard Bailey on the album.

@AlmostEthical The band is UPP, a white funk unit. Jeff played on and produced their first album.
