@feilog blazblue is more of a serious fighters game, ifyou get continuum shift itll have a tutorial to its styles but its not as easy as street fighter. mastering 1 char like on SF isnt being able to use half the roster as the same, each is unique in its ways but in most aspects its a medium learning curve for most things.
@Gallade632 I accidently posted PS2 when it should be PS3, I'm sorry in advance for anyone who read that message and got the wrong idea. I wish it was for PS2 though! :D
I dunno how old this game is or anything but i found about it on accident....do you use the analog stick, arrows, or both when you play this game? (someone answer plz)
blue tao... sonic adventure music... intentional surely :D
great and flashy combo's that i'm sure i'll wind up breaking my fingers out of frustration trying to get them down... and there's still expert to go T_T
I've loved fighting games with a passion, above all other genres, the length of my life.
I've dedicated hundreds of hours to countless different series, but I've naught been able to ever be a match for anyone (even beginner friends) that I come up against.
And, now, here I am, with my newly found favorite fighting game character, Taokaka, and I've been able to make sense out of none of this series of videos, other than some combos that are just plain obvious.
Tao is probably the most complex character when it comes to combos. she's so fast her moves come out in a blur and you have to pay really close attention to catch even a fraction of it. really the best way to get good with Tao is to practice your combos in game.
That pile driver throw of Tao's looks so cool, at the end of the video. Tao is probably going to be my third best character. I only play against the computer and I use mostly Noel and Arukane (probably didn't spell that right).
if you use Noel and Arakune, you'll probably break your teeth on Tao. you have to play her religiously to get good with her. and once you do you'll never want to play anyone else.
in his description he has dustloop listed there, fantastic blazblue reference for characters and a nice beg-> adv guide for taokaka (which these videos were made for). I only know this because I picked up tao to learn her pressure game (I'm a rachel player :3 )
Tao is more crossup than anything. If you're looking for pressure, you should be right at home with Rachel. Tao doesn't have enough hit boxes to be as efficient at pressure game as Rachel.
@toomanygoats Oh I know this already, it's just rachel is good at keeping pressure, but also has to be able to deal with even the smallest pressure. So i'm learning all of tao's pressure strings and cross ups so I'm that when I pull my pumpkin out on a tao, it WILL hit, and the tao WILL lose a good majority of their health :3
@toomanygoats but ty for the advice, lol I don't have many REAL good tao players I can find on Live to help out, but I also like the hands on experience.
a really good Tao is unbeatable. you would have to predict what she is going to do in order to stop it, which is damn near impossible (unless you get lucky and hit her out of something). GL though. you're going to need it.
@toomanygoats bahahaha, I've seen too many tao's these days who aren't so quick to jump around and be "unpredictable" with three poles, pumpkin, and sweet ol' george keepin her in check with my rachel sleeping in between catpunches cause i'm trolling. Though, I will admit tao matches are always fun as long as I tone down my mind games or else spectating.
@toomanygoats actually let me apologize, I'm just being a Rachel elitist haha, in the end between really good players it comes down to whoever slips up. That's simply it, good players know all the cards each char has to throw down and has to learn to exploit their opponent and protect their own weaknesses. It's just a little more fun to pick a char who appeals to our style more, though technically we could play whoever we want and do just as well.
then you've obviously never fought my Tao. i don't give a shit what you throw down. i'm going to do what i'm going to do, and it better work or i'll be surprised/depressed. Rachel's traps don't phase me at all. Tao also has a lot of tricks to trick you into thinking that she's going to do one thing, then do something else entirely. And i'm not just being a Taokaka elitist. Rachel used to be my submain before i devoted myself entirely to Taokaka.
and in the case of protecting weaknesses, Taokaka has a lot more she needs to keep in mind than everyone else. But I agree with you. I tried playing Ragna and was saddened to find that his combos are almost laughably easy compared to Tao's (in my opinion). It was hard to get used to not going omgsuperfast all the time, though. =)
@toomanygoats hahaha, yeahh yeahhh, plus we wouldn't be playing a 2d fighter if we didn't like smack talking either right? Hell, talking shit is half the fun on ranked ;). Especially with the plague of ragnas and tagers on Live. I would've subbed Tao but going from Rachel's constant awareness and tracking of my own poles/pump&george positions, as well as learning IB's for other chars, Tao's endless amount of mixups during combos was a bit much for me to feel like mastering.
@toomanygoats I will say we should go for a few matches in a week or two (finals in college 0_o) but when that's over as long as you cut me some slack to get back into my groove after a 2 month break and install my new sanwa parts I'm looking forward to some possible fun Tao matches :3
@toomanygoats bahahaha don't you tempt me, I plan on milking every last inch of Rachel's god tier before CS takes a baseball bat to her kneecaps. At least even cs rachel still takes skill to do well... unlike a certain one combo character i can think of..... lololol
