Iv'e got a Disco 2 and i love it, but i'm always fixing her.......had a 300tdi and she was bullitt proof....go to my channel and watch (LANDROVER IN THE FLOOD) to see what she went through without a snorkel , and SURVIVED.
these disc have real issues with the head gaskets and valve cover gaskets. Also some of the things like all the bells and whistles have problems, down hill braking and auto air lift.. I have had three of them diff models and all three had these problems. I do love the drive..awesome nothing like it.
This is great - it shows people what these are all about . We dont even take them off road - but its nice to know when it gets tough - NO problem ..... To " snipofaprice " I just have to say weve had great luck with all 4 we have had - and the engines are strong and quiet . Plus - no SUV better for interior comfort - the leather is wonderful and these were built EXTREMELY well ! If you have a great mechanic - they are a treat to work on . My mechanic LOVES to service it - eBay always has parts
Also compared from alot of vehicles Ive worked on there pretty easy to work on yourself i recommend that you dont get one with the ACE system and make sure the head gasket has been replaced thats one majoe issue with the disco II's
She drives solid and the inside is quite compared to my Jeep. When you hit a bump or a pot hold its a solid hit and you just dont think much of it..I will never get rid of my disco..yes parts are pricey but it will do you good to do the work yourself learn about your rover and she will serve you well if you get one i get alot of parts at rockauto.com parts are extremely cheap even more than the major part outlets have fun buddy!
Hey buddy im i kentucky in the united states and ive always loved rovers and purchased my first 99 disco II last year with 256,987 hard miles for $2600 yes I had to give it a complete brake job rotors calipers pads a new alternator water pump and power steering pump all that was about $2000 and i did all labor and it has the orginal motor. But I will honeslty say I would take my disco all beat up and trail drivin regularly over anything brand new and i mean that honestly..
Free energy technology exists! But the Establishment doesn't want ppl to know this,Get a motor that works with the power of magnets only at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Let the revolution begin!
having owned this exact disco for 4 years i can say wholeheartedly that every "electronic techno bollocks"! is brilliant.
ace, airbags, climate, it all makes for a great vehicle that every time i drive it makes me proud and brings a smile to my face, yes ,things go wrong, but there is still no vehicle that i would rather drive ,and parts are now very sensible priced.
the disco 3 is great, but still is mostly main dealer only.
Why they have to pile in tons of electronic techno bollocks/toys I'll never know.It becomes nothing but a liability, should any of the systems fail in the middle of nowhere its going to be impossible to fix.Keep it simple, there is no need for any of this needless shite.
When I moved to Canada after 22 years of Landy ownership in the UK I had an '89 GM pickup and what a nightmare that was. Luckily I found a 2000 D2 in a used dealer and I was lucky as it doesnt have ACE or air suspension or even sunroofs to worry about, which must be rare out here because all the ones I had seen were all loaded.
I maintain it myself and I love it,BUT I buy all my parts online from the UK where they are much much cheaper, word to the wise....
this was the best land rover made by far well actually the 2004 disco was. It was the perfect car. You could look good pulling up to a black tie event and still be able to cruise through the jungle. Landrover failed with the lr3 because it lacked the true ability to offroad. THE D2 was the bridge between the d90 and the landrover. As soon as they put all the fancy computer shit in their cars in my mind have started to decline
i wish the td5 or the 300i was sold in the states :( I am running at 4.6 v8 in my 2004 disco and in my mind the td5 is far superior. I havent had any problems with my baby and she is going strong day after day.
I'm a LR fan. My 1st car was a Series I 1957. Since then I've had a few of them, from Series to Range Rover. Discos as matter of fact give a lot of problem with its electrical components and air suspension. Depends on what you want and the use you will give have to be very carefull. After a lot experience with them I decide to modify a Classic Ranger Rover 86 with the thing s that I needed, it was cheaper and easy to fix.
i am getting a 99 disco 2 for my 1st car. are they really good as this video shows? i need the truth because i have heard they are maintenance nightmares, they are always in the repair shop and i really cant have that
Hi, 1st u ave 2 accept that any 4x4 has more bits than a normal car. So you will have to mainten drive and any other off road tool. The TD5 engine is ace. I have never had a issue with this engine. KKeep her serviced and she will run good for you. The same is for everythign on the the Disco. If you buy one check that it has been service in the early days, at least 3-5 years by a land rover dealer. A land rover dealer will have actioned any warranty issues from the factory.
My Disco 2 Rocks! 144000 miles and it still runs like a champ! Off road adventures aplenty. Would like a lower gear ratio though for in city driving though.
I take it you got it used and it was not taken care of very well before you got it. Ive got 125K miles on my 2000 D2 with nothing other than standard maintainence and a set of head gaskets. They have to be taken care of. Sounds like you need a better mechanic to fix yours. If they cant fix the basics.... Maybe they need a new occupation.
yeh we got this video when it cam out and i was only tiny but i watched it all the time cuz i just loved the landrovers and the music and the adventure. we couldnt afford one then but now we have a TD5, though i doubt anyone cares. Its a shame i lost the video i would still happily watch it.

I just bought a Disco 2 and it is like riding on air, because it does! Tappets a little noisy?? on the V8, but it is ACE.

Respect your Landy nd she'll respect you. If you took good care of it and made sure she was running sweet you would have no problems.
I have a Discovery 2 51 Plate and cos I take care of it runs brilliantly....
Unlike the disposable Jeeps which give up the ghost a few years down the line....
