I really love how the traffic report lady jarringly broke into the song with her brassy, middle-aged white American woman prattle. Oh, wait... no -- I actually hated that. I hated that a lot.
the soaring (thanks for no overly done tremolo or quivering technique that I don't like) pureness of her voice and the what I think is called "lilting" renowned from the Irish is so profoundly done by Celia. I wish there was a video of her singing the whole song. Too bad it was so abruptly interrupted. Wow what a voice!! Thanks Celia!! Sing more for the world! Please put out a video of you singing this in a large echoy space!
@HomeworkSlipMan - very good singer - there is a townland in Ireland which is called Bovennett which means Bennett's Hut. As the crow flies its 25 km from Tommy Makems town of Keady, county Armagh.
@irishpride9999 I don't want to throw a damper on this, but I found on an old message board. . .Tommy Makem didn't write the song,.though he did bring it to the masses.

When asked if he wrote it, he replied that he had learned it from his mother Sarah, who had been singing it for many, many years. He didn't know whether Red is the Rose or Loch Lomond came first. Tommy and Liam Clancy did a beautiful version of it. All the best.
Beautiful voice. I nearly lunged at my screen to slap the lady who cut in on her at the end.

That was so pretty! I wish those assh*les could have let her finish, though.
Thanks for posting this, I had never heard her.