ok so I hate to sound stupid and noobish but here it goes. I notice people sometimes say use "5B" or something like that. what does that mean I only know 6B is hakumen stomp. Any help?
Think of 5 as the middle of the joystick. "2" is DOWN, 8 is UP, 3 is DOWN FORWARD, 4 is BACK, etc. Its very easy to understand. a, b, c, d is self explanitory.
@Tritaga Thanks I kinda get in but with what you told me I should be able to learn it. Thank you very much. =) oh wait I'm looking at it right now and I GET IT! OMG! THANKS A BUNCH!
True a lot of this combos you can recover from :/ i had to find out the hard way. i know the buttons and in training i hit them ever ytime but in online matches they recover
Lag dude. Plus if you have a HDTV you'll have translation lag. You have to compensate ALOT with that lag, since drive cancels only have a measly 3 frames to let you do you abc cancel. They dont recover, these are foolproof, you just have to do them right. -__-""..
@Tritaga not always true, a well placed burst or a tager mainer can predict a frame to attack, don't get me wrong, im not knocking your skill or bashing your combos or anything but use tager in training with a second person & have them constantly do the normal tager driver (not the buster) & you'll see he'll grab you in the middle of your combos which seems like a bunch of bullshit until u try it, hakumen can do it to, he can interrupt combos like geese with his counter but chances (continued)
@Tritaga (continued) of playing someone with that much skill has diminished alot in CT because everyone in the friendly matches boots layers other than their friends & people who got the combo trophies for nu & hakumen, & in ranked matches people ragequit so fast its scary
Hate fighting tao players online every time i try to perform a combo or hit them the speed toa has always make it turn out to be a counter, also she's everywhere across the screen, she's a sweet character but daammm you gatta be careful looks can be deceiving.
Taunt combos are almost impossible to pull off online unless you are fighting a true noob.....Or perhaps I'm the noob lol........Doesn't matter though my tao is topnotch.
lol.. its not cakewalk though. The only "easy" taunt combo is to go "Almost becoming two" then taunt and hexaedge. Otherwise, you taunt after CORRECTLY canceled drive combo's, and after air throw's with excellent timing.
I agree with Keisukechan, its one of the reasons i picked up Carl. All the bad lag makes it hard to pwn with Tao. Not i got to work about ppl trying to zone me out when i'm Carl :(
Hopefully someone will answer my question, but how do you toss in the little punch in 1:20 to continue the second special? I can do like everythin else just can't plug in small hits to start 9D combos like coming from 2D from a mid air combo, C and than start 9D. How do you plug in the C before they recover after 2D?
You might need to start at the Intermediate combo's first, from the looks of it. the "punch" at 1:20 is taunt, or the "start" button. It has to be timed well.
nice combos, but i don't dare try and do these online. i can't even count the number of times i've tried to take a well practiced taunt combo online and fail misreably. i always end up having to default to the standard stuff that doesn't require pin point precision while compensating for crappy lag. i think i've only encounted green latency bars maybe...10 times out of 950-ish ranked matches i've played.
I can't get the timing right on the j.2D~b. It keeps coming out as a normal down drive, uncanceled. When should you even start inputing the j.2D~b? Right after inputing j.236b or a bit afterwards?
I've been pulling my hair out over this combo cause I feel like I'm doing everything right. I'm trying to pull the drive~b cancel as fast as I can but nothing... So it must be some weird timing I guess.... Someone help. :S
wow one thing i notice is how accurate taoftw inputs are .... 0__0 so damn percise like it doesn't even look like he double tap once lol omfg ... so sick . :3
(I'm a level30 Tao player, but I seriously gave myself some full blown carpal tunnel symptoms in my right hand. The 6 button layout just wasn't agreeing with my thumb.)
So I went out and grabbed a SF4TE, but given that I've never played stick before, and that it's got a square restrictor plate. (Octo and Circle in the mail) Having a lot of trouble pulling off basic fireball routines. Much less quick distortions.
I can't imagine doing some of these combos, especially some of the taunt ones on anything other than a stick. I been using a fightpad and while its better than a 360 controller, its just not enough so I intend to get a TE stick too. Hope it's worth it. Your comment about the restrictor plates scare me though. Square ain't cutting it? Easy mod hopefully...
jesus christ even with her health, its a wonder she isn't considered god tier. I swear its ridiculous how easy her combos can trim off so much of your health.
hope you're not implying Taokaka's combos are easy. And anyways, I don't think any of those taunt combos are actually practical in a real brawl. I haven't seen much use of them in tournaments at the very least...
Thats not entirely true. Allot of characters require more timing , which is significantly harder than memorizing something. Bangs bnb combos for instance require you to dash at the very first frames available. Do it to early you don't dash at all. You have an incredibly small window to do it. To top it off right after you have to let go and do neutral attack follow ups. Just saying the attacks dont look like they require anywhere near talented timing.
toakaka, is something you don't mess with~

