Yogananda came from India and taught Kriya Yoga but knew extensively of the teachings of Christ and taught that the message is the same no matter the religion; you must live for God alone. God is one eternal infinite but comes in many guises and forms it just depends on how you are brought up to recieve Him. You are from Him (consciousness), just an extension like the rays of the sun, and through stilling your mind and letting go of your ego you can be free.

that is a beautiful recitation. yogananda is a legendary teacher and master and i thank him everyday for all the things he, sri yukteswar, lahiri mahasaya and all the kriya masters have brought to the world! i think he has a very powerful voice and am glad there are a few glimpses of him available of him here!

@QSnarf It is not just the sound quality. That is the Indian way of speaking in general: The Hindues shout even if the are close to your nose. They hadly modulate their voice. I have other recordings from Yogananda and it is the same.

Even when he is singing it sounds always so harsh and unpleasant. In a Wedding ceremony it would turn me completely off. That shows me, that he was not such a great man as people think he was. It should reflect in his voice.

I'm so thankful to have discovered this rare footage- something told me to search "Yogananda" here on youtube- and to actually hear his voice for the first time. I discovered his works about 3 years ago("Autobiography Of A Yogi"/"Man's Eternal Quest") and was simply BLOWN AWAY by what I was reading. The enigma is that an Indian spritural teacher came to this country in the early 20th century to teach true Christian principals to a "Christian" nation.

The guy getting married is Nirad Ranjan Chowdbury, father of Sri Nerode, famous Cornell professor. No, Yogananda did not approve of the wedding but some say he was trying to break up the couple because she was white. Also Nirad claims Yogananda was making sexual advances on his wife before and after the marriage, which for some reason, I believe to be true.

I think it was Dhirananda -- a disciple of Yogananda who later betrayed him. (Yogananda always remained his friend, though -- he even sent him of a box of mangoes every Christmas.) I don't know if he had any children.

oh.. one more thought. one saturday am when i was in mediation with sri nerode... after about 20 minutes my mind drifted for the first time. he could read my mind and immediatly broke our mediation with speech.. He knew my every thought as did vishnu the disciple of sivananda.

Agnus Nerode has been visiting me in my mediation and dream world. She appears as a young lady of beauty. She is radient. In my dream, i was so attracted to her as a godess... with awareness..i was aware that she could read each and every thought that i was having toward her in my dream state. i consciously ensured that my thoughts were on the highest purity. in real life,,, i knew that she knew my every thought as did B. Nerode.

at one time, i lived next door to Sri Nerode and Agnus. other times i drove each and every sat. am from 1 to 4 hours to be with them for private hatha yoga and meditation sessions in the 70's. when i moved back to minnesota, i would load up a van with my yoga students...Rev. CARL and others and meditate fasting in silence in the full lotus in the back of the van in preparation for their presence. we would drive 7 hours. learn from them for 4 hours and then drive back to minneapolis.

oh my good god. agnus and nerode have been my gurus since the early 70;s. i gave the memorial sermon at the university of chicago chapel when nerode left his body. They enlightened me with perpetual will call ecstasy. Agnus confirmed my enlightened state years latter of ecstasy and bliss in front of my daughter and her second cousin.

I had been a disciple of Sivananda since 62. He sent me to them in the early 70's. I was there neighbor.

It is hard to know who Yogananda is by watching this video. He is performing this wedding according to Vedic tradition and his talking with required intonation. One needs to read his work to get a glimpse of his mission. There you see his greatness, humility, and wisdom. No ordinary man could ever write what he wrote. Reading his words is a life-changing experience.

Jaylib. yes meditate and experience 4 ur self the self. here is another fact. one day i was working in the bush inda. i was tired when i arrived in this wilderness town. my hosts insited that i look over the town and gave me a driver who could not speak english and drove me around the town. we stopped outside of town.. and he motioned me to get out and explore.. i walked 12 feet and saw a sign.. here yogananda sat for three years teaching before he left for residency in the usa.

Trust me, he was the most humble person I ever met. Sri Nerode told me that clips of this ran on all the major movie screens in the us. For you young people, starting about 1930 to 1950, public movies houses ran the news of the world for 5-10 minutes before the feature. This was the only visual moving news available.
