For what it's worth, swap out the prop for the next lower pitch and you'll be able to run that engine at full throttle where the full 3.5hp is, without it bogging down, and, you'll have better thrust into the wind.
Good luck with the pole mounts. One other thing about the motor, if you go over to Nissan Marine's website, you can download the owner's manual for free.
Good info, thanks, I wasnt thinking about the reverse. So Instead what I did was mount some pole holders on the seat. Now I have to figure out how to secure the seat really good. I dont trust those plastic tabs with a $600. fishing pole hooked up to it.
Buy yeah, I dont have a motor cover, and I thought its a nissan but it says NS3.5A. I wonder if operating in Salt Water would hurt it at all without the cover
NS is Nissan Marine's model designation. you have the Nissan 3.5 HP. Salt water should not hurt it as long as you take care of it, rinse it off, and run it in a bucket of fresh water once in a while. I ran mine in brackish water and it did just fine.
if I mount a fishing pole holder to the motor mount where the two holes are, where you have the plastic plugs, the fishing poles wont be in the way will they. I have the same set up you have, but I want to turn it into a fishing boat for inner shorline fishing in hawaii. Think it will work
Do you know if the 1993 3.5hp motor looks the same as the 2002 model. I recieved one for free but it has no case, but the face looks the same. Trying to figure what I have.
It could be a 2.5 HP or the 3.5 HP. The difference for this engine was the carburetor. These engines were made by Tohatsu, but also sold as Nissan (like mine in the video) or Mercury.

Yep, that is indeed for the choke. Mine liked to stayed choked for a minute or two as well before it was fully warmed up and ready to go. What I really liked about mine was how little fuel it burned. I spent a day on a lake fishing and burned maybe a quart.

not the motor cover but the hard wood thats manufactured on the back of the boat that the boat clamp mounts to.

Oh, then that should be fine. Just be sure that it will clear the motor. It does not have reverse, so the motor will spin around 360 degrees.

I'm not sure where you are referring to? If it is to the motor cover, then probably not. It's simply a plastic shell screwed to the motor.
