I'm told the effigy that year burned a hole in the cloud top, showing up on the radar at the nearby airport, forcing them to divert air traffic around it. Needless to say, the effigy has been less ambitious these last couple of years.

i've never seen such an amazing effigy. that was my first burn and have since been to 6 more - none compare. I didnt know they had to divert air traffic! i do remember the embers going up as high as you could see though