I hate trying to do anything beyond average because I know I'll delay and get punished for it.
I've played around 600 ranked matches myself.

Freaking favorite'd.
As a fellow Tao main, I'd love to meet TaoFTW and shake his/her hand. Phenomenal stuff. Love beating them Jins online with a "crappy" character. ;)
StrangeAxel 2 years ago
tao is not crappy
darknessredefine 2 years ago
TaoFTW plays at Sunnyvale Golfland, but he doesn't go very much anymore since blazblue came out on console.
But a number of top players still go if you're anywhere around Sunnyvale, California.

Actually, the more accurate answer is that I'm working two jobs and can't fit in the time to play BB at SVGL.
Also, since there's lack of competition right now, I usually don't stick around for too long. :/

How do I land this combo with Tao:
3c -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> j.236b -> j.2D~b -> 5c

Man... I wish these combos worked on Carl. Carl falls weird so it's really tough to catch him in any good combos.

So what controller are you using for this?
A SF4 TE, or a SF4 FightPad?
(I'm a level30 Tao player, but I seriously gave myself some full blown carpal tunnel symptoms in my right hand. The 6 button layout just wasn't agreeing with my thumb.)
So I went out and grabbed a SF4TE, but given that I've never played stick before, and that it's got a square restrictor plate. (Octo and Circle in the mail) Having a lot of trouble pulling off basic fireball routines. Much less quick distortions.
greyflcn 2 years ago
I can't imagine doing some of these combos, especially some of the taunt ones on anything other than a stick. I been using a fightpad and while its better than a 360 controller, its just not enough so I intend to get a TE stick too. Hope it's worth it. Your comment about the restrictor plates scare me though. Square ain't cutting it? Easy mod hopefully...
ApolloSol 2 years ago
He's definitely using a stick. It's a Saulabi modded with Sanwa parts.
XtraZero 2 years ago
Actually, I'm using a modded SE IV stick and TE stick.
I left the Saulabi stick for GGAC only.
llamastrike 2 years ago
Oh yeah that was for PS2 huh?

jesus christ even with her health, its a wonder she isn't considered god tier. I swear its ridiculous how easy her combos can trim off so much of your health.
TheDarkWall 2 years ago
Its all in the hands of the user man :/ XD
There could be a godly Tao out there, but if there is some absolutely insane stupid Bang player, he can get around. Its really up to your skill :)
Tritaga 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
of course this is true, its just as a bang user, its annoying how she does almost everything better than him, with sooooo much less skill required.
TheDarkWall 2 years ago
hope you're not implying Taokaka's combos are easy. And anyways, I don't think any of those taunt combos are actually practical in a real brawl. I haven't seen much use of them in tournaments at the very least...
ApolloSol 2 years ago
well hers seem like they're mainly memorization more than anything.
TheDarkWall 2 years ago
All combos are pretty much memorization dependent/focused. Muscle and brain memory.
Taokaka can do great damage but she obviously needs to land way more hits in her combos than others which means more commands that need to be done.
Now V-13.......... That's god-tier right there. O.O
ApolloSol 2 years ago
Thats not entirely true. Allot of characters require more timing , which is significantly harder than memorizing something. Bangs bnb combos for instance require you to dash at the very first frames available. Do it to early you don't dash at all. You have an incredibly small window to do it. To top it off right after you have to let go and do neutral attack follow ups. Just saying the attacks dont look like they require anywhere near talented timing.
TheDarkWall 2 years ago
the taunt combos are pretty hard to land
jacob1o1 2 years ago
"A lot" /cough/ I'd say the difficulty for timing and memorization for each character is generally the same.

Lies and slander!

Timing is her thing. Drive cancels are tough.
Beikho 2 years ago
If you look up a japanese Taokaka player named Kazu(hira). He regularly uses taunt combos off a 6a's and other highly prorated combos.
