  • The music was obviously cleaned up a lot before BOA Grand National Finals that year.

  • /watch?v=-QP_owkespY

watch this, it's my highschool preforming something like this!

  • how bout them snurz!

  • Avon high school is number one for a reason! Fantastic job. :3

  • The trumpet run around 1:25 blows my mind...

  • poor colorguard. they are getting trashed by the wind.

  • btw, how much are your guys' fees?

  • Best marching band in the country at the high school level. Lets all learn something.

  • seminole high school 2004, Experiment 33776; An Adventure in Modernism

  • OMG, two dropped rifles within seconds of each other.. I would be devastated. I feel so sorry for them. And a third time, OMG!!!

  • OMG, two dropped rifles within seconds of each other.. I would be devastated. I feel so sorry for them.

  • I HATE BENT LEGS!!!! ITS SO AWKWARD AND DIRTY!!!

  • BTW Do you guys have any 5-Octave Marimbas?

  • I know a DCI Drum Major Stand when I see one... BTW Are they using Crowns equipment?

  • WHAT. IS. THIS. MUSIC. CALLED.

The Low Brass feature still gives me goosebumps :D I play Euphonium (FTW) in my band, But would switch to Contra in a second if we could afford them :) We do have pretty sweet Silver Sousaphones though :)

If you can tell me what its called I will love you long time <3

  • @MattMozart,

Please see my video of the 10/31/09 show - the show is called "Comm-UNIFORM-ity" featuring Samuel Barber's Symphony No.1 and No.2. Thanks!

  • @blburk35 Wow... I just listened to Symphony No. 1 and... Just wow. Who arranged your guys music in 2009 and 2010? Whoever it was is my hero :)

  • WOW!!! Amazing! Just curious, how often do yall practice every week?

  • iDesparatley Need to know the Name of That Drum Major. omq. he's so goooooood. !

  • @GreenNico8 Yeah, you can see all the shakos tipping over during the ballad haha

  • i dont understand how so many people can be in one band its just crazy how big yall are but great sow all around

  • I'm from Wentzville Holt High school in Wentzville Missouri, and my band aspires to be like these guys.

  • harrison high school marching band and we made final in 2007 and we havent been back since and we were supposed to go to grand nats this year but since kennesaw mountian is going and the always by half a point like they did last year and the year before that we would rather not take chances

  • saw these guys at BOA, phenominal show.

  • Dang i cant tell which one is me, argh

  • Dear Avon Marching Band, Marry me? (: Love, Mikayla

  • youre trumpet section made me cry :)

  • @ADDtwins

hey friend I'm Frederick I'am from El Salvador!, my band this initiative which is the style Marching band, let me know if you see and what you can give your opinion on this, ithis is not a great band, but as I tell you, the name is Coruña Marching band , is here in you tube, thank you and sorry if I interrupt you, good day

  • Avon is good but Dobynns Bennett is going to kick ass at BOA this year.

  • the band is awesome but you can tell the color guard needs help, the first time just watching this and I saw so many rifles fall down, but my props goes to the band

  • @TheVizard1314 I don't march for Avon but their color guard is usually pretty on point. I'm sure it was just a bad day for them, and the first group of performers that day who played in the morning (avon and my band was in that group) had to play in like 40 degree weather and bad wind, so we were all considerably worse than usual lol.

  • What bpm did they take the opener??

  • ..nice video ..! they're really talented . . ♥

  • @xosweetiepeety13 Thank you, we put alot of effort in that year

  • I'm from the Avno Orchestra, we just started 3 years ago, and we are having our first group of Freshmans going to orchestra at the high school, and we are going to have an Avon Symphony Orchestra.

  • are there people that are in drum corp at avon high school? If so how many? and if you could which drum corp(s)?

  • @MuMuCow8,

No drum corp members. Avon does have a great high school drum line though. Check out my other videos, thanks

  • credit really has to be given to the drum major. That's THE BEST conducting i've seen on a high school level. And being at grand nats finals, I must say that soprano solo DRASTICALLY improved. You guys really have a great staff working for you at that school. Be extremely proud of all that you accomplish, because this is excellence.

  • @Kinsburo we have Mr. Webb, and Jeff Queen that helps out at Avon, so yeah theres a great staff for our Marching Band

  • Their colorgaurd has the same uniform as the actual band! Strange but i like that! :P

  • WOW, that was CRAZY good! I loved the entire show, from the drumline, to the solos to the color guard! Absolutely fantastic! =)

  • Those that follow marching band (especially in Indiana), know that this was one of Avon's roughest runs during the season too. Semi state has been rough on nearly all the bands because the past two years we have had it it has been pretty darn cold and windy. But yes, incredible show! Rightfully deserved to win GN this past year.

