I'm a visitor to Okinawa from the United States, staying there with my father who' stationed there. We got to participate in the tug-of-war this year, and our side won! They wouldn't let us cut the rope, though. We had to wait for officials to cut off and hand out sections of the rope themselves.

When I was in Okinawa, they had a tug-of-war competition between the American military and Okinawans. I defected to the other side and was on the Okinawan team. We won and then we all partied all night.
