  • The clarinets are amazing

  • Fantastic clarinet players!

  • oO

  • I was fortunate enough to attend this performance in the Philarmonie; a truly moving experience which will live with me for a long time. I cannot understand why the CD has received such a lukewarm response from critics here in the UK.

  • We can see here the oboist using the diaphragm at 2:54. The Berliner's performances are amazing... All of them.

  • wow the clarinet pianissimos at 0:50 are really impressive...

  • @noirvalentin Mahler 2 is born in Rattle's DNA. The chorus sings in his blood.

  • @BerlinPhil You wouldn't mind asking principal oboe Jonathan Kelly what shape and gauge thickness he uses for his reeds?

  • French clarinet!!!!

  • @jonataszacarias1 if you look closely

those key mechanisms doesn't even look like a french clarinet....

  • @leeyihlun19940520 Ok! you are correct!

  • there's a cellist at 1:54, isn't he from the Vienna Phil? i think i remember his face from the new year concert..

  • This is so detailed, amazing balance.

  • @OSUSZANN would have to agree.. i don't think it should be very heavy like abbado.. great job here..

  • fantastic, the Berliner Philharmoniker is outstanding as ever, mahler - just as great

  • Sehr Gut!!!!

  • who is the principal horn?

  • @valihorn92 Looks like Martin Owen for some reason...

  • @stephencraigen thanks!

  • Very good playing, and so well captured.

  • I saw a horn up there with a rotor on the bell taper. I've seen another like that played by the principal horn of Concertgebouw but I'd love to know the brand.

  • @JawigginsH Definitely Paxman, as that valve is their design, allowing f alto sides a proper taper by diverging airflow close to the mouthpiece. So it's either a descant or a triple. Most likely a triple by the looks of the tubing.

  • @JawigginsH Sadly I was wrong...I saw Martin yesterday and he said it's an Alex 107X...Bb/F alto descant with a stopping valve. Loads of London pros have them now apparently.

  • お客さんの中にジンマンがいる!

  • Wow what kind of trumpets are they playing??

  • @eulricsalazar german rotary valve trumpets. this trumpets are used in every german orchestra and in afew other countries of europe. the valves are same as used in french horns.

  • @eulricsalazar Valve Trumpets.

  • I get such enormous pleasure for each and every performance by this magnificent orchestra. I can't ever thank you enough for posting these videos!

  • GRAN SONIDO. BRAVO

  • <3

  • who is the first bassoonist?

  • I watched this concert on DCH. It was incredible.

  • Is this the same recording that is on the November 12, 2010 CD release? If so, I'm buying it right now in iTunes.

You may want to add the iTunes link in your descriptions if the CD is already available. May boost profits! =)

At any rate, fantastic performance, wonderfully executed. A great, great piece of music!

  • @CJSweatt I have the 2010 release and I just compared them and I can confirm that this is indeed the October 2010 concert/November 2010 CD release.

  • @asianpianoman: Fantastic! Thank you so much. I just purchased the album, and all of it is just incredible!

  • @CJSweatt Yep! As good as his recording with the CBSO is, I think this recording with the BPO is just a step above!

  • This is simply incredible... every moment is flawlessly played, and beautifully interpreted. Bravo!

  • just beautiful, beyond words