  • I was in marching for 4 years in H.S. (In Connecticut from 02-06). You guys are absolutely phenomenal, and your precussion section is one of the best I have seen. The color guard was great, even when there was a fumble, they pulled it back together quickly which is sometimes really hard to do.

Congratulations on all your success, it is obvious how hard you work!

  • True!

  • noo...

well do you guys already have your music for your next show?

  • butt there were avon band parents saying you guys started practing for your new show that monday after grand nats...

  • @chelseabandnerdd, that would be news to the band!

  • @chelseabandnerdd maybe they were talking about the guard and drumline.

  • are you guys practicing at bendavis?

  • @caboose10138, no, the contest was at Ben Davis

  • I like the Boston Crusaders' Neocosmos effect at 2:45

  • Last year my band had their visual director.. I miss him lol, he's so good at what he does. So, needless to say, our visuals this year were lacking compared to previous years when we had him ha

  • ha last time we were at BOA u guys beat us of course lo. U all came in 1st and we came in 18th ha. still no bad. Keep up the good work.

    -Dobyns-Bennett High School

    Kingsport, TN

  • What is all the original music called? What symphony? Names of the original songs? This is an amazing performance, but the BOA Grand National Finals performance was OUTSTANDING.

  • I believe the musical selections were just Symphonies 1 and 2 by Samuel Barber.

Avon, ya'll are amazing. After watching your run at Nationals finals I knew you'd take it a second year :)

  • dont you guys practice all year round though?

  • @chelseabandnerdd. No, off until summer!

  • that was great!

    i love 2:06

  • Amazing band, so glad im a part of it!

  • So it's true...?

  • @countchocularules im pretty sure. at least for color guard.

  • @morganmeyer97 Dang! If only our school did that.

  • @countchocularules haha but you have to be like better than most of the freshman.

  • Do you guys really let 8th graders join or is that just rumors?

  • @countchocularules nope, its not a rumor.

  • Wow you guys are amazing. Truly the best high school marching band in the country.

  • This is my school you should have seen them at nationals they won for 2 years in a row only the second school two ever do that

  • Gahhh Trumpets 1:24 I can do that, but I'm probably the only one at my school. Absolutely fantastic. You guys amaze me every year! What would you say contributes the most to how succesful you have been as a group?

  • that was really awesome!!! i loved it!Q i ddint kno that marching bands could be so artistist until my friend sent this to me. it seems more like ballets the writing and make and preforming of it all in one! i would mind being in a band like that(to bad i cant play an instrument):( but great job! that was great!:)

  • this gave me goosebumps just watching it...what id do to be in avons band...i mean my band does secent but avon is freaking beast! i live in PA with all the crap bands i got lucky and im in Kiski Area's band tho

  • Thanks for the nice comments!

  • avon marching band is beast! im from pasadena in texas and i love my band but man i would do anything to be in yalls band! and yalls drum major is just awesome! i hope next year is juat as great or even better :)

  • this band does way too many visuals, cut down on the visuals and make the ones you do have as clean as possible, these arent very clean at all

  • Good thing you're not a BOA judge since Avon won Grand Nationals for the second year in a row.

  • honestly all bands need more money...dosnt mean were gonna get it

  • exactly, my band's pit crew play on 17 year old instruments, our snares are so old that we had to buy two kevlar drum heads for each this yr, the drum wasnt strong enough to hold it in tune. and we are top 8 in the state with about 112 kids, every band makes do with wat they have, and its wat they do when they dont have good equipment is the difference between a good band and a great band.

  • Ok for the 1999 Santa Clara Vanguard remake!!!! Avon High School rocks!!!!!!

  • These guys make me proud to be an 8th grader her in the grand national champion AVON INDIANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think this band needs more money and more people.

  • your just jealous

  • 200+ people isnt enough? lol

  • @seahopki haha

  • much better than iconoclash. congrats on winning boa and state.... again

  • Your trumpet section makes my band director's cry...

  • LOL! Thanks, they are great!

  • at 3:16 one of the kids in the very front moved during the halt

  • yah i saw tht too

  • dude i so agree, they were effin' sick.

  • double agree. badass drumline fo sho. they're easily as good if not better than crossmen was this year

  • oh my god they were so good this year. like oh my god, they even had good quality and sweet notes and everything. damn.

  • I almost think that the trumpet part in this is more chalenging than Vanguards version of it!

  • Mmmm, maybe in parts. listen closely and you'll find intonation issues throughout, but overall I think it's a pretty tight show. In he end, Avon barely won this years BOA competition. Music wise it was very close in the top 3.

