the difference between the arabs and the israelis is that the former trade oil for weapons that others make, while the latter build their own weapons. but then again the israelis have brains and they know how to use their resources effectively. the muslims either sit on their asses or pray on their knees. occasionally they go on a riot and cream about how unfairly they have been treated. how far would israel have got with that attitude?

They did take individual components from existing MBT's , but they made a whole new combat vehicle with it and all the electronics are purely developped and produced in Israel , many Western countries can take an example from that ! The chassis was built by Tal , nothing American about it , except some roadwheels copied from Patton MBT's

@vionorino Look at Israel, it doesnt have the capability to make anything on its own. Its entire defense industry relies on foreign funding and development. It cant even provide food for its people cause the lack of arable land and it has virtually no natural resources apart from sand, rocks and foreskin.

However, I must say, the Hezbollah fighter proved their worth in ambushing those tanks. They have shown they are capable fighters and are adept to using technological weapons.

Also the Merkava is a great tank still. To survive hits from ATMGs and still not be totally destroyed is already a great achievement. The KORNETs are the most deadly ATGMs around.

Ok, the KORNET is an amazing weapon, 1200 mm penetration is incredible. SPIKE and Javelin average above 700mm penetration.

Either ways, a tank these days are deadly if not countered. They can view targets in the dark, destroy any building with HEAT rounds. They can fire with superb accuracy, over rocky terrain at fast speeds.

Immobilizing them is already half the battle won, even if the tank crew isn't killed. ATGMs are the way to go.

Main problem of thet war - tactics. Merkava were used like moveable pillboxes and atgm teams could launch their "presents".

"Modern" - RPG-29 - 1989, RPG-7 1967. RPG are useless against Merkava mk3D and Mk4. Kornet - mod. "Reflex" for infantry - 1990 - 1994 metis - 1992. Merkava mk4 - 2002.  Plus all this ATGM belong to 2nd generation SACLOS missiles. They can't hit less protected zone - top of the tank, anlike "Spike" and "Javelin". Max penetration - 1200 mm RHA for "Kornet". Frontal armour of mK4 - 1600-1700. Even if tank was penetrated, losses was low - average 1 crew member

well guys israel has put up alot of shit. i mean they fight wars from every where lebenon,egypt,palestine,jordan­,syria. and yet still manage to hold there land. israel lost to lebenon coz they use ghost/gorilla tactics wich every country in the world has pritty much lost to. america lost to vietnam south america are struggleing with the gorilla drug dealers, russia struggled with the boznians and america is struggleing with the taliban. imo gorilla tactics is best way to fight wars today

Toophan 2 & 3 and other missiles are produced in iran. Ok copied from russia but dont bought from russia. Theres a hugedifference between countrys wich have thiss weapons only and countries wich can produce those weapons cause a country wich can produce these weapons can use them without thinking about how mutch they use^^

and Toophan 5 has been added in the military service too.

Toophan 5 is one of very advance anti-tank missile in the world.

based on some sources it can use both wire guide or laser guide and the penetration is more then 1000

how are irans own made aircraft and air defence? I saw some years ago a self made stealth plane called shafaq. They said that they wanted to produce it in the year 2008 but there where no more news. And how are the production capacities of iran i mean in all the pages there stands that iran produces not many planes ect. may 30 a yeaar or something like that. And this are modells wich are based on old F5

1st I want to make it clear that in Iran doctrinal has priority

Iran Air force is in the low priority.

so let continue the talk while the above point in mind

there are two possible condition as been assumed in the case.

1- the shafaq project was a test bed

2- the project under going and due to its importance the kept it secret same as many others.

about the second question, Iranian 1st fighter plane produced in Iran is back to about a decade.

so also due to having low priority of Air-force, can not expect that they put a lot of money to make.

as what I remember what officially has been announce is:

1-Saeqeh: Alavi said that we have a squadron of them, and also said that several new Saeqeh fighters would be added later that make the number to a full 24.

want also to add about shafaq that there was some news around that 3 version prototype of them has been made (Trainer-Strike -Bomber)

also there is unknown project for a multi-rule fighter.

and another one that is known by Sofreh-Mahe Stealth Fighter.

so in total in about a decade Iran made at least 24+11+2=38 fighter plane + one trainee shafaq two seat and some other trainee plane like: Fajr, Tazarv & Simorgh.

hmm this is not mutch. Inshallah they will improove the airforce. We saw what a strong airforce is able to do and we need a big aircraft manufacturing industry.I mean saudi Arabia and even iraq, israel and turkey and other developing countries have better planes than we have. They get F16, F18, Eurofighters and F35 Strealth planes.

And I wish that we can produce all the parts in our own countrie even the engines.

I mean F4 and F5 or our F14 tomcat are obeslote.

The Air-Defense is totally a different story.

Iran 1st priority is its Air-Defense, Iran made a separate branch for it.

no country have a separate branch for Air-Defense.

Iran has a lot of Air-Defense system and equipment (Imported or made indigenously)

I bet you heard about S-300 anti-air missile system, lately Iran shown this system in military day, and they said that this system made in Iran

Hisballah had very few _modern_ anti-tank missiles. They used mostly oudated ATGM missiles such as "Metis" and "Konkurs" from 1970s and early 1980s.
