It is pretty obvious that for free market capitalism to work, companies need to be motivated in such a way that their best outcomes are outcomes the rest of us would find acceptable. By way of analogy, society should reward better the person who saves up and buys a VCR more than the person who breaks a window and takes one. Similarly, companies who use safe mining techniques that don't drop arsenic in drinking water should find that's a competitive advantage.

There's an interview with a woman from the BBC on yt somewhere. He openly talks about the utopia he envisions. It's pretty sad watching a clearly intelligent man turn a blind eye to the inescapable reality of life and chose some fantasy life we everyone lives by utopian ideas. Wishful thinking.

The state promoting "free markets" in "neoliberalism" is like the church promoting sex in marriage. Just like sex the "free market" is an exchange between parties. In the former or latter, the state or church controls the exchange by the enforcement of regulation or dogma. We can't leave out the global banks, for those exchanges that require financing; if the bank says no, the party is over. Now the state is the church, banks are God, and we still have sinners. Are we ever going to have utopia?