  • Suggest you check the BOA website for scores. Avon won by 1.35 points, relatively large spread for BOA

  • I'm just a high school kid so I wouldn't know. It just sounds BEASTY! Best trumpet section I've seen in a high school band ever probably.

  • Thanks DrumManTX. Don't underestimate your opinion; the critics here likely are high school kids too - just not as well-mannered. ;-)

  • Also, what is the title of this show? I can not find it anywhere.

  • The title is Comm-Uniform-ity. FYI, Avon's BOA performances had an even better ending than what was performed in these earlier shows, IMHO.

  • Ohh, that's why the colorguard is dressed in a uniform and shakos in the begining. Thanks!

  • Well thank you. :) That made my day.

  • I'm very aware of BOA. Marcus actually won the music caption and they were 4th. I'm quite a band nerd for my age I've heard.

  • wow guard!and band your sound is amazing!

  • Wow you guys were AMAZING at Grand Nationals this year...I love the masks!!!

  • Hey, question: Are you guys the band Scott Bilbrook writes drill for?

  • Thanks for all the nice comments!

  • wow you guys are amazing! i am in a different marching band. we didn't go to nationals. i see why you did so well! i'm very impressed :)

  • I love the bands who march great and play great music and don't use tons of props!! Congrats on your win at Nationals

  • I am a L.D. Bell parent who wanted to congratulate Avon. I also wanted to let you know how outstanding your band was at BOA Grand Nationals. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen!

  • wow, amazing band! im in a band at pasadena texas and we're the best in our area but man yall would kill us if yall performed at our competition, great job and once again amazing band! oh and your drum major is the best!

  • cool show :) i like Broken Arrow the best (i'm biased) but congrats Avon on another huge win!!! it was a GREAT show.

  • Avon,

I am a Greendale WI band parent. This was our first trip to Grand Nationals.

Your show was unbelievable! I was on the edge of my seat the whole show. Your Color Guard was the best I've ever seen, bar none.

    Congrats on the Win!!!

    Tg

  • Thanks so much!

  • im in north hardins band. we had a good show this year but i regret not being able to see your show in person. im amazed by what this band has done. congrats avon, you deserve it

  • 2 in a row! Can Avon have a 3-peat?

  • I Dont think i was at school that. o well

  • AMAZING!!!

  • As lead trumpet from Warren, your show was an inspiration the entire season, Congrats on all your success

  • Congrats on winning nationals avon you truly are an amazing band. You were my insperation to get better all these years i was in the marching band, and i just want you to know that i really look up to you guys. By the way I'm a senior in the Broken Arrow H.S. marching band and we performed right after you guys in prelims. This makes our third year of getting 6th place at nationals its kinda weird (666) Lol... but anyways congrats again avon you deserved it. ;)

  • Thanks for such nice comments!

  • I think you guys peaked at just the right time. I noticed alot of ties at the top, it could have been close.

  • wow, nice job. Congrats at Grand Nationals. When do you guys start your season? Are you guys an audtioned marching band? how many in the band?

  • This year we started beginning of june. :)

  • we start our season june 1st. no, we're not auditioned, but we do have alternates due to too many in one section. we had 239 total this year including drumline & guard.

  • I love this band! I watched them this weekend at grand nationals and I am soo happy they won!

  • the end is absolutely amazing :D. now i can see why my friends were yelling over facebook about this last night

  • Was there at reginals in Indy for the first time as a parent from another school. I was blown away by your show. I had to check back today to see how you did at Nationals. Not surprised to learn that you won. Congrats on an awesome program!

  • insane.

what do they have on their heads toward the end?

  • Gold Masks

  • Congrats, and thanks for letting us use your school- you rule

  • I absolutely LOVED Avon's show at the BOA Grand Nationals last night! Congrats to an AMAZING band for winning!~

  • Talk about power.

  • Congratulations Avon for winning the BOA Championship again this year!!!

  • jw are your color guard ninjas(sweet) saw you guy perform grand national prelims online and was absolutely bowln away you were by far my favorite band there and i thought you had the coolest show(did you know BA had tails?!?!?!?....)anyway great job and best of luck-belleville east band member

  • Hey WOW!! I'm a saxophone player from Parkway South High School in Missouri and first i would like to thank you for letting us practice on your field and use your great facilities befores we prefomed at the Indy BOA reignals and second of all I and many other members of the Parkway South Spirit of '76 agree that you have an amazing show and sound and are glad you won BOA reignals in Indy. I give the best of luck to this following week and weekend in Finals and hope you win!!!

  • Thanks for such nice comments!!

