On this instrument each button plays one note when the bellows is pushed and another when pulled. In Britain it is called a melodeon, the rest of the world calls it a diatonic accordian. The sound is often less smooth than an accordian because the player must often change bellows direction. With a three row instrument the player can find the notes he needs on different rows and play more smoothly.

@funkinspace a melodien has only one row and an accordian has 2 usually or in this case 3 but the difference has nothing to do with tone

I think the Jig is a variation on an Irish tune with names including " Kitty lie over ... " or " What would you do if the kettle boiled over ! "
