of our very finest exponents of Dance - the Diva Padmini, who performs in ' Pardesi.'

so glad to have the opportunity to see this once again, to enjoy the Song & Dance.

  • can't seem to be able to post a link here just search for this on youtube-PADMINI in Soviet film 1958 Parting

  • In this black and white hidi version, Padmini looks so fat. but just see the other Rrussian version in color,in which she looks so slim aroung the hips. I wonder the Russian guys altered? i am not sure.

This film didn't pay off its budget but simply left record between two nation's cultural exchange and cooperation. It has Russian,Hindi dialog and in black & white. • Chamogaa.... Hummm....sound like character from Rudyard Kipling's Jungle book?

  • Masterpiece... Thanks for sharing.

  • A jewel.

  • bollywood is nothing like this anymore...all good things have to come to an end though..beautiful song

  • You are abslutley right! When people learn I don't like Bollywood, they are shocked. America is a country that doesn't realize how special the industry was back in the 1950's. "Pardesi" is one of the first international film projects and still holds special significance due to the tight bond between Russia and India. The navigator, Pardesi is a symbol of that relationship.

  • PARDESI (1957)

NARGIS, BALRAJ SAHNI, JAIRAJ, PADMINI, PRITHVIRAJ, DAVID

    Produced By: NAYA SANSAR

    Directed By: K. A. ABBAS

    Music By: ANIL BISWAS

    SOCIAL ***

  • anil biswas has used a mridangam instead of the usual tabla or even pakhavaj.

  • song is so very rhythmic yet extremely soft.

  • Apart from melodies and dances the story of Pardesi was very touching. I remember one dialogue where Nargis, after knowing that Oleague (pardesi) lives in the country of ice (Russia), asks him "Pardesi, burf kaisi hoti hay?" and he looks in the room to find any white thing and suddenly notices pearl white teeth of Nargis and says "In jaisi", which makes Nargis very shy.

  • Thanks for sharing. beautiful thillana/tarana !
