takes a very long time for this match to get interesting. all of a sudden, about 12:00, yugi begins meting out some good punishment like we're used to from him. he's commpletely in control for five minutes. the tide turns. hiroshi does some good work but it's lackluster. i think yuji cuts hiroshi some slack, compared to the ruthless, unrelenting punishment he laid on koji kanemoto. all in all an okay match, not all that exciting. don't know why it impressed so much first time i saw it.
these two are as tough as bricks, complete, versatile athletes who deserve appreciation whether wrestling or puroresu is your piece of cake or not. Chapeau.
classical gimmick: veteran heel poses as a high hurdle a young rising star must get over. no real action until 12:05. then hiroshi gets a brutal ass kicking for five unrelenting minutes. the rest of the match is nowhere near exciting. in classical gimmick young star loses but then gets a major push.
@japanpro1 hahaha i read your post before i watched the match and totally though tanahashi was gonna win lol you tricked me! hahaha very good match love the dragon suplex, enzugiri, dragon sleeper moves from tanahashi really reminds me of inoki/fujinami era.
Nagata has the hardest kicks I think I've ever seen....I thought he broke Tanahashi's sternum at one point....the only other comparable ones I can think of are those from Shinya Hashimoto in the 90's
Good match between Tanahashi and Nagata. I'm glad that TNA has a working agreement with them. Yuji fought Kurt Angle last year for the IWGP 3rd belt, but Kurt retained it.
I remember the first time I saw a match live, in Japan, I thought something was wrong.. It was so quiet, you could literally hear individual people coughing in the audience. Afterward, though, the audience erupted in a polite but VERY loud applause. It's just one of those interesting differences in culture. =D
Not anymore...Lesnar was stripped of the IWGP title a few months after this match and Tanahashi later won a tournament to crown a new champion for the vacated title.
Whatever became of the U-30 belt? I thought it was a great concept - I thought it was exactly what WWE's intercontinental title should be... Instead of the way it is now with ambiguous meaning.
Tanahashi absolutely got his ass kicked! how he really won is beyond me. No way!

This only my 3rd or 4th match watching Nagata, but he's a bad man. I wish he'd come to ROH!

He used to be in WCW a long time ago but was relegated to jobber status after his feud with ultimo dragon.

The was a great match, and I love how slow he did that brain buster. That's the slowest brain buster I've seen in my life, check out 12:13.

armandroh666 4 years ago
Nah. I just get a kick out of when things just degrade to all out slapfests. Most especially when they involve Tanahashi. :P

Nothing stupid with dragon suplex finish but its just sloppy, nagata FTW at april 13!

emo hair would be a good look for a pretty boy heel in the states... tanahashi is probobly the only guy that can have emo hair and still be baddass.
patrickthadude 5 years ago
maybe because thats the hairstyle that some japanese (or asian overall) pretty boys prefer...in tanahashi's case he thinks so
kyotanahashi 4 years ago
Nice match! I can't wait for their championship match in April 13. This time, Nagata is the challenger for Tanahashi's title.
