this is just amazing. i'm listening to this for study, but its helped me so much musically and technically. i've been looking for recordings of the rode caprices. thanks so much, you are amazing, and shumsky is beautiful and delicious.
It is interesting to note that he is using Pierre Rodes own Stradivari in these recordings. His violin was a Stradivari of 1715 known as 'Ex-Pierre Rode' or the 'Duke of Cambridge' (source from Wikipedia).
This is a treat. I played these as a violin student (but not anywhere near so well as this). If you haven't already, check out Shumsky's recording of the Bach sonatas & partitas--it's one of my faves.

Wonderful to hear. These same studies have been transcribed for clarinet and form an important foundation for clarinet study as well.
I will now direct mine to listen to Shumsky to hear how the same music can become magical in the hands of a great violinist.

I am pretty sure he is playing on a Stradivarius violin.

the trills sometimes sound like birds warbling. his violin sounds so pure. what violin does he has anyone know?

I have read that Leonid Kogan loved those caprices wery much and played all of them every day.

certain partiality towards some etudes and caprices are ok, but playing through all of them everyday is just a bit too much for me.
