  • I would give anything to get to be in a reenactment calvery, I'd even chop off my hair so I would look like a boy, it would be worth it just to get to take part in history like this.

  • Long lines of grey oppose you. You hear the cannons roar. You feel excitement and dread rise in you, you feel adrenaline's sharp sting as you load your rifle. Then the command comes, you dress ranks, you shoulder arms. The first step is always the easiest, slowly you begin before everyone is marching in step and with bravery in their eyes. You hear musket fire to your left, you dare not look. You hear explosions, crackling fire. You know that the almighty awaits you.

  • how do you become part of a reenactment?

  • i cant wait till 145th anniversary!

  • Actually, there were records of many asians living in both the north and south at the time of the war. They worked in both sides' navies. In fact, there is a record of an Asian man who fought in a I Corps regiment on the first day of battle at Gettysburg.

  • hi im the webmaster for the 5th georgia cavalry and was wondering who does the last song on here and what is it called thanks

  • im pretty sure its the rebel national anthem not sure who its bye though

  • "im pretty sure its the rebel national anthem not sure who its bye though "

It's "I'm a Good Old Rebel". It was written by Colonel James Innes Randolph of Virginia, a member of the staff of Gen. J.E.B. Stuart.

Given that Randoph himself was not only the member of a prominent Virginia family with deep colonial roots, but an educated man of letters, some say he wrote the song as a parody of more backwoods, "unreconstructed rebel" types. Thus the poor grammar and syntax.

  • Who sings this? She's a great singer.

  • 1:55 composition is great but I'd rotate it a bit counterclockwise

  • I was there with the 2nd USSS Co. B. That is the United States Sharpshooters. I was a civilian at the event and it took my breathe away. These pictures were phenomenal. Hats off to all of the other re-enactors there in that weather and everything.

  • They were working on the rail road

  • Hey gang, for everyone who was there at the 145th check out and comment on my videos of our trip to the reeanctment and battlefield.

  • After being on the Angle in the 135th...it's not the same, but who cares! better to burn powder than collect stamps.

  • We had nearly 14,000 infantry on the field, but you're right. It still didn't compare to ten years ago as far as the numbers and what we saw. As for the overall event, I think the 145th topped it for atmosphere and little fuss.

  • nice vid.. me and friends were there but are confederates.. 19th la!!!

  • Well done. I am biased however since my brother and I are in alot of the Confederate pictures.

  • People who want to look at the pictures that the video came from should go to the blogpost link I put in the video write-up. There, they will find a link to the gallery of pictures. Feel free to use them as you wish, but I do ask that if you use them in a publication, you let me know so I can put that on my resume.

  • hey I found a picture of me!

    1:52-1:57

  • btw, checked out your blog, found me in one of the pics, nice shots!

  • hey, at 4:54, what flank was that (as seen from the camera) was it the far left?

  • What a great event that was. Had a fantastic time. Huckabee's Division represented the Southern forces very well on the field all three days. Pickett's Charge was simply amazing. One of the best ever! I'm glad everyone else had a good time.

  • 14th Brooklyn Red Legged Devils are ALL over the place in your video! AWESOME. Its about time my boys got some video time, we always hit the cutting room floor. I mean the original unit fought all three days at the battle.. One of only two that did it. 14th! 14th! 14th!

Captain Frank J. Ruiz Jr. 14th Brooklyn NYSM

  • After 6 days up there, finally got in at 11:30 monday night from Gettysburg. I'm not too fond of Mainstream events after the 135th events, but this was well worth it! Great event and had a blast!! See you in 5 years!! -Cpl. 8th OVI, National Regiment

(We were the ones who set the house on fire during sunday's fight) =)

  • Well, regarding the "bias," that is just the function of having to take photographs from the grandstand. It would have been nice if I could have moved around, but "rules are rules."

Regarding the other comment, can't people simply enjoy something that is picturesque and "fun" without bringing up politics? I guess not.

  • @maskirovka77 onore a questi soldati che anno dato il loro sangue per una giusta causa

  • I was there since last Thursday with the 26th NCT camped in the woods and the rain.we brought in 210 reenactors, two less than the original 26 had on the third day.I would like to thank the town of Gettysburg for their hospitality, and for the event and especially the ICE and water.

    go Tarheels!

we'll see you at the 150th!!

  • Woot Woot

    So was I, Go Artillery

  • I was there too! I had a lot of fun! I recorded the Battle on the first day, so that video should be up soon ;) I got on of the Invantryman's Hats, it was at that one vendor, who had the really good stuff. It was made exactly the same way as they would have been.

For all of you who were in the Battle, you did SUCH A GOOD JOB!!

  • this was a lot of fun-

    i was confederate cannons

and the first day and last day's

    battles were deffintley the best.

    satturdays,

    it kinda sucked...

  • I just got home from this event at 5am and it was worth the nights in the rain, the sleepless nights, and the 12 hour one way drive. Thanks to all the reenactors and staff that made this event so great
