  • In Cold Blood humanizes a murderer. It does not sympathize with murderers though. There shouldn't be an arguement there. And Capote didn't fall in love with a murderer Vito. It was Capote who left Perry out to dry after he repeatedly lied to him and got all the information from him. All capote cared about was his book.

  • This book should be banned by the government! It's a book of propaganda. Written to fool people into sympathizing with cold blooded killers (and criminals!) In this way "In Cold Blood" is no different then "Mein Kampf", and Copote no different then Hitler! Ever wonder why our prison system has traded their bars for a revolving door! Why a "life sentence" is now used merely as a figure of speech? That's the power of literature; and with power comes responsibility! Gov's job: Protect the public!

  • @brassmonkeyjew

only a fascist can talk about books being banned..Middle Ages..

have you ever red a book in your life?

    actually...can you reed?

  • No i do not know how to "reed". Nor have i ever "red" a book in my life, But i do know how to read. And have read many books, this one included...

  • I do apologize for my english, that is awfull, but i am italian...i still doubt that you ever read a book...no one that loves books and reading could talk that way..and really comparing cold blood to mein kempf makes me laugh..have you read it? probably not

  • Fahrenheit 451 Ray Bradbury...

    if you learn to read

  • Are you totally nuts! I think you are such a right wing conservative that Hitler comes right next to YOU.

How can you compare "In Cold blood", the complexe discribtion of a crime and the complexity of human character with the hate propaganda of "Mein Kampf".

I haven´t had the impression that "In Cold Blood" propagates, that murderers shouldn´t be punished.

It just shows that they are also human with feelings and motivation and not simply monsters.

  • @VitoPossilipo

It takes a criminal minds to sympathize with a criminal, nay killer. And therefore Capote is just as evil as the killer he fell in loved with! And it appears you share the same criminal mentality as well. For only a criminal would defend one!

  • Thank you for your answer.

I am defending no criminal, I just stated that "In Cold Blood" is in no way a book that says criminals shouldn´t be punished. But it is a book about the ambivalence of human nature, that shows that even murderers are not only evil.

P.S.: Haven´t you heard what Capote says in the clip this comment table is referring to? He is in favor for death penalty, if it prevents future killings and that he is against an to early release of murderers.

  • Bloomin heck.

Put some strong points across there.

  • The full depth of Capote needs to be realized in the context of his homosexual relations with at least 1 of the 2.

  • There is no prove of that. But he definitly became a friend of Perry Smith, one of the murderers.

  • did he say it was self defense on perrys part???

  • He meant making jokes was a self-defense mechanism when you're being hanged to death in 5 minutes.

  • Very good points made

  • INFAMOUS is capote-light. very poorly done.

  • capote was flamboyant but the movie was over the top, they didn't seem to get he wasn't a transvestite with all the woman clothes they put him in XD

  • First I have to disagree with you because you are wrong and offer nothing to support your position. It is opinion.

Second I must disagree simply because you are confusing fiction and reality.

Third I must disagree because this clip is about Capote's views on capital crime, and you are talking about a film.

Fourth I must say that the film Infamous was entertaining and introduced to audiences Toby Jones.

Fifth I should say the Capote film was also very entertaining and showcased PS Hoffman.

  • i'm sorry, you must be confusing me with someone that gives a shit.

  • got that right! ;)

  • what are you going on about?

  • Fortunately for sane people, the bible isn't law.

  • "Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." No, "if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink; for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads."...overcome evil with good."

  • Kinda hard for a dead man to get revenge, kinda hard for a dead man to overcome evil with good, ever thought of that?

  • Most so called Christians don´t care what it is written in the Bible.

  • sheep are my friends and I like to talk to sheep and sheep are my friends

  • I beg your pardon?

  • lol you nutty person.:D

  • He had such an admirable style of writing that was nearly surgical.

  • I couldn't agree more. If anything, Toby Jones' totally nailed this guy's voice and mannerisms. A perfect mimic. Who had the best performance? I suppose that's debatable.

  • Toby Jones was better as an imitation, but I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman gave a better stand-alone performance, nuance, deeper level characterization and so forth. And Capote turns out as a vastly better movie.

  • Nirvanarain...thanks for mentioning the sobbing sounds...it was driving me crazy. I thought it was hard heavy breathing ..but it is sobbing!..........I admit I did not read the book until after the movie on Capote came out....EXCELLENT

  • It's not sobbing. It's the sound of Truman inhaling before he speaks.

  • AH, the fascinations of human nature

  • Can anyone hear the sobbing sounds? Capote was a very highly intelligent man, smart and versatile to the roof, and an amazing writer. Whether or not he manipulated folks I do not know, but to me he was great.

  • ...with an assassin!!!...Well, in my opinion "In cold blood" is the best north american novel of second half of the 20th century.

  • i've never read "in cold blood" or any book by truman capote. IN fact i'd never heard anything of him until very recently. Is it really THAT good? I want to read a good book. I'm fed up buying crap that looks good and then disapoints. How would it rate alongside "to kill a mockingbird" for instance?... which of his books do you favour most?

  • "To kill a mockingbird" is a good work, but "In cold blood"...well, it´s fuckin' out of this world! Trust me lad.

    So long!

  • It's incredibly unique. Guy was... he was a true artist in his form, and we're better in literature for having his contributions.

  • The first time i read "in cold blood" i was 15. Now i'm 32. I can still remember those days with all details. As Truman, i "fell in love" with Perry Smith...

  • I agree. I just watched Infanous on Thai pay TV. Toby Jones fine performance.

    Gotta read the book now.

  • What was the joke?

  • Amazing to see this video!

  • Wow. Watching this makes me realize how well Phillip Seymour Hoffman played him in Capote. Just amazing.

  • If you think that was amazing, you should see Toby Jones' performance in INFAMOUS.

  • yeah i'm also really really impressed by the acting work of Hoffman! Brillian!
