Hey Matt, I think you are very talented, you have that old school comic art thing going on . I would be most interested if you could draw and make a video of Daredevil from Marvel or the Mask from Darkhoarse comics Do you think you could?????
@MinorKeyDancing, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Just a reminder, though... I don't really suggest using a toothpick, as it's not a great tool for drawing. It works much better for getting food out from between teeth. Heh. I just wanted to show that it's not the tool that makes the drawing, it's the artist. The tool just helps the artists achieve whatever he or she is looking to achieve. That noted, I hope your class gets a kick out of the lesson. Thanks!
Wow matt, i came accross your videos on youtube and this hulk drawing is freakin amazing. I posted another comment on another video asking about purchasing some artwork from you for my son. Can yoyu please e-mail me to get more info from you on whether thats possible or not. Andrea_perez2@hotmail.com thank you
Hi Matthew! This is Jaxson Derr, the guy who you drew this Hulk picture for!! I was on the internet and your are showing my drawing - it is so awesome, thanks you. p.s. from Jaxson
What do you sugest to do when shading? I love to draw, but I think my drawings would look a lot better if they were shaded and shaded properly. Any tips?
The most important things to consider when shading is where the light source is, and the depth that you are trying to represent with the thick and thin lines.
I dont know how there's anything wrong with it. Purley amazing though since I feel like you make lines accindently then later on come back and make it into something.
Man... Where were the flaws? You had them covered up well if you did.
at the beginning I thought the hand was too far off, and maybe that might've thrown you off but then the perspective you made it in just brought it to life.
At least the foot not being drawn I thought might've ended up messy, till realizing you weren't going to insert it and it still fit perfectly.
Not 1 line out of place man... especially in toothpick. How hard is it to draw with it?
It's kind of a pain, drawing with a toothpick, and not something I really recommend. I just did it for the novelty of and to show that a person doesn't necessarily need to use a specific tool to draw.
hey Matt have you ever used a brush pen? you can get the line of a brush but you can use it like a pen, and you dont have to keep dipping it, if not id recomend it :)
You hope it looks ok? That looks awesome! I live in south carolina, and I want to go to your shop really bad! If I come around there, I'll stop and buy a comic! Thanks for the video matt.
Hey you know ho i'd like to see you draw? Captain America. I know your rendition of this hero would be amazing. What did you use to study muscle anatomy? I need a little more practice in that field and your muscle structure is amazing.
Thanks for the kind words and suggestion. I am self-taught as an artist, and basically picked up on what I know anatomy from observing people and other people's artwork.
Thanks, Curt! The toughest thing about drawing with a tootpick is how often I have to keep dipping the toothpick in the ink well. Those things weren't designed to hold ink well. Heh.
Those are action figures. Unfortunately, if I gave away product from the shop I would never make any money, so I can't give away the action figures. ;)
I"M GREEN WITH ENVY!!!! I enjoy when you draw Is that India ink? I like the technique, the toothpick/ink creates interesting line quality :O) What kind of paper are you using?
It's been years since I sent anything to either company, but I still plan on publishing a comic series in the hopefully near future. If I could get on at those publishers, that would be cool!
Matt, this is amazing! When you said that you weren't happy with certain parts, I twitched. I loved how you added the small tutorial in the begining and I think that peice of artwork is just breathtakingly superb. I wouldn't be suprised if you drew Superman with a chair, you draw great with anything.
One of my favourite, and one of the very best, TV artists died recently. He was Tony Hart. We don't really have a good sketch artist on British TV now, so maybe they should hire you.
Amazing stuff, Matt! I can't even fathom how you can pull that sort of detail straight out of your head like that, especially given only ONE shot at it. And then topping it all off by doing it with a toothpick. Jeeeeez...
