Whether it is prescribed pain meds or some kind of illicit drug, or alcohol. Pro atheletes in general, hockey in specific, use for pain maintenance. I remember these fights well from when I was a kid. The idea that Crowder jumped Probert is a joke and totally unfair as everyone knew what was coming in this game and Probert was sent on the ice at the end of Crowder's first shift to fight him so any disadvantage in the second bout was evened out. Both were great fighters, though Probert really benefitted from always stripping off his jersey which was later ruled illegal by the NHL. Probert would later call Crowder great fighter.

How do I explain...Probert was a great fighter, I said that above. Fact remains that in many rights he basically disrobed so his opponent would have nothing to hold onto, gave him a key advantage. Probert was the much better enforcer because he enjoyed the job more and was much much better player than Crowder, but if Probert would have fought Crowder straight up, ten times, Crowder would win 6 or 7 of them.
