How is the css-5 noise wise with lower ambiences? I've heard in wide mode it is pretty noisy, but I have also heard people say in 'normal' mode it is fine....trying hard to find some quiet audio examples, but having a hell of time.
Also I think youtube compressed the audio a bit in this video so I can really gauge it with this:(
I'll do a quick recording for you comparing the wide to normal modes on the CSS-5. How quiet of an ambience are you talking about? Just outside quieter ambience, or as quiet as room tone?
@hartcolin Today must be my lucky day as I was looking for the same thing as the other poster. Thanks for uploading it. The wide mode does sound a tad bit noisier, in my opinion, but would want to test it a bit more in my hands before making such an assumption.
Sounded like you are really pumping the gain for that ambience? What is the 744's gain at? High 50s?
I would love to download some of these recordings, would it be ok if I did?

I had the pres up around 45 or 50. Never worry too much about the SD pres because they're so quiet!