  • very nice sound

  • well... In most spots anyhow. I made that comment during the opener. I'm sure yal have done extensive cleaning and altering since then. The intonation seemed to get little by little worse as it went along. Sounded like it was cold, so that's natural for any band. Playing in the cold sucks. Overall very nice and I wish you the best of luck. :)

  • Sorry 19japarrish, I accidentally deleted your comment when trying to respond. There are a few new tweaks to the show and a great new ending, put in for the State Finals and the BOA Grand Nationals. Hope you get to see them sometime! ;-)

19japarrish has made a comment on Avon Marching Black and Gold October 24, 2009: Great job guys i cant wait to see you at nationals!..by the way im assuming this is your entire show is it?

  • Am very anxious to see Avon again at Grand Nats. this Saturday. They are the best. Go marching black and gold!

  • Abssolutely Awesome! Here's to Number 1 at BOA Nationals!

  • I saw the show at BOA on Saturday, and all I can say is WOW. Amazing band, amazing program, absolutely stunning to watch.

  • I never saw your show, but at warm ups at BoA Regional at Indianapolis, Indiana yesterday, you guys sounded awesome. Never got to see your show, but thanks to Youtube, now I can. Lol. GJ on winning at Indianapolis BoA Regionals, too!

    - Union City High School Sr. Tuba

  • Another amazing show from Avon. State champs last weekend and just won the Indy regional last night. Ready to take on the TX powerhouses and keep the GN title here in Indy. Congrats to everyone involved.

  • Thanks for the nice comments - you know Avon's band!

  • Have enjoyed Avon's performances since 2001 and have watched their amazing rise through the ranks over the years in BOA. I was a BOA competitor and appreciate the effort they put into their shows every year.

  • you guys rock i wish castle was as good as you guys so we could compete

  • Comment removed

  • Poor sport - congratulations on your second place!

  • I don't care about placement. I care about how good one does.

  • man i wish i would get to hear that last chord in person... would have made me have goose bumps probally.

  • i could have the oppertunity to see you guys at Indy, but we don't perform till the afternoon at Indy... and we don;t arrive at Indy till like 11:30ish so yea... by the way im in VJA

  • I wish Texas bands could practice that much.,

  • I KNOW!!! We can only practice like 8 hours a week...

What band are you in SirLunchbox?

  • I used to be in Mansfield HS's band.

Btw, always been a huge LD Bell fan. My junior year one of our directors was dating one of your directors, so all of our stuff(music, drill, etc) was like.. all stuff you guys have done.

  • Oh really? Hahah That's cool. What year was this?

  • What do you guys put on your heads when you put your shakos back on? I can't seeee. Lol

  • Masks - black and gold

  • Wow, that's crazy.

  • I loved CG at finals the music box was awesome! They shoulda got second Avon deserved to win

  • I kno, but instead of thinking that we lost, I think that we are the third best band in the state. Out of the whole indiana, i think that its great that we made this far, and we have such a beautiful show. :)

  • Well then I guess it's a good thing you're not a judge

  • nah

  • That makes so much so sense that it may just be voted as the best statement in the history of earth...I mean who needs amazing music and marching when you have PROPS! Props ALWAYS means that a show is good. And of course they don't have a willingness to work hard and a love for what they do, I mean that's OBVIOUSLY why their show looks and sounds so AWFUL and why audience has HATES IT...oh wait

Grow up...Everyone works hard on their show, no matter what band they're in

  • Comment removed

  • Well We waited and saw, ooooo and survey Says Avon Beat you by a HUGE margin

  • im pretty sure we work hard..... 12 hours or so a week plus a 9 hour or so saturday usually. yep....... but anyway good luck at nationals and hopefully the indiana bands can rock like last year

  • We work uber hard as well, 21 hour weeks, and rediculously long saturdays. good luck to you too. hope u enjoy the state rings (I kno i would have :( )

  • Love the use of Barber in this.

  • Wait. This is all music from SCV 1999.

  • Eh, I'd chalk up a lot of the issues in the performance to the elements (except the moving during the hold, oy). Heck, I'm impressed that they all got their shakos on time, seeing as a few of them rolled away in the wind. Plus, the guard work is far into the difficult end of the spectrum, I think drops while in the wind are acceptable.

And I like the new end of the closer!

  • bad show for the guard! =[

  • That's unneccessary

  • im guessing this got first place right?

  • placings unfortunately cant be posted online. at least not for semistate. next week the state ones can! but it doesnt look like there is going to be any video online of the state performance. =[ ISSMA changed their rules so that you cant record state finals.

  • Wow... That's really cool! It would be difficult to have a mask and toss a saber... Well I don't know, I play trumpet. Hahaha. I really like your show, though! I can't wait to see you guys live in Inidianapolis!!
