  • Baaad-Aaaasssss!

  • I gotta start saving up for this!!! my wife is gonna hate me :D hahahaha

  • OMG theFilter pedal I have ever heard. Thanks for the post. And if you want any cash...Let me know asap...haaa

  • @badhandtim Hahah. Isn't it your birthday today? Treat yourself.. :)

  • so basically its a simple envelope filter with the added feature of zvex's ooh wah random setting?

  • i can't stop listening to this demo.....it's such a great effect, love the tap switch! the sounds are very acid jazzish <3

  • this is just too cool!!!

  • gimme circut now, pls.

  • Also, looking a a synth pedal with something like Moog solo sound. Have a recommendation? Thx.

  • @pitchyellow No, but if you find one, let me know would you? Heheh. I think EHX offer boxes along that line, no?

  • @pitchyellow Moogerfooger pedals? With the freqbox and lowpass filter it should sound very moog.

  • @pitchyellow dude check these out: the moog guitar and microsynth by electroharmonix

  • Contact Subdecay for a % cut. I just bought one strictly based on your demo.

  • Ah ... it's nice to see that someone has seen fit to clone the Xotic Robotalk (which is essentially what this is, w/a tap tempo additional). I've got an original Robotalk, and it's a great pedal, however, for those not fortunate enough to have gotten one from the first batch, don't bother with the Robotalk 2, as it's a different animal without the ultra cool knocking noises of the random arpeggiator. This is the one to go for. 'Nother nice demo Burgerman666 ... thanks again!

  • @vampyros1 I think you might find that the Robotalk was an improved 'clone' of the Oberheim VCF200 which in turn was a clone of the Maestro FSH-1, built earlier still. Thanks for the props. :)

  • @vampyros1 The proteus has absolutely nothing in common with the Robotalk.

  • @subdecay Pt. 1.) You're wrong; here's why: 1.) Both units have a sample/hold function. 2.) Both units have an envelope follower function. 3.) Those two aspects, the predominant sounds of each unit, sound extremely similar (clean or distorted).

  • @vampyros1 Like i said in my other comment... YOU SAID IT WAS A CLONE. It's not. Are all overdrives with a level:tone:gain control with 3 knobs in a row clones of each other? NO they aren't. The robotalk was not the first filter with a S/H and enevelop feature, and I'm sure the proteus won't be the last.

  • @subdecay I see; you said the two units have "absolutely nothing in common", when what you meant was they don't have everything in common (which are two very different things). Regardless of any cirquit differential, that the two sound very similar is not a bad thing given that Xotic discontinued the Robotalk and replaced it w/an inferior successor. The footprint could've been done a # of different ways; yours looks nothing like any that preceeded the Robotalk.

  • @subdecay Pt. 2.) Evidently someone at Subdecay was fond of the Robotalk, because the Proteus was aesthetically fashioned after it all the way down to the horizontal footprint and the knob layout (a departure from other Subdecay pedals). I'll retract the term "clone", but your assertion that the Proteus has "absolutely nothing" in common with it's predecessor is blatantly false.

  • @vampyros1 I own Subdecay AND designed the pedal. The footprint is a product of the actual mechanics of fitting the hardware in a small enclosure. Quite simply there's no other way to do it without putting switches next to each other, or knobs next to switches, or input jacks on the front of the pedal.

When I said "absolutely nothing" I was addressing your claim that it was a clone. The circuit is completely different, designed from the ground up, not a robotalk, FSH or anything else.

  • Thanks amigo! They say it can run on 12v for increased headroom and up to 15v without damage. I may try that. It's more fun than a barrel of monkeys but it seems like the depth of what I would call the 'auto wah' (not the sample/hold) is not as prounounced as yours, but maybe it's the guitar's pickups that are making the difference. Hmmmm.... regardless... it's a gas!! Also a quick thanks for the Semaphore demos.. I got one and man oh man is that versatility in a can!!! Thanks again!!

  • Awesome demo as always Brett! ;-) Where do you get those fabulous flying fingers?! ;-) Quick question... did you run the Proteus on 9V or 12V for this demo?

    Thanks!!

  • @3dsman Thanks! Proteus ran on 9V for this one. :)

  • @3dsman One last thought. Can you imagine if they added an input for an expression pedal? Changing the rate on the s/h while playing would be really cool.

All the best from Texas!! Keith

  • Hey Keith, how's Texas today? :) Nice suggestion re the rate/Exp pedal. I'm sure Brian has considered it though and it may be an inner real estate issue. I know he wanted to keep this baby inside a small case. Wait for the Deluxe Quasar. I'm told, in Brian's own words, that it's "insane." You will see it here first - I think! :)

  • @Burgerman666 Surprisingly cool and a bit rainy here in the DFW area. I'm sure you're right about the space considerations.. box is way too small for any more features than what's there already. Still, it would be fun to start a solo with the s/h at one speed and then 'dime it' (as everyone seems to say these days) at the peak of the solo. Looking forward to the Deluxe Quasar demo... as with all your demos, I'm sure it'll be a treat!! Keep 'em coming!!

  • No gear product demo is complete without a great vid from Brett and I'm always looking forward to hearing one from him everytime there's a new boutique pedal out. : ) Brett, if you're reading this, may I know how you are recording your demos? They're very clear-sounding for a youtube file. Are they labor-intensive? Sorry, I'm quite a "technology-challenged" guy.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I do my best! I use a good mic (Violet Design "The Amethyst') up close to the speaker. It goes to an M-Audio ProFire 610 and I make sure it doesn't clip. I use Logic 8.02 on a MacBook Pro and put a little compression over the input strip to keep levels and tones even. On the output strip I use a Waves L2 Limiter to bring up levels and stop clipping. I don't slam it enough to compress, just make it louder. Not much really, eh? Cheers, BK.

  • Nothing I love more than a good Dirt Frenzy :)

  • @Burgerman666

    I love your videos.

and I wanted to ask you to make a video about the Zenith Overdrive By Art Effect this is a wonderful pedal and the videos i had seen were not so good.

by the way this pedal is made in Israel[i am from Israel],and one last thing i'd like you to recommend about a dist\wha\Boost pedals.

    thanks.

  • Hey, I'd be happy to make that video for you but I've never heard of them and I certainly don't have access to one. So it could be tough.. I'll write them an email and check it out for you. :)

    Cheers.

  • cool pedal brett!

    great demo as always :)

  • Thanks Mark. It's great fun. Greetings to my friends in the Philipines. :)

  • pure lust!

  • this thing will not be cheap.

  • I don't think it will be expensive either. ;)

  • How awesome is that thing???

  • Is this like a simpler Proteus or am I being stoooopid?

  • Spot on. Slightly revoiced, easier to use and with tap tempo.

  • Awesome video and awesome pedal :D

    Thanks for your demos¡

  • You're very welcome. Thanks for watching. :)

  • I always wish these things had a mix knob to mix it in for some more subtle work.

  • Sounds Gooooooood!

I hope its affordable when in comes out, most of

these envelope filter pedals end up costing as

    much as an amp.

  • Should be sub US$200.00. Pretty good for what you get.

  • @Burgerman666

That's great news! definitely gonna keep an

    eye on their HP, thnks.

  • I thought I was the only guy in the world who really digs the Stormbringer album. Very cool Brett!

  • I first heard that album in '77. It remains on my iPod to this day. It and 'Burn'. Rawk!! :)

  • dude the tap tempo was awesome. so much want

  • So, a simplified Prometheus with a footswitch (and tap tempo obviously) for the randomized step mode?

    Pretty cool. Thanks for posting.
